It looks sooooo good and i maybe even threw my hands in the air and cheered out loud to see that you didnt give up on it. There is totally a time to frog stuff that isnt working and many lessons to be learned whether the project works out or not, but this sweater was not that time. Probably when we are the most upset by the imperfections in our work is when we should do what we need to and rally our tribes of other makers to consider whats going on and how to keep it going. The projects that are easy to give up , yep, go ahead and scrap them. But the ones that break our hearts and we still just cant stop thinking about deserve a second chance and second opinions because they might not have gone that wrong after all. Thanks for sharing your journey and i bet i am not the only one that cant wait to see it done! Way to go!
I was actually thinking in the last episode when you said more than 10-12 inches of ease was “too much” that Caitlin Hunter’s designs are extremely popular and they regularly have 13” of ease! Lol 😆
I love an oversized fit so much that I am half way through pregnancy and still have regular clothes that fit (not pants but other garments) and I am almost positive I'll make it through the winter because of how large my winter jacket was on me to begin with hahaha I had no idea that my slouchy oversize comfort preference would come in so handy lol. My point being that yes for sure it's all about you making it work and perspective. Of course amazing you've solidified learnings for other garments you wanna make with very specific fit so it's turning out to be a great experience and I'm do glad that this has been turned around for you :) love the colors and I don't think they wash you out at all :) what a win!
Btw I'm also very passionate in general so I get your emotion through this and last episode, I'm restarting to learn knitting for my upcoming baby and I am subscribing so I can learn more stuff! Loving the channel

I think that sweater fits great for an oversize. I agree that the arm holes are large. What if you played with a gusseted type of closure before you pick up the sleeves. A mini V shape if you can imagine that. Hem length is super cute. Colors are so perfect for you. Thnx for sharing!
Yes, I agree, or a little diamond shape, many of the Gansey style sweaters that are knitted in the round and can be boxy, they have a little diamond shaped gusset at the underarm, allowing a greater range of movement with less bulk around the top of the arm, the sleeves don't have to be quite as wide.
Your “ramblings” are most helpful. I just knit my first sweater vest for my husband. I want to tackle a Ranunculas for myself next. Your videos have taught me a lot about garment construction and how it fits. Thanks for sharing your thought process. ❤
Girl! The sweater looks great! You've got to finish it. And I know you said something last time about the color but the color is fine. Balance it out with some dark pants since your hair is dark and it will look perfect. ❤
Taylor, I almost never knit to gauge, and if I do, I often have to change the sleeve length or shoulder depth because I'm slim with wide shoulders, and I want to knit the pattern with the yarn combo I want to knit it with, 🤣. You figured it out, you're doing great, and I can't wait to see the finished stripe hype on you!

Excellent self insight, Taylor. When I get to that level of frustration with a project I usually make myself set it down for a day or two. It allows me some perspective. Glad you found your way🙌🏼
I can’t wait to see the finished result! I think it looks great so far. Intentionally boxy, oversized… FASHION!! So many patterns at the moment are oversized and it took me a while to adjust to the idea. I’m a 38” chest and a 48” sweater sounded preposterous… but with the right construction and shaping it’s a vibe! Keep us posted 😊
I love your striped sweater. It looks great on you. A little oversized still is a great sweater. Just a different look than what you are probably used to which still looks fantastic in my opinion. 🧶❣️
Oh I love the colors & look of this sweater so much 😍 also: its so great to see you are struggling & doubting during the making too cause as a beginning sweater knitter & crocheter I seem to be doing that loads (and will also purchase 6 patterns in an hour out of frustration & cuteness seeking too oops 😬😂) so its great to know that Im not the only one but also that you can work through it & sometimes giving up isn't nescessary. I was one of the lucky test knitters for Stripe Hype and love this pattern. It was a perfect DK stashbuster and wore mine tonight to an outdoor event. It was perfect for a Fall evening!
My husband is also 6'5" and slim, and I just want to share discovering the brand American Tall was revolutionary for his closet. He finally has shirts and sweaters with sleeves that reach his hands and every pair of pants has a 36" inseam option.

