That's a great question, I wouldn't say so. I also believe I'd seen sharper LCD panels at same PPI and same resolution. Still better than most on the market, but not like having one of those fancy OLED monitors or TVs. For example, I'd say flagship phones with AMOLED screens look and feel better overall. So all in all, I decided to present it as: "It's really good, but it's not peak panel performance" which I think many people may assume when they see it's OLED. I love your reviews! In your opinion, which has the better OLED display, the Steam Deck OLED or the F1 Pro? I am very happy with my OnexPlayer X1 8840U; the only reason I am considering this is the appealing Unit-02 Evangelion colorway. I am a huge Eva fan and have bought things before solely because they were Eva-themed. I like the idea of using this device as a portable Bazzite machine to complement my X1, which I use as my laptop, tablet, and desktop PC. I miss the ease of use of my Steam Deck OLED, which I sold to get the OnexPlayer X1, so your answer would be a deciding factor in whether I purchase it.
It's a tough call as it's easy to look at specs and assume: "It's higher resolution, it's higher framerate, it's better". It's not that simple though. The panel used on the F1 Pro seem slightly overdriven, frames may come in bigger numbers, but they don't seem to leave as fast either. I do feel the added frame count, but it's like the motion clarity doesn't quite match what I feel I should be seeing. The vibrancy is impressive but some colors are obnoxiously too vibrant, the reds particularly, though that's addressable. I also find the SD OLED panel, though having a lower resolution, seems to have a more dense subpixel array? As if each pixels feel more "full". This is from "quick" observation mind you, I haven't ran the tests to confirm any theories. I only have my eyes to trust. Please keep in mind I am super DUPER nitpicking here. I am speaking as someone doing his job, not a gamer just gaming. As a gamer, I still favor the F1 Pro, it is a different state-of-mind when "just gaming" versus getting "analytical". When I just game, I do appreciate it for what it is, and it's easy to tell that it's an upgrade versus 99% of the panels in most other handheld PCs on the market. Put it this way, my number one motive for the F1 Pro was the OLED panel, it dawned on me that while it's a NICE upgrade, the true upgrade is the chip. The X1 Mini and X1's LTPS hold up very nicely next to the F1 Pro. Still, there are moments I find myself in trance with the F1 Pro, and in those moments, I am like: "Yeah, it's a definite upgrade", as long as I don't stop and put on my "work" hat. Paired with the amazing upgrade that is HX 370 and yes, I am in love with this thing 110%. I am SO EXCITED to put Bazzite on it. I hope you won't mind the wall of text, cheers!
@GameTechTalk I was wondering if it's because the display was overclocked. I don't know where they got a 144Hz OLED panel, as no other manufacturer has been able to get a panel with these specs. Possibly, they took a 120Hz panel and did some tinkering to get it to 144Hz. I remember when the Steam Deck OLED came out, people were overclocking their displays to 120Hz and were successful; however, doing so made the picture quality worse. I really hope they add an HDR firmware update in the future that fixes the display's shortcomings. When that's done, I'll get it; hopefully, I can still import the Evangelion edition by then. The oversaturated look is my preference; I usually crank up saturation and contrast on my console.
@GameTechTalk Lastly, you said the X1 LTPS display will sometimes beat the F1. Can you provide an example? As an X1 owner, I understand how good the display is; it's extremely close to OLED in some scenarios until you get to a screen with mostly black, like the OneXPlayer boot logo, which reveals it is not OLED due to the backlight. However, the panel does a good job of hiding this. But if this is the case, where each display wins in some scenarios, is the chip upgrade and the form factor enough to warrant an upgrade from an 8840U device?
@@Respectmyskill07 I think so too (that it's overclocked) and further more, I think the EVO from AYANEO is as well but deeper and somehow, I see visual variables that may be a result of that. The EVO seem to have a very very little bit of "mura" too, which I'll have to check further in time for my review. That said, as you pointed out, the X1 panel does a great job, dare I say even in dark screens, though it's obvious it's not infinite blacks, far gone be the days of black actually looking mid grey. It's very acceptable. Of course, the OLED beats that aspect, but in terms of clarity, and I'm not talking resolution but rather a per-pixel clarity, the X1 is superior. I need to use a macro lens to check out the subpixels array but I wouldn't be surprised. Have you ever overclocked a 1080p panel to 1440p? You know how this causes a bit of fuzz? Well the F1 Pro kind of looks like that but obviously not as bad, and also, on a much higher PPI so it's a lot less noticeable. It sort of looks as if it's not sitting natively on its "native resolution" possible due to flipping to landscape?

