Yes, I agree with you there, that was the only reason I came to your show for the first time. After the first time there this became my favorite Airshow to go to and the announcer in this video is my favorite as he doesn’t try to talk over the aircraft flying past like most do. The last couple of years I was there, 2018 & 2019 you started playing the music way too loud. The sound of those old engines is the only music people come there to hear. I love those old warbirds, but I have to admit, I missed seeing Rob Holland there the past few years I was there. Hopefully next year you will get back to your Airshows they way they were. I would love to travel back there again to my favorite location for an Airshow. It’s well worth the trip from Virginia.

Sure wish I got to see the Mossie fly more often, non at Oshkosh this year. They did fly a Spitfire and Hurricane yesterday, but they were hard to see through all the smoke left over from the Aero Shell Team before them.
Beautiful plane, bomber, night fighter, fighter bomber, strike fighter, photo reconnaissance plane and so much more, it could fight against Luftwaffe single engine fighters as a fighter bomber, fly to Poland for photo reconnaissance, drop a 4,000 lb bomb on Berlin, sink ships and submarines shoot down V 1 flying bombs or hit small difficult targets. The most versatile plane of the war and the USAAF used them as well as several other British planes even if they do not like to admit it.
Saw that film in 1965 in Christchurch NZ and in the foyer they had an engine from the actual 633 squadron. This plane flew over our town here in NZ before heading off shore and I remembered the sound of those Merlin's strait away before it came into view. There has been another one rebuilt and flying since this one was done.

We stopped there in July of 2017. Some aircraft were off on an air show. But the place truly is amazing. Blue sky day with a few clouds. Got some great images of Memphis Belle as they were testing the engines.
I've seen her up close at the Military Aviation Museum in Va Beach..I'd definitely recommend a trip down there. Mr Yagen has an extraordinary collection!
I remember the stories my grandfather told me... The icy feeling of sheer terror when one of these came down strafing their lines... Silence and all of a sudden they were on you and gone just as quickly. A terrible machine if you happen to be the target, he highly respected the Mosquito and considered it even deadlier than the Spitfire, both worthy nightmares.
Good recall. I remember a similar case of a German infantryman's story, in the 1960's. About after the D-day landings. He said if we heard a familiar but distant sound, Looking up, and seeing a small plane at great height, circling round. We knew, it had to be a Mosquito; After dashing for cover, it swept down at great speed and straffed us with machine gun bullets.

B17G cruised at 180mph, the Mossie at 350mph, the managed 2 sorties a day to Berlin. ie. 8000lb = 2 Cookies and did not suffer the horrendous losses that the B17's did.
Actually wilbur, mosquitos had a really good survival rate, thats why they didn't have to build them by the tens of thousands like the B-17s and B-24s that were shot down in huge numbers. There Boscombe Down test documents that have fully loaded mosquitos doing a bit more than 400 mph. These of course have the 2-stage/2-speed superchargers. When they put merlin 61 engines in a photo recon mosquito (mark 8) it reached 436 mph.
What a spectacular aircraft. The wooden wonder flies again. Although I've not compared the two, I do wonder how the Mosquito sized up to the P38 Lighting in that era. If someone has done this research, I would be interested to know (outside of the obvious - metal vs wood).

The Mosquito was faster until the advent of the P-38 L. The climate made the P-38 the best plane for use in the Pacific, but the Mosquito was the best plane to use in Europe.

As a type, this IS one of those planes.

Sorry Wilbur but you've got that wrong. It was as in the commentary says built in New Zealand. At Avspecs workshop, Ardmore Airfield, Auckland, New Zealand to be precise. Also FYI the fuselage for the Canadian restoration was also built at the same place. There is also another Mosquito on the way from Avspecs. NZ has the moulds for the building of the fuselage - no-one else does. The moulds were built from copies of the original plans. Not sure where the engines came from except they were originally Spitfire engines from Australia( I think).

The only thing original to the plane is the data tag !!!! Hardly a restoration !!! Engines did come from Aussie land !!! Origin unknown as both RR and Packard engines were shipped to Aussie land !!! My original statement is correct !!! This plane is no more a restoration than the Me 262's built by the Me262 project In Everett Wash .!!!!!!! It is what it is !!!!
I was not aware that you were referring to the original KA111 - not clear in what you wrote unless I read it wrong. I thought your comment was regarding the commentary at the airshow and I was responding in that vein. I think that there was more than just the data tag that was original but I'm not sure. Regardless, you'd have to agree that it is a magnificent aircraft and the workmanship is superb. I had the privilege of seeing it up close including inside the cockpit here in NZ and the sound of those twin Merlins is something to behold especially when it passes directly overhead about 200 feet up at around 300mph. That was in Tauranga, NZ 19-12-2012 if my memory serves me correct. My videos are on another computer so can't confirm that date.

The Mosquito certainly achieved very much, far more than any US plane, Hap Arnold took plans of the Mosquito to USA hoping to get it made there under licence but no US manufacturer could understand it, Hap Arnold also gave orders that USAAF pilots in the P 38 should not fly alongside Mosquitos
@@MrDaiseymay it "failed" in that the extreme numbers of B-17s and B-24s eliminated the requirement for constructing and utilizing more of them. Had there been less American aluminum present there could have been far more Mosquitoes in the sky, doing the same job better, faster, and with far fewer crew losses. It didn't fail in what it did do, it failed in not doing all that it could have done.

If you are into aviation photography, Geneseo has excellent lighting, it's probably as good as Oshkosh only a nicer setting.

how come there is only 5 exhaust ports each side the Merlin is a V12 so 6 each side or have I missed something.