This podcast came at just the right time for me as I want to start knitting Andrea Mowray’s Weekender sweater pattern that calls for 10” of positive ease. My quandary is choosing a size because 10” seems really big. I am 5’1””, not slender & worry about looking “dumpy” with that much ease. Your solution of trying on your husband’s sweater is a great idea, I will do the same. Thanks, Taylor for your great advice. Hope you love your finished project ❤

You inspired me! A couple years ago I frogged the Gift of Promise Sweater because when I picked it back up to finish the sleeves, I noticed it was cropped. And cropped is not appropriate for a 67 year old women. But as I was entering yarn into the ravelry database after our move, I ran across this (I hadn't actually done the frogging), and it is lovely. And I am very petite (5"2", wear a S or XS). I am going to finish this and I am going to wear it, darn it!
Yay, I'm so glad you feel back in love with your sweater and feel motivated to keep on knitting instead of ripping it back. It was so much work... In your previous episode, I kept thinking "it's not that bad, really". The rowing out and different gauge knitting flat or in the round will not show as much as one thinks, especially in a striped sweater. Besides, it's hand knitted, right? If you want to look like machine knitted, go to the store. "Mistakes" tell a story, and give personality to a hand made garment, just embrace them.😊
I think the sweater looks great. I have not yet been brave enough to try one of Kutovakika's designs because of the contiguous construction, so I consider you courageous! It is always a bit more daunting knitting something in a new way (or construction). Well done for picking it up again.
I cast on this same sweater in the same yarn after I saw your first post about it but in different colors. I freaked out when you said it wasn't working, so I took mine out and measured to an oversized sweater I own and it was dead on. I've kept going and although it isn't completely done it seems to be turning out. Keep going! I bet you end up loving it.
I'm glad you decided to go with it, it will be beautiful once it is finished. I'm 5ft 2" and a 34" bust, one of my favourite sweaters is a black polo neck sweater with turned up cuffs and about the same length as your sweater - it hits the top of the pockets of my jeans. The bust on that sweater is about 40" and I can wear layers underneath easily, but I can also wear my winter coat on top. I'm trying to work out the size to make a replacement for when it finally falls to bits!

Really appreciated your comment toward the end where you talked about having a project that you feel will just be "a win" and then being disappointed when it causes hiccups. I'm far from a monogamous knitter because I always have to have my hands busy and sometimes I am a bear of very little brain. This means I usually have at least three knitting and one crochet projects going round and round. They are all of varying degrees of difficulty. Some are mindless and some require total concentration. However, this means that when one of the mindless projects suddenly sneaks a slapshot past me, I have to slam on my breaks double hard. It's almost as if I'm twice as confused as I would've been had I not had 'mindless' expectations.🙂
The last video stuck with me for a long time, I think because I was really bothered by the idea that your conclusion you drew was that you can't trust yourself when you say "I think it'll be fine"…because I say that in every one of my projects quite a lot and most of the time I'm right (and even when I'm not, I've usually learned something in the process and never regret tearing back and fixing the issue). I'm so glad you persevered through the self-doubt, the sweater looks like it will come out great.
I am so glad you changed your mind on the sweater. It looks great. I get ya though some weeks you just have a hard time finding good with any project you are knitting. I am having the same problem with a no frills cardigan I am making in plotulopi. I have time tabled it for the moment and perhaps I will come back to it.
It's going to be beautiful. I've seen both of those yarns at Joann's before and never thought of using them in a sweater. But together they are a big win! I find that some days when I try on a sweater I just don't like it at all. Then, a week, a month later I try it on and it fits just right.
this is so funny when the other video came out I had made a huge mistake on the salty day sweater by the same designer but now am enjoying knitting the pattern especially the construction since I have only knitted raglan until now. great episode.
In your previous episode, I was about to suggest that you rip back to the armhole split and make the rest of the body narrower (a la modified drop shoulder), but then once you talked about the differences in gauge and the dramatic oversize issues, I decided not to post. So I’m super glad this seems to be back on track! From here (on video), it looks great, so I hope it continues to work out.
I think we all get the frustration. I just plunked a cardi I was knitting in the T file, only to bring it out for a rethink. Nope wasn't going to frog, hated the color, the yarn, the look. The colors in your sweater are some of my absolute favorites for all year round. In fact my first ever garment was knit in a golden color linen. Pattern was called Sel Gris. It had a Star Trek vibe. On your fiber, I am curious where the yarn is spun. Great pod cast and info.

