Ok so lets get this straight! Karl is honest and real...and he has a very simplified view of life. But I have been listening to karls stuff for years and he is a very savie and I think intelligent in a real way. He is a radio producer and editor for a start an involved and diverse job which I gather he has won awards for. Also he promotes himself and his projects and understands what the public want. So I think even though wee might like to see him as a simple guy..he is real much more than that.
You get so much more watching Karl talking than simply listening to Karl talking. He seems so much more animated and engaging here. It's also one of the few times that he's on radio/tv without Ricky or Steve about
He's so genuine. Even in this video he came out with some bogus "fact" which he probably just misunderstood to begin with, and he doesn't mind calling other countries shit. Everyone should aspire to be so unpretentious. He's also right about his stay being shit terrible. If they only got him to moan about the wonders themselves, the series would only have 2 episodes.
Richard KNOWS it's not an act, he used to work at XFM with him, he's simply playing devil's advocate to give him a chance to answer the skeptics directly.
Karl is the antithesis of a little Englander. He is very amicable, accepting of other cultures, tries to understand. He has no superiority complex like most little Englanders.
Karl is smarter than us all... he's done pretty well for someone who is supposed to be a dumb manc. Playing to your strengths is a sign of real self knowledge and skill...
this interview is so refreshing because Richard Bacon treats him like a regular bloke, he doesn't get treated like an idiot. Ricky and Steve are always takin the piss, It's nice to see him just have a regular conversation where he doesn't have to be ridiculed ya kno
@grape362 The continents drift on top of the mantle of the earth, and over the years the relative position of everywhere changes all the time. I don't know if what he said is accurate, but things do move over the earth over time.
Imagine if Karl were Prime Minister...oh it'd be amazing! Everyone would actually start paying attention to politics...imagine PM's Question Time - it'd be the best thing ever. Seriously.
@moewishaw its new episodes of the show called an idiot abroad and its more or less the same idea, sending karl to locations/ to do things other people would enjoy but throwing in some unexpected things
Karl's quoted for saying, "I'm a grown man. 'You think I go home & cry to me mum, 'Ooh, Ricky & Steve won't stop picking on me.' No. I'm not a child, you know."
I love the episode in India, that bit where he gets taken into a courtyard and everyone starts flinging coloured powders into the air (and on Karl) and dancing with him is a genuinely beautiful moment, not least because Karl cracks a bloody smile for once :)
Rick, Steve, and Karl need to do a live, sort of three-man-show, tour. Ricky is a great stand-up ( and Steve I understand is doing a stand-up tour sonn) but those three live would be fried gold.
I bet he's enjoying the break from Ricky constantly laughing at everything he says. looks like he's actually happy getting to talk without Ricky or Steve there
I believe it's the cause, because if you listen to Karl talk about his father he says if you don't get on with Karl, you won't get on with his pop because he's "just an older version" of Karl. Personalities are EXACTLY the same apparently.
A 5 bedroom house in london, you're looking at a minimum of a 800k house. Its prob more likely a 1 or 2mil house. When ricky met him in XFM he had a 2 bedroom flat and he had a dodgy washing machine and boiler. Pilkington would never have made it without Ricky. He got shoved into peoples faces for them to see how incredible Karl is. Yes, Karl stands his own because he is amazing and probably the funniest man on the planet. But he does owe it all to karl. Its just mates having fun, not bullying.
@XiaoPow you're right..but looking at it logically... he is definitely specialized in deadbeat comedy and is "playing along" by which it means he is actually a character they wanna make money out of... n it's not a scripted character.
Aajr95 it's the third in the series. The short way around, I think. Warwick is going in a basket on the front of a bike Karl's going to peddle. I think it's following the route of Marco Pollo from Italy to China.
@XiaoPow I've met him once and he seemed the same as on The Ricky Gervais show, the other guy is right there are loads of people like him in manchester the only difference is that they are agressive with their views and Karl is'nt.
If he was actually bullying him, I;d agree. Ricky isn't saying "yes I am bullying him, but he's rich so who cares" - he's saying he isn't bullying him. They're best friends, Karl has said so before, their relationship is based on friendly 'abuse', if you like.
Yes he is, ricky even said in one interview about idiot abroad making him a million pounds, and karl just smiled in agreement, and that might have only been one series!

