  • 15 amazing recent discoveries in the world of science and here they are from bionic contact lenses to reanimating dinosaur dna!

    7. New Human Species
Biologists all over the world were intrigued upon hearing the 2015 discovery of a new species of human, Homo Naledi, allowing for an ever clearer picture of our ancient ancestry. The findings were unveiled deep in an underground cave in South Africa and is considered one of the greatest collection of human remains ever unearthed. So far, it is known that this species of human grew to an average height of 5 feet and had a brain no larger than an orange. The way the bones in the South African cave were arranged suggests that these human ancestors ritualistically buried their dead, giving scientists a glimpse into our cultural past.
    6. Bionic Lens
While still in the testing stage, the founder of Ocumetics Technology Corp may have stumbled upon a revolutionary technology that could augment the way humans perceive the world. A new bionic contact lens will give wearers an ability to see the world with stronger than 20/20 vision. Some subjects, who have already tried the lens themselves, claim that they not only see better than ever before but have identified a unique spectrum of colors unfamiliar to the unaided eye. Is this perhaps the first step in the direction of a new era of superhumans?
    5. Harder Than Diamond
Scientists may have recently discovered a substance harder than diamond, Q-carbon. What gives diamonds their excellent hardness are the chemical bonds that hold them together. The carbon in diamonds is held together by incredibly tight chemical bonds at the microscopic level, giving diamonds their prominent hardness. By the manipulation of carbon atoms, scientists were able to augment their chemical bonds, producing a material that is potentially 60 times harder than diamond. While this substance is still being experimented on, it is a potential prospect for the future of cheap, efficient technologies.
    4. First Mammals
Researchers from the University of Edinburgh have discovered an ancient species of mammals that survived the notorious extinction of the dinosaurs over 65 million years ago. The reason this find is so significant is that it gives us a glimpse at how mammals began to rule the world previously dominated by their cold-blooded counterparts. The mammal is thought to have been a plant-eater closely resembling a modern beaver. Once the dinosaurs were eliminated these beaver-like creatures began to flourish, given that they were no longer victims of dinosaur predators. Because these little guys were able to withstand the destruction that wrecked havoc on the dinosaurs, an array of mammals, including our ancestors, were finally able to leave their mark on the world.
    3. Whale Gene Mapping
Gene mapping is starting to look less like a theoretical nicety and more like an applied science with this new aquatic discovery. Scientists have finally discovered why Bowhead Whales are able to live to 200 years old by remapping their entire genome. By comparing the genome of Bowhead Whales with the genome of other mammals with a less impressive lifespan, scientists were able to point out marked differences. Bowhead longevity is due to its genes’ effectiveness in repairing gene deterioration, which is the cause of cancer and other ailments known to cut human life short. By further studying this animal’s genes, scientists may finally be able to restore our own faulty genetic system, substantially lengthening our lives.
    2. Second Earth
NASA has recently confirmed their discovery of a possible second Earth. Kepler-452b orbits its sun in what scientists call the “Goldilocks Zone,” which is the habitable region in space, not too far or close to the sun, necessary for the possibility of life to flourish. The new planet appears to have a rocky surface as well as liquid water, which is another key ingredient for life to subsist. Although not much is known about if there is life beyond Earth, it makes sense to take notice of planets similar to our own.
    1. Animal Re-animation
Scientists have always been intrigued by the prospect of re-animating creatures that have been extinct for many years. While bringing a dinosaur back to life would be kind of cool, bringing a Wooly Mammoth back to life would be just as cool, and that is just what scientists are trying to do. Because Wooly Mammoths and Saber-Toothed Tigers have only been extinct for tens of thousands of years, unlike the millions of years dinosaurs have been extinct, intact DNA samples are much easier to find. Scientists believe it is possible to recreate these extinct beasts by cloning them with DNA and tissue samples, which have been found, over the years, preserved in ice.

If you've ever read anything from FES you would know it is incredibly well written with legitimate science.

In the USA, 20/20 vision is the same as 6/6 in Europe, which is average vision, not perfect vision! Plenty of people have better visual acuity than that. 20/20 means that the person can see at 20 feet what the average person can see at 20 feet (6 metres in Europe). Good visual acuity can be as high as 20/10 (6/3), which means that the person can see at 20 feet what the average person can see at 10 feet. Why do so many people make the mistake of thinking that average visual acuity is "perfect"? I blame Blondie!

as well as learning to read... Edenburg?... you mean Edinburgh?... and it's "wreaked havoc", not "wrecked havoc"... this is why the academics who attempt the standardization of current languages always end up compromising... okay, fine... you can spell "opossum" without the first 'O'... and yeah, sure, why not put an "S" on the end of raccoon when referring to multiple specimens of the species... what's next?... mooses?... mouses?... fishes?... ardvark?... granted, the English language is one of the most convoluted languages in existence, but it really isn't that difficult (says the guy who doesn't capitalize the first word of sentences and punctuates everything with ellipses when writing informally)... I'm just waiting for the day when "their" and "there" officially become accepted as interchangeable spellings for both words...