I am currently working on my first knitted garment after years of knitting. My fesr has always been spending a lot of time on something that ends up not fitting. The closer I get to finishing the more concerned I am that it's going to be too large. But after listening to you and your process I think I just need to finish it and see.
Way to go. Glad to see you are re-energized with this sweater. Only 2+ years of knitting and i wonder if any one can help me. I knit a raglan top down sweater and I've worn it a couple of times. It appears to need some short rows in the back for shaping. Is there such a thing as afterthought short rows? I think i would prefer this option vs frogging.
I feel like I was a cheerlider for that sweater here :D I didn't know that, before this appeared to me, as a youtube miniature ad sweater is back - WHOHOOO! :))) I'm so exited! Almost as this would be my own project :) Fingers crossed. Question: I really like the rib by the neck, where colors change after 1 or few lines. Are you going to bind of with the mustard color to have the same efect at the bottom rib?
Maybe a suuuper dumb question… but if you picked up like you were mending a hole at the underarm and decreased, then at the end increased to get back your stitches, would that be a “different” way of doing a bust dart?
Asking cuz I am still a lil new to knitting, but if yourrow gauge is larger then should you have not knitted at many rows as you did? I'm not knocking just need clarification as one day I hope it will start to make sense ....
Norah Gaughan used to be the designer for Berrocco until a few years ago and she has a book called Knitting Nature and a newer book called the Cable source book that is beautiful, if you like a lot of intricate texture, they are worth a look, you may be able to find the books at the library.
It looks lovely on you 😊. I have to admit though I am not a fan of that tilted look. I prefer the hem of my sweaters to be the same level front and back. Seeing how bad this looks on your (ahem apologies) small chest I know this pattern isn’t for me. The tilting would be even more intense over my chest it would probably look cropped in front and not in back 😂

I think we all get the frustration. I just plunked a cardi I was knitting in the T file, only to bring it out for a rethink. Nope wasn't going to frog, hated the color, the yarn, the look. The colors in your sweater are some of my absolute favorites for all year round. In fact my first ever garment was knit in a golden color linen. Pattern was called Sel Gris. It had a Star Trek vibe. On your fiber, I am curious where the yarn is spun. Great pod cast and info.

I am currently working on my first knitted garment after years of knitting. My fesr has always been spending a lot of time on something that ends up not fitting. The closer I get to finishing the more concerned I am that it's going to be too large. But after listening to you and your process I think I just need to finish it and see.

Only 2+ years of knitting and i wonder if any one can help me. I knit a raglan top down sweater and I've worn it a couple of times. It appears to need some short rows in the back for shaping. Is there such a thing as afterthought short rows? I think i would prefer this option vs frogging.
Your sweater looks great. I am kind of wondering what solid dark sleeves would look like vs. the stripes????

I really like the rib by the neck, where colors change after 1 or few lines. Are you going to bind of with the mustard color to have the same efect at the bottom rib?

Maybe a suuuper dumb question… but if you picked up like you were mending a hole at the underarm and decreased, then at the end increased to get back your stitches, would that be a “different” way of doing a bust dart?
Asking cuz I am still a lil new to knitting, but if yourrow gauge is larger then should you have not knitted at many rows as you did? I'm not knocking just need clarification as one day I hope it will start to make sense ....

IMHO, the sweater has a weird trapezoid shape. Huge under your arms but narrows at the bottom ribbing. I think your original instincts were correct.

Norah Gaughan used to be the designer for Berrocco until a few years ago and she has a book called Knitting Nature and a newer book called the Cable source book that is beautiful, if you like a lot of intricate texture, they are worth a look, you may be able to find the books at the library.
It looks lovely on you 😊. I have to admit though I am not a fan of that tilted look. I prefer the hem of my sweaters to be the same level front and back. Seeing how bad this looks on your (ahem apologies) small chest I know this pattern isn’t for me. The tilting would be even more intense over my chest it would probably look cropped in front and not in back 😂