best comment ever mate !
Michael Mulqueen I don't think it's Karl that knows what the public want it's Ricky and Steve
he's more intelligent than you, mate. I know you don't think he is, so it gives me great pleasure to inform you of that
lol you can't even spell "savvy"
Won a silver at the Sonys if I remember correctly. Mentioned in the xfm shows
karl has been a legend since 2001. real fans know that
How you doing
hes REAL
I reckon Karl is a quiet genius
His brain certainly is, it's just his mouth fucking him up
I hate how condescending people are to Karl. They automatically assume they're above him.
Most are far far from above him in life
Didn't think this Bacon fella was bad in that regard.
You automatically assume you’re above him, mate, if anyone does…
Sacha Baren Cohen has made a career doing this.
especially ricky
You get so much more watching Karl talking than simply listening to Karl talking. He seems so much more animated and engaging here.
It's also one of the few times that he's on radio/tv without Ricky or Steve about
Has anyone activated the captions? OMFG it's brilliant
haha. that does make it a million times funnier
haha - wow, good call!
Louie Cafarella thank you
Welcome 😜
+Louie Cafarella " As a blonde bought he said Joe goes there "

Karl's a very perceptive bloke. His comment about knowledge getting in the way is spot on. He's way over the head of the Bacon idiot.
lmfao omg i love this man so much, the way he pronounces "its not a highlight of my life, someone shouting out "is that the idiot""
Thanks for uploading this - haven't seen this before
Karl is too cute for words. An Idiot Abroad really is the greatest practical joke ever pulled.
Richard KNOWS it's not an act, he used to work at XFM with him, he's simply playing devil's advocate to give him a chance to answer the skeptics directly.
Karl is the antithesis of a little Englander. He is very amicable, accepting of other cultures, tries to understand. He has no superiority complex like most little Englanders.
have you even listened to the radio show? he shits all over other cultures all the time. "little asian fella"
Not really
Love the London/New York comparison. So true😂👏
Karl is smarter than us all... he's done pretty well for someone who is supposed to be a dumb manc.
Playing to your strengths is a sign of real self knowledge and skill...
Ricky Gervais: "Do you think you bully Karl?" Yes. He's my best mate with his own show and a 5 bedroom house London. Who else wants to be bullied?
@LJBanc he's a good dancer, he used to do body popping and breakdancing when he was younger
definately got to meet karl pilkington steve and rick, i love them all , there so funny
I kinda feel sorry for Karl that he almost had a break down. I wish him all the best. He makes me laugh sooooo much :)
great interview, soo chilled.
"I can't call Ricky because he will be 'this is brilliant. Kar's having a breakdown."
So funny.
i really wish karl reaised how much WE ALL LOVE HIM because we really do and his the most amazing person on this this planet
He's so down to earth!
Karl was Richard’s boss at XFM in the late 90’s.
8:29 Karl bobbing his head to the travel news music
He’s the best natural comedian around.
I could watch him all day.
I do 😂😂😂
'This is brilliant! He's having a breakdown.' 😂
this interview is so refreshing because Richard Bacon treats him like a regular bloke, he doesn't get treated like an idiot. Ricky and Steve are always takin the piss, It's nice to see him just have a regular conversation where he doesn't have to be ridiculed ya kno
@grape362 The continents drift on top of the mantle of the earth, and over the years the relative position of everywhere changes all the time. I don't know if what he said is accurate, but things do move over the earth over time.
it's weird not hearing Ricky's laugh every 5 mins haha
a fire that didn't happen, a wife that didn't exist and a cat that didn't look happy
Oh so the blokes were ghosts
"weve come miles, wh wh whats this?!"
Im sooo glad i got the traffic report for london....saved me some time in america! ^_^
I love how he staarts bobbing his head when the music comes out at 8:40.
Imagine if Karl were Prime Minister...oh it'd be amazing! Everyone would actually start paying attention to politics...imagine PM's Question Time - it'd be the best thing ever. Seriously.
this was covered in the podcasts. and it really wouldn't
yep, nothing but pamphlets and warning signs lol
@@gjo1832 How?
2:45 Back on the chang again lol
@moewishaw its new episodes of the show called an idiot abroad and its more or less the same idea, sending karl to locations/ to do things other people would enjoy but throwing in some unexpected things
Is Bacon still on the Charlie ???
Excellent. More Karl on screens please. 👏🍊
haha..
I love karl so much, what's he doing next? better be something in the works!
remember when this was was youtube peak quality?
Karl is actually smart he just words his sentences wrong
@erica3590 Care to post a link to that interview?
Karl's quoted for saying, "I'm a grown man. 'You think I go home & cry to me mum, 'Ooh, Ricky & Steve won't stop picking on me.' No. I'm not a child, you know."
karl's head bop to the outro music, lol
I absolutely agree. Letting Karl talk, not interrupting him, no shouting, just smoooooth. Very likable host.
The drugs he took were likeable
graham is such a good actor
***** lol bollocks
How he keeps in character is amazing.
He’s doing theater work now.
@beachie37 yeh but it's a different premise entirely, the new series is nothing like an idiot abroad.
I love the episode in India, that bit where he gets taken into a courtyard and everyone starts flinging coloured powders into the air (and on Karl) and dancing with him is a genuinely beautiful moment, not least because Karl cracks a bloody smile for once :)

