@Bb King There are 3Br 3Ba houses on a ~9000 sqft lot available for ~$700k in the same city. Many 4Br houses in 30-min driving distance are under $650k. This house is smaller than those houses and won't sell for more than $700k. Of course, Mr Buffett being the owner & ex-resident may add some art value to it. But if someone else owned that exact house, it wouldn't sell for a buck more than $700k. Much less in the current scenario.
@Bb King I too was referring to Omaha. Mostly in neighbourhoods with zips between 68114 - 68137. Even 5-bed houses on 8000 - 9000 sqft plots don't touch a million.
That house probably has a tunnel to the White House and 50 armed invisible security guards along with an underground metro to nearest airport. Bet his neighbors never saw him. Lol
I’ve always been interested in expensive things, but when I finally reached the earning power that allowed me to have those things, I ended up not buying them because I knew I could have them any time I wanted. Which, in a weird way, made me realize that I didn’t want those things in the first place. I just wanted them because at the time they were unattainable. I instead focused my time on a hobby I liked when I was in high school. I get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from it. The money just frees me up to the other things. To explore. Money buys me time that I would’ve otherwise spent working as a cubicle zombie.

For someone worth BILLIONS this is a shack. And for a 6000 sq ft home valued at 652k it's also very cheap ( 100$/sq ft) comparing to where I live( Florida).
Hi Zag depends on which part of Florida. The panhandle yeah. North Florida yeah. Even small towns and smaller cities in central Florida...but south Florida the cheap houses, 652k isn’t cheap btw, but the cheaper houses are usually in the roughest neighborhoods. ~Miami native (not Miami Beach or Hialeah or wherever the immigrants and tourists pretend is Miami)
True I’ll be rich not sure about a billion dollar rich. But I would just like a small modernized home. Nothing huge where there is more maintenance and dust accumulating 🤮
many people live in 600k houses it is not that uncommon. sure 600k is much when you are an uneducated worker, but managers, doctors, lawyers, judges, engineers etc. often earn that much so they can afford these kind of houses (and think about their wife giving a second income)
You make an excellent case! . I’ll add 1 more point… Seeing my monthly dividend income grow is EXTREMELY motivating to continue investing . Buying growth makes sense intellectually, but during a bear market, watching my growth portfolio shrink…the motivation isn’t as high as it is for dividend investing. A lot of this is psychological!
It's crucial to have a well-thought-out strategy and not make impulsive moves based on short-term market fluctuations. Patience and a long-term perspective are key. You should consider a market expert to guide you.
that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+
People saying this isn't modest don't understand proportions. He is worth over 80 billion, 80,000,000,000/650,000. This house represents .00000815 of his wealth your broke ass who works at mcdonalds would think this is expensive because you are most likely worth less than the house.
456inthemix Buffet is just a rare breed that hates spending money. His kids grew up not knowing they were rich. Not because of him trying to hid the greed of money from his kids, but just because they don't spend money. Nothing wrong with "showing off" I mean if you can afford a big house, why not? Lots of perks having one. You can have your own gym, Library, game room, pool, movie theater and so on in the house. Depends if you want that or not. And if they're interested in cars and have the money, how is buying a nice car "showing off?" How is any of it showing off? They worked hard for their money and can buy whatever they want with it. Buffet just hordes his money, which nothing wrong with that either.
I appreciate his ability to stay humble to his beginnings. Can he afford the most expensive house money can buy... yes, but he obviously has his priorities right if he is willing to be content with what he has. I think we could all learn a lesson from WB.
I know many people who have and others that wish they could. California should split in half, North and South, people have tried to get this to vote. The South comes up with awful government ideas that ruin things for everyone. The weather is nice enough that rich fools put up with it while the poor are harmed by the ideas of the wealthy created to "help" them. The poor of Southern California have been helped right out of many rights and into many expensive rental agreements that they slave to pay for.
He's probably always outside and has all his stuff registered to that address. To move would complicate things which would take focus away of what he wants to do. Provide capital to businesses that he thinks would work. He obviously loves what he does which is why at 90 he looks extremely healthy compared to others that age.
Yep, or how he says he wont give his kids any $ to teach them to make their own way in life... BUT his daughter Suzie manages his charity & makes a good living off that...
I think they're largely investments as well. Plus he needs the jet to get around to the various meetings, talks and other events. Most executives have access to a company aircraft.
