Very nice video. I got led here by doing a search on the Edison A-150 diamond disc machine, which is the one I have. I do this from time to time, and I discovered your very nice video on Diamond Disc records, and your
reccomendation on that terrific book. Regarding the cylinders, I have been told that the numeral after the dots is the master number, and that each master was good for about 50 thousand cylinders. I have seen very high numbers on cylinders that show up in everyone's collection, like Preacher and the Bear, and The Arkansas Traveler, and most of the Cal Stewart cylinders, which are known to have been huge sellers. I have subscribed and await the growth of your channel.

@@MarkAtnip Great! If you ever get a chance, could you do a video explaining the basics of catalog numbers, matrix numbers, and take numbers? When i first learned that it really helped me understand the technical details of recording. I think it would benefit many. Thanks!

Good info! I never knew this. After looking at one of my later (around 1911 or so) 2-minute gold moulded records, it looks like Edison used the same dot system. I wonder what cylinder he started doing this on?

Great Info, do you know if there is some images of plants, or documents on the manufacturing or replication method of the Edison Cylinders? On the records is well documented, and with slight variations is the same since Berilner discs. Even on some weird formats like Tefifon's tapes there is such information.

Were Blue Amberols all dubbed from Diamond disc records?

Greetings! The early 1912-1914 issues were not dubbed from Diamond Discs. Cylinders from the popular series with numbers below (roughly) 2520 are not usually disc dubs. (the closer to 2520 you get, the greater the possibility of a dub) 78rpm.com lists take numbers for cylinders under 2520 in their auctions. Higher numbers are presumed to be dubs. The UCSB cylinder archive lists the disc source for dubbed Blue Amberols.
