Actually there is a theory that the members are connecting the universes in their solo projects, for example, moonbyul release her single called Eclipse and in the beginning of the MV its her dressed as the choreographer that belong to the third universe, solar also just release her single called spill it out and there is a scene where you can see in the screens there are around her a scene from the HIP MV, and the vibe she's got in the video is the same as Solar as a rock star which belong to the second universe, even in the make up and colors. Wheein release her solo album last year and it was related to painting so, if this theory is correct she would be the painter from the third universe. We are currently waiting for hwasa to release her solo single which is confirmed by now 🙊
Ohhh I see!! That is super cool, I should definitely check out all the solo stuff. I was planning on doing Eclipse anyways but maybe I should wait for Hwasa's and then see if I can connect the videos to this video. That's super interesting and clever! Thanks so much for watching 😊
@@thisbethor I think it's mostly a theory fans pieced together that has evidence in Byul and Yong's solos. For a while, fans were wondering if RiB universes have other connections like Paint Me/4 Seasons 4 colors project did. Main speculation seemed to be that there would be releases from each universe. BUT, after Byul and Yong came out with their solos and with the true evidence OP mentioned (Byul choreographer outfit in eclipse, Yong HIP MV in spit it out), it seems like the main connection is just even in solos, Mamamoo's "Destiny" is to still be together, aka always OT4
The meaning they wanted to convey with the lyrics and video concept is that no matter your background and your role in life, anyone can be "hip." Then they tie in their own personal experiences as Mamamoo where people bash them (which is where your media take is accurate). And hilariously, the included things said about them: greasy hair (Solar known to not wash her hair often when busy), "she's crazy" (wheein because her father left her and did some shady stuff using her name. Even though it wasn't Wheein's fault, somehow Kmedia roped her in and literally an outlet called her crazy), "President Hwasa dresses ridiculously at airport" (Hwasa wore a crop top to the airport, got bashed by knetz, then wore a shirt with no bra the next time at the airport), and "off to write my next album" (At the start of their time as Mamamoo, people questioned Byul's presence in the group-- a rapper only in a group of vocalists. She also proved them wrong by singing and belting in "Ten Nights."). Their universe "jobs" are what they think they'd be if they weren't in this universe. The other point made in this video is in every single universe, the four girls meet up. This drives their album's first track, Destiny, which essentially means no matter what universe, what the girls do, they are destined to be with each other. Interesting things about the set: The main dance location had a background, similar to art created by a feminist artist Barbara Kruger. Even though almost everyone told Solar it was too risky, she insisted on doing the half-and-half rockstar concept with a group of drag queens. That in of itself is a statement because of how conservative Korea is. While somewhat hidden, the girls have really cool messages like this in a lot of their work! (If you decide to check out Wheein's "Good bye," see if you can pick out the true storyline!) Good luck and cool reaction :)
Vicki L. Wow thank you so mich for all this info! I love that they prioritize meaning and the message they convey over commercial success or the opinion of the media/the public. It’s very admirable especially in the kpop climate where everything is supposed to be so strictly appealing and a scandal can ‘cancel’ you so fast. They’re amazing I really like this message. I’m excited to check out their solo stuff!
@@reaKtpop Glad you learned something the comment and even bothered to read and respond :D I wish you the best with your channel and I hope you get more sleep, haha!
Side note: Wheein really does paint in her spare time, so it's partially not just dreams, but also different sides of who they already are. Incidentally, showing other sides of who you are is a big theme in and behind Solar'S Spit It Out, so mybe keep that in mind when watching that one.
I'm a new MAMAMOO fan, so thank you so much for this explanation! This is probably the clearest and most concise explanation for HIP that I've ever read!
Hip one of the way Korean people saying "cool" And yes, it is gloves that Solar wore on hear head. Moonbyul is a choreographer not a dancer according to her.
I had a bit of fun with this video so it’s a little out there sometimes but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! ☺️ Also! I’ve heard Egotistic as well but still not enough so be sure to recommend more songs!
Loving your reactions so far. I hope you'll keep it up! A professional's insight mixed with a good measure of fangirling is so refreshing. When analyzing Mamamoo's and Dream Catcher's videos, keep in mind that both groups aren't with the big companies, so no endless budgets there. Not saying to "cut them some slack" or anything, just that it's a factor.