Comparing the onexfly to my s95c qd oled tv the onexfly is definitely a small step down in overall quality mostly based on the calibration side of things, ie gamma tracking, color cal, motion clarity by a small margin. But comparing them side by side the difference really isnt massive tbh. The most noticable is that the onexfly needs an srgb clamp to not be oversaturated. Comparing to the steam deck oled though the onexfly is significantly better. Lots of steam deck oleds that use the samsung panels have gnarly mura and uniformity and grain issues. While the onexfly gray uniformity is pretty much flawless. Even better than my s95c. That and the onexfly looks much crisper than the steam deck oled to me. motion clarity is also better but only slightly. There isnt a huge difference between 90-144hz especially when most games dont even hit near that anyway. Steam deck has an edge in color accuracy though and brightness is much the same with the onex being slightly brighter.
Yup, and that’s why I was hoping to express that ultimately, the F1 Pro panel is great, but to temper expectations if expecting “greatest ever”. Being OLED does not mean it is “the best of OLED”, despite being very good. It’s always a careful stance to take as a reviewer. I could have just said: “Oh yeah its great”. But sometimes, I fear that people are hearing: “It’s not that great” when that is not at all what I am trying to say either. Thanks for sharing your inputs and keen observations, I hope more people read this comment, you help illustrate that differences can present themselves. Cheers!
With pleasure! Thanks for watching. Overall, they each have strengths but I would say the F1 Pro panel edges it out a little, especially on brightness, offering a superior frame density by being 144Hz. I’d say the SD OLED has better calibration out of the box and SD OLED looks slightly better in its native resolution, as if individual pixels look denser, possibly due to the subpixel array but I haven’t used a macro lens to verify that yet. Lets call it an educated hunch. That said, SD OLED panels also have variables, so my experience may differ from others.
@@GameTechTalkthanks a lot, I love the OLED screen on SD so much and it’s good to hear that F1 pro is on par with it. Looking forward to getting my own!
2025 will be an exciting year for the PC handheld scene, and I'm also excited to see what "Nintendo's newest handheld" will do to the market, possibly nothing but if we know Nintendo, they should be moving numbers and that could cause a shockwave in the consumer's favor.
@GameTechTalk Speaking of Nintendo doing numbers, I think they have 2 things going in their favour in the handheld scene; 1. The success of the switch 2. Price But with PC handhelds getting more powerful in that small form factor, I'm willing to bet that they could taking a good chucnk of Nintendo's pie.
@@asaemail2078 I agree. I think Nintendo will break the curse with the Switch successor, if they don't, that console will fail but I don't expect that to be the case in this modern day and age, the issue of the Wii U wouldn't repeat itself if just for how massive of a marketing machine social media is. That said, it's not a "Nintendo machine", it's an everything machine so much as you said, the piece of the pie grows everyday, Nintendo will still get a good chunk out of it, but so are other players and they are gaining ground where Nintendo likes to sit and ponder on its hardware. Lastly, if my theories are correct, which we'll never know, Nvidia was tough to negotiate with and that is why the next Switch if really equipped with Nvidia GPU, will most likely be the last with Nvidia. The green company doesn't care for consumer GPUs nowadays, they are full force into AI and probably prefer the subscription business with their Geforce NOW anyway. @ Ahh I see, thanks! Yeah I’m familiar with undervolting which indeed, this could definitely be leveraged for even better battery life! I was not familiar with the software you mentioned however, I’ll have a look thanks!
Do you think this is powerful enough for a next gen steamdeck platform?
If it is valve would probably do a custom version of the chip, but i have a feeling they will be utilizing whatever is beyond this one
I think Z2 Extreme will be based off of that chip. Definitely strong enough for an evolved SteamOS experience. But Valve could indeed wait for a mid-gen between that and the next
@@steveybiggunzgaming8118 That is my gut feeling too. Custom strix halo APU.
I love how these videos are organized, I just wish I knew what the hell you were talking about! 😂