I love that his calling the head of production at Sky for that show and his telling him it is going to be ok and to take one day at a time haha.
Its easy for him While he's sat in an office with a Frappuccino 😆
Karl is awesome he is the best thing to happen to the other two!
Best. Video. Description. Ever.
love him so much :P
@honestom23 you live in sudbury?? where bouts?
I bet he's enjoying the break from Ricky constantly laughing at everything he says. looks like he's actually happy getting to talk without Ricky or Steve there
Sad they're all completely separate now - I don't think Karl and Ricky talk at all anymore after he left Derek.
I do, too. Why did your comment get removed...?
karl body pops like a boss during the travel news..
I don't now what Karl is worth but he is worth every penny, unlike some Premier League footballers
@grape362
He's right..sort of.
an idiot abroad 2 is karl and warwick davis going on adventures! this is going to be fucking amazing!!!
His head looks particularly round with headphones on.
I believe it's the cause, because if you listen to Karl talk about his father he says if you don't get on with Karl, you won't get on with his pop because he's "just an older version" of Karl. Personalities are EXACTLY the same apparently.

8:20 A head rounder than the microphone put in front of it.
8:30 Karl enjoying the traffic news jingle.
1. He's a full grown adult.
2. makes me* cry.
whats that karl? you'll never do another series?
I'm not, that's a direct quote from Ricky Gervais' twitter?
Watch Derek he plays the part of a care taker
@XiaoPow exactly.
"what's this... we've come miles, WHAT'S THIS!?"
Aajr95 it's the third in the series. The short way around, I think. Warwick is going in a basket on the front of a bike Karl's going to peddle. I think it's following the route of Marco Pollo from Italy to China.
An idiot abroad 2 coming soon.. should be good
I didnt call ricky because he would think brilliant he's having a breakdown 😆 😂
@bobjimjones u dont , you only listened to old stuff on here
perfectly round.
the only video on youtube with 0 thumbs down
True, but money doesn't always equal happiness
i think hes a honey!! genuine and honest!! i love him!!
He said he didn't call his girlfriend much cause it annoyed him that she kept saying he was lucky to travel the world😂😂😂😂😂

Hahaha I love Richard Bacon's show
1 person is Mr K Dilkington
Aliens: "What's this!? We've come miles..." HAHA XD Not lightyears then?
@XiaoPow I've met him once and he seemed the same as on The Ricky Gervais show, the other guy is right there are loads of people like him in manchester the only difference is that they are agressive with their views and Karl is'nt.
awwwwwwh! :c
"Is that the idiot!"
Poor Karl!
Very good interviewer, seen some rubbish interviewers interviewing Karl in the past.....
Karl did become the Palin
If he was actually bullying him, I;d agree. Ricky isn't saying "yes I am bullying him, but he's rich so who cares" - he's saying he isn't bullying him. They're best friends, Karl has said so before, their relationship is based on friendly 'abuse', if you like.
Yes he is, ricky even said in one interview about idiot abroad making him a million pounds, and karl just smiled in agreement, and that might have only been one series!
"the pyramids shifted five miles" head like a fucking orange
"im an idiot...its not good."
He definitely is a millionaire now.
I guess you're right, but I can't help but think that constantly calling him an idiot isn't doing him any favours.