Because he isn't living in a modest house because he wants to 'show' how down to earth he is. He lives in it because he loves it. Doesn't mean he cant have private jets.
@Green Giant $280,000 USD is quite cheap, an average family could afford to buy it if it were priced like that today. I live in Vancouver, that house would be 10 million here. We need those house prices back 😭
FUN FACT: Every billionaire is frugal.... Warren Buffett is the epitome of frugal and I respect this. There is no reason for you have a home that is much bigger than you need... FOR WHAT???!!!
Yeah that’s why I told my parents I don’t want big house because it means the maintenance is going cost like you said when you work 7 days a week you just need a place you can sleep no fancy library or 2 kitchens. Of course it would be nice house but the monthly bills are high and you don’t know when you are going die anyways so
After selling a couple of houses in 2020, I'm hoping for a housing crisis in order to buy cheaply. I've been thinking about buying stocks as a backup plan. What are your recommendations for the best time to buy? On the one hand, I keep reading about traders making over $500k per week. On the other hand, I keep hearing that the market has gotten out of hand and is in the midst of a dead cat bounce. What causes this to happen?
Most people are unable to handle a fall since they are accustomed to bull markets, but if you know where to look and how to get around, you can profit handsomely. It depends on your entry and exit strategy.
The fact that the US stock market had been on its longest bull run ever makes the widespread worry and enthusiasm understandable given that we are not used to such unstable markets. He was successful but that doesn't mean you also will if you follow all his words. When it comes down to it, luck is what matters most in becoming as successful as Buffett. With this said, it's better to take into consideration your own situation before selling your business. Profits vary and present success may only be temporary.
Buffet is lucky to have found a home where he finds peace and contentment on his first purchase. That's very rare for anybody and especially for a billionaire.
Imagine how rich in memories that house must be, if he's lived there all these decades. Certainly something that Buffett can buy many times over, but that’s not an average home. That’s a nice estate in an upper middle to upper class neighborhood in Omaha. Executives, upper managers, successful professionals and business owners are probably his neighbors. On top of the appreciation, he’s never going to have the problem of having a multimillion dollar mansion sitting in the market unsold for years if he or heirs ever decide to sell it.
My grandparents live in a little smaller house 2 houses down on the same street, my mom would always drive me to my grandparents house on summer break and it wasn't until a few years ago that I learned Warren Buffett lived so close.
Why is a "driveway" with a "gate" leading to a sidewalk and no access to the road? It has grass between the road and the sidewalk. Are his vehicles supposed to drive over the grass to get out on the road?
I would do the same even if I was a millionair. I don't need no fancy house for show. I just need a small home where I feel comfortable and happy in. This guy is living life right. Much respect.
I still find it hard to believe that house is $650k. For that good quality material and perfect lawn. Got to be close to a mil. But then I am in LA. hahaha
This is why he’s still wealthy. I noticed people with money don’t always drive the nicest cars and live in the biggest houses. That’s why you stay rich.
The man has enough money to buy 11x Winter Palace's and still remain a billionaire, while he instead decides to live in that house. I don't know why, but I quite like that.
This is why I like Buffett. Even if I was very wealthy, my primary residence would be my parents old house, the one I grew up in. That is where I would want to live. A very loving home it was...

Regular, it is in New York.
CSGO Tips and Tricks and San Diego
many people live in 600k houses it is not that uncommon. sure 600k is much when you are an uneducated worker, but managers, doctors, lawyers, judges, engineers etc. often earn that much so they can afford these kind of houses (and think about their wife giving a second income)
Not in London. The average home costs £600k
iDiractor you sound like a fool and are incredibly disconnected. I guess a teacher is an "uneducated" worker. Smh

Actually warren buffet comes from new money. Rich kids I Beverly Hills type of places usually have their businesses handed down to them
KNO because that where they can make their money with now a days

Ahh 1958 when houses were affordable and prices werent inflated.
@Green Giant that is affordable unless you're poor
@Green Giant it is. A house of that size, depending on the area, would cost around $700k to $1million in California
@Green Giant well if the house was in toronto, vancouver, san fransisco the cost would be 4.5 million.
@Green Giant $280,000 USD is quite cheap, an average family could afford to buy it if it were priced like that today. I live in Vancouver, that house would be 10 million here. We need those house prices back 😭

As you pointed out, it wasn't tough for me to earn over $780k in the last 10 months, so there are chances if you know where to go.