I was able to see it as OKestGamer brought one to CES, it is a beautiful unit, I can't deny! I'm really excited to see what ASUS will do because looking at the Legion Go 2 first hand, they are extremely gorgeous and appealing handhelds.
Heck yeah dude this thing is so freaking fun
Right? Saw your video on it as well! Unrelated but unfortunate I didn't get to spend more time hanging with you, you're awesome my guy!
@@GameTechTalk dude you were probs the coolest person I met at CES. Ur energy was a breath of fresh air dude
Always love your handheld reviews bro. Very professional I want this one bad but I’m waiting to for CES 2025 to see what the AMD Z2 chip can do
I'm really excited to see what CES brings, I hope you'll tune in to my CES coverage! Cheers and thanks for the support!
@GameTechTalk thank you for the detailed response. You are the best
It sort of looks as if it's not sitting natively on its "native resolution" possible due to flipping to landscape?
super review, merci le pot
Merci mec, j'apprecie le soutien comme toujours!
You speak french?@@GameTechTalk
@@asaemail2078 I do, I am french Canadian! English is not my second language either though I'd say, I speak it better than my second one since I practiced english so much more over the years.
Cheers!
First 😂 and all I play is Minecraft, MW3, Skyrim, and Fallout 😂
Great titles across the board! Thanks for being first 😊
Hey thanks for the review bro, I’m ready to get one but can I ask how is the OLED screen compared to the Steam Deck OLED?
I'm USB fam myself but not having oculink is a bit of an oof.
That it is but I'm willing to overlook it because it's so great at being a handheld.
How do you get the red and gold one?
It is only available in China, I'm sure there are ways to import though I assume it costs a pretty penny. Sadly, I have no idea how to do that.
Good review, as always!
I'm excited about handhelds in 2025 with the Z2 chips coming and also Steam could one day run on ARM😊
2025 will be an exciting year for the PC handheld scene, and I'm also excited to see what "Nintendo's newest handheld" will do to the market, possibly nothing but if we know Nintendo, they should be moving numbers and that could cause a shockwave in the consumer's favor.
@GameTechTalk Speaking of Nintendo doing numbers, I think they have 2 things going in their favour in the handheld scene;
1. The success of the switch
2. Price
But with PC handhelds getting more powerful in that small form factor, I'm willing to bet that they could taking a good chucnk of Nintendo's pie.
@GameTechTalk or what do you think
Lots of tinfoil hat perspectives dropped in here but yeah, that's where I'm at in my thought-process.
@@GameTechTalk fingers crossed 🤞🏽

Thx for the video, Clef. I really enjoy 1NB's products, but the upcoming devices (G1 and Sugar) are not my cup of the tea and I'm not sure what this company is up to. Plus, the GPD Pocket 4 is more what I'd enjoy in the future which is why I switched back to GPD. But still, the OneXFly Pro seems to be an awesome device.
The ONEXSUGAR scares me... in the right way. I'm skeptical but they have my attention, we'll see what comes up once we know more. I haven't had a new GPD device since the GPD Win Mini that I never reviewed, maybe 2025 I could buy something new off of them, the GPD Pocket 4 is tempting ngl

Then put bazzite on it, it will run way better then windows and battery will be better also
True and true. I will be doing it with the F1 Pro because the navigation experience really is subpar so Bazzite will feel right at home on this one. And they have tools to make the edits to RGB, etc etc so you're not missing out on "no ONEXCONSOLE" from what I read.
The MSI Claw 8 is $900 you’d have to basically be crazy to pay $450 more then an MSI Claw 8 for this device. They are selling a one x fly with an OLED & and 8,000 series chip for $999 there is no legitimate need to pay $350 more have you seen how powerful a current gen device is when it’s equipped with 32 gigs of RAM? I’m telling you that $1,000 xfly is stupid powerful & can run anything & the $1,350 model is just stupid excess.
I hear you and I can understand the perspective you’re presenting. I havent checked too much what the performance will be like for the Claw 8+ but I’m hoping to be able to give it a try when the oportunity presents itself. That said, I think everything you said could be true for the Steam Deck OLED as well. It all comes down to how comfortable one is in spending towards incremental upgrades.
it’s no different then buying an iPhone in 2024 & then buying another one in 2025. A discerning consumer would never do that. It’s a suckers bet.
@@edwardlashley3572 What you're describing has been studied for decades. Consumer behaviorism, and indeed, the "early buyers" often pay for the ones who are not, by jumping in early and paying the most. That said, not being one yourself should not result to insulting the ones who are. Everyone plays a role. All the same, it's perfectly fine to know where you stand in that buying pattern and what you don't abide to.
Im moving away from 7 inch stuff probably eying the 8inch or 11inch onex with BSP/switch moba controllers weight is big for me, Im currently on the ayaneo kun, its great but the weight has begun to bother me now and the battery doesnt matter even with its massive battery frankly your not going to play starfield / nolvous for more 1.5hrs these games need 30w.
If weight is important, you may want to stick to 8.8”. The X1 is nice but the weight doesn’t take to long to set in and by the time it does, holding it doesn’t feel as nice.
If this dont cost to much, i like to buy
It goes for 999USD, it's worth the asking price in my humble opinion but I would totally understand if some people prefer to stick to the more affordable options. Prices will drop as more options enter the market.

would the missing of the occulink port be a reason not to buy onexgpu or onexgpu2 on this device?
No not a reason per se but you will definitely be leaving performance on the table. If that bothers you, you may want to rethink your strategy.
