That was a great comeback in the final round. I'm glad they came back considering that they wanted to go to Brazil which is such a nice place. Dubai's nice too, but not as nice as Brazil. Man, being only halfway towards 100, while your opponents were three points away, and then winning, equals epic.
I just watched a Babble today where a contestant gave a clue for lighter saying "light" and they allowed it and they won because of it. I thought it was unfair, especially after seeing this (buzzing was the correct call). I don't know if the contestants know this but the words are always 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 letters long. That can help (although with kids receiving they may not always be able to figure that out). I like Babble way more than Knockout although I think they played Knockout way more.
You have to understand that every show has a "bible" of rules we have to adhere to and just because you know the rules to Pyramid doesn't mean you can apply them to every show. I assure you, we played the game fairly for everyone, but thank you for your opinion! ;)
I'm not arguing about the rule itself. It's not clear to me what the rule even is (should you be allowed to say part of the word or not?). I'm arguing about the consistency of the rule. Whatever the rule for Scrabble Showdown is, if you buzz speak as a clue for speaker once and allow light as a clue for lighter, that is a mistake in one instance. If in this video the buzz was the correct call, then allowing light as a clue for lighter was a slip and their opponents were cheated out of a trip and it's a shame we didn't find out until five years later.
I would have to see the ep...here the Dad was clearly going for SPEAKER...the problem with this game was we never knew what answer the giver was going for...sure you can TRY to guess it, but we're playing along as well...so without seeing LIGHTER I can't answer it properly.
The only two words I didn't get before the clue was read were CEILING and SALUTE and I got those pretty quickly afterwards. They were so obvious. I can't believe neither of them got figure EIGHT.
