  • The #MicroTESE method is the name given to the method of obtaining sperm from testicular tissue with the help of a microscope in men with sperm production disorder #azoospermia. MicroTESE was first reported in 1999. We have been performing the MicroTESE operation in Turkey since 2002.
In the years before the Microtese method was announced, random and large pieces were taken from the testicular tissue to find #sperm. For this reason, it carried risks such as damage to the testicles and decreased male hormone in men. In addition, sperm finding rates and the number and quality of sperm obtained were low sperm count also affected the success of freezing and sperm storage methods. In the past, the spouses of azoospermic men were treated first and the use of fresh sperm was recommended. In cases where there was no sperm, the IVF treatments applied to the woman were wasted.
Obtaining tissue samples by examining the tubules in the testis with the aid of a microscope increased the rate of sperm finding compared to the old method. The removal of very small millimetric particles prevents less damage to the testis and the decrease of male hormone. Since there are more sperm in number compared to the old method, the rate of obtaining quality sperm has increased after sperm freezing and thawing. Frozen and thawed testicular sperm have increased the chance of success in IVF. In men, we first perform sperm research with microTESE and freeze and store sperm, in case they are found. Then we take their spouses to IVF treatment. Pregnancy and live birth rates increased after microTESE surgeries in #IVF applications made with frozen thawed testicular sperm.
