I'm 74 years old and I also had never heard him before I heard a commercial on TV playing Cry to me. I looked up the song and have been hooked on his music ever since. I told so many people about him and they said the same.Where was he when we were young. Now every popular singer is singing his songs. Amazing
I am 74 and first discovered him because when I saw the Stones in May 1964 they opened with Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, which was on their first album. I then read they did Cry To Me as they liked Solomon Burke (the Stones always credited their influences, unlike some others.)And have liked him ever since.
Solomon Burke was one of the greatest Soul singers of all time. He was also one of the most under-appreciated singers of all time. I loved the man and his music 🎶.
When oh when will we have performers of the calibre of Solomon Burke. What an absolute sublime joy to listen to him. All my worries of the day have vanished into the ether. His music, voice, expressions and ability to captivate the audience is beyond words

It's not just that he's a singer's singer and one of the great voices of the 20th century, because he could sing any song in any genre and make it true and real and personal. It's also because he was an artist who became a RocknRoll Hall of Famer, who was also a vertically integrated businessman who was an ordained minister and a licensed undertaker who'd see you from cradle to grave, and who left behind 19 children and 90 grandchildren. If that's not the definition of living large, I don't know what is. Ain't that a man? A mighty, mighty man.