I'm not a filmmaker bit the three top MMM videos I think are the most interesting, filmwise, are: 1. Windflower, which is an homage to Chinese director Wong Kar Wai 2. Woo Hoo, while a bit of a glorified LG ad, it was shot on one take and it is very interesting as they move through a house. 3. Mr. Ambiguous, their debut song, it is an homage to a behind the scenes, stage production video from the 1960's
There are a bunch of short videos that were released before this that show connected stories of each member even though they don't know each other in the other universes. Each one also features part of another song from the album so it's a great way to introduce yourself to their range musically as well as personality wise. Definitely worth the time to look up and watch. Also I sent you a video of Moon goofing around in the snow and smiling. It's her adorable side.
Yeees! This song actual middle finger to all the haters and media that discredit them. Haters says they are "not HIP/UGLY/CRAZY" but somehow they are became role model for self-love now. Ps: there is in YT some video, an aggressive reporter ask them about the song and "scandal" about Hwasa outfit, nad Solar also Moonbyul defend Hwasa, In that video I can see how great Solar as leader and how strong their bond as group
I wonder if you'll combust when you see Moonsun (Byul x Solar) interactions :)) Wind Flower is the other MV in which they filmed outdoors instead of in set so you might be interested in that
I'd recommend also watching the trailers, really nice. A lot of very short videos but together I think they had enough footage to make three or four or even more MV's . (I expected them to at the the time). Again it shows how much effort they are willing to take for a few seconds. Seriously in the west each of these sets (of one of the 12 alternative universal characters) would have been enough for an entire MV, right?
I saw your comment about watching "spit it out" and "eclipse", but please think about adding "twit" and "easy" or "good bye" and check out each member individually ;) They're amazing as a unit, but as solos. Those solos give us all a chance to check out a different facet of their personality and style!
Vicki L. I’ve seen Twit before and love it, is another one of those songs by Hwasa? But regardless, yeah I like the idea, I think I’ll do a solo marathon. It might be a longer video but my videos are always long so 😅 Thanks for the suggestion!
@@reaKtpop Ah, to clarify, I listed all the girls' solos so far. Solar: Spit it out Moonbyul: Eclipse, Snow Hwasa: Twit (recently released her first OST, "Orbit" if you want to review a solo without having listened to it before, but there's no official MV w Hwasa in it) Wheein: Good Bye, Easy (She's also released some other OSTs: Shadow, Anymore) Down to give more Mamamoo recs, but for a video or even a series where you review each member's solos I'd recommend these.
Also, Mamamoo was described by a show host as 4 vocals, 4 visuals, 4 rappers, and 4 comedians. It's pretty true, so feel free to ask for fun content to watch as well. Whether or not you choose to watch and record as a reaction is up to you
I love this song so much! And Moonbyul oh my she's amazing. Have you ever thought about doing a reaction to Moonbyul's "Eclipse" MV? I would love to see your reaction.
Yayya another great reaction! ❤️I love this song so much, so I wanted to point out few things you might find interesting. The scene where Hwasa is the president, and the breaking news rolls 'President Hwasa Dressed Ridiculously at the Airport' is a response to negative press Hwasa received after wearing a crop top bra to the airport. She followed it up by wearing t-shirts with no bra on her next airport visits, as a subtle retort to sexist criticism. You were right about the universes and Solar is supposed to be an outer space princes since her real life personality is what k-pop people call 4D (weird or unique personality) AND FINALLY she performed with DRAG QUEENS 🏳️🌈and YES Moonbyul is considered a Lesbian Icon among Korean Lesbians, no one really knows her sexuality though 🤓 Sorry for the huge comment, LOVE YOU! ❤️
Ohhh this is all so interesting!! Wow I should seriously start stanning them they sound iconic and rebellious 😭 I’ve heard about the Hwasa incident before but wowwww what a great way to stick it to the press, she’s so cool! And YES MOONBYUL HIT ME UP!! 😂 Thank you for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it 🥰
@@reaKtpop The best to show how rebellious they are is what happened in the MMA2019 (melon awards).