That with the plannets is easy to answer as example: can you see whats behind a wall? So in our case the wall is the sun. So there is even the possibility that there could be a plannet on the exact opposied of your earth(just as example). But we wouldn't be able to see it.

Not sure how excited I am for some of these developments... Discovering new things about our history is awesome, and discovering new planets even better. Better data storage devices and a new colour spectrum to explore? Hell yes! But I get the feeling that scientists mostly think in terms of 'why not?' instead of just 'why'. Just simply the rapid development of AI is ringing all the alarm bells. It would be great if all those intelligent people could stop and think about the possible consequences of their creations and discoveries. For example, if we were to live longer and have less terminal illnesses to worry about, how on earth are we going to control the growth of our population? We're already struggling to feed and house everyone as it is, with our corrupt and power hungry governments, which by the way might just start a *nuclear war*. And bringing back extinct creatures is cool and all, but how would they live? Where would we put them? How would we treat them? Did they not go extinct for a good reason? And most importantly, should we not be working on preserving the animals we already have before thinking about bringing back dinosaurs and woolly mammoths? Science is leaping ahead, leaving the rest of the world scrambling to keep up.

Diamonds are not really that strong. They can fracture like any crystal structure, but it is just more difficult. Crystals fracture when a force shifts the arrangement of the structure to where positive charges are moved with more positives, and negatives get moved with more negatives. This causes both sides of the site of movement to separate, resulting in a fracture.

Whats so hard to belive about finding a new mamal fossile?
What about #8? So they found evidence that at one point there has been fluid water on Mars, but he claims they found fluid water on Mars. Isnt there a big difference? Like in "at one point dinosaurs existed" and "dinosaurs exist".
Last but not least stupid: #1 Scientist have long before tried to bring back Tasmanian Devils that have ben extinct for only decades and did not manage. They did not even manage to bring a sheep back to fully functioning live. When they tried it became obvious that the whole concept of cloning is somewhat flawed and it became quite quiet around this field. Now some smart scientist who learned abuot the mostly intact DNA of iceage animals and thought "Well lets try thisone out for the media, perhaps we will get some money back ito this area of research".
Also some of this stuff dates back mor then a year, so if not big in the media yet it probably was not that amazing?

Abiogenesis is impossible for many reasons. One of which is that neither RNA nor DNA can be synthesized in the absence of enzymes, and enzymes cannot be synthesized in the absence of RNA and ribosomes. In the absence of enzymes, there is no chemical reaction that produces the sugar ribose, the "backbone" of RNA and DNA.

This is as much propaganda as reporting that a pencil falls when you drop it is propaganda for the theory of gravity...

The polymerase of the cell is irreducibly complex. It is a product of it's own translation. The polymerase machinery is comprised of components (proteins) which are coded as information in the DNA. The polymerase machinery is what is required to decode the information to make itself. Thus, both the polymerase machinery, the DNA, the genetic support systems of the cell, and in fact the entire cell had to have always existed together. This is astonishingly powerful evidence of both Intelligent Design and Special Creation.

diamond do not have chemical bonds...carbon is a element are held together bt electron bonds....

    • @MrMLaidlaw
      @MrMLaidlaw 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Actually everything is Chemical Bonds. Diamonds are a Network Covalent Bond
Everything in the world around us is made up of atoms, which are tiny pieces of matter. Different atoms stick together to form all kinds of things in the world. A chemical bond is formed when two or more atoms are attracted to each other and form a chemical compound.
      Covalent Bonds
A covalent bond is formed when two atoms with electronegativities share their electrons, rather than trading them as happens in ionic bonds. Two hydrogen atoms can share an electron to form the molecule H2, and they are joined by a single covalent bond.
A double covalent bond is found in ethylene (C2H4), because two sets of valence electrons are shared.
A triple covalent bond is seen in atomic nitrogen (N2).
      Dative Bond
A dative bond, also called a coordinate covalent bond, is created when one atom gives both electrons needed to form a single covalent bond.
This can be seen with ammonium (NH4+). Nitrogen contributes the two electrons needed to bond with hydrogen and therefore form the ammonium with a dative bond.
It can also be seen with hydronium (H3O+). In a water molecule, the oxygen atom gives a pair of electrons to create a dative bond with a hydrogen ion, thus forming the hydronium.
      Network Covalent Bond
Sometimes elements will form covalent bonds over and over in a material, repeating the same structure to form very large molecules. When this occurs, the bonds formed are described as a network covalent.
An example of this is seen in diamonds. Carbon bonds to itself, with each carbon atom forming four covalent bonds to four other carbon atoms. This forms one large molecule that is a diamond crystal.
Silicates, which are found in quartz, sand, and many other minerals, also bond together in network covalent bonds.
There are several different kinds of chemical bonds that can form; but, the similarity between all of them is the attraction of two atoms.
