The blonde German soldier that goes out into No Man's land was played by the band drummer, Hannes Van Dah who is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish who sings at the credits .. credited at the end.

I'm English, but my Great Grandad was German, so I had family on both sides during WW1. My Great Grandad moved to Britain just after the war, had a son, and he was a paratrooper in the British army in WW2

I can recommend Lady of the dark, Night witches or No bullets fly and with these you want the animated story video because it goes really well with the music and explains more.

Sadly not everywhere, though. There are even places where the first man to go up to go towards the enemy line just got shot dead...
But yes, high ranking officers hated that it happened, and they made sure it would not happen again the next year, with a penalty of death for anyone who would do it later into the war...

Sutch an emotional song and i understand why the imagry needs to be so violent in parts of the video. Without the violent parts we wouldnt treasure the peaceful parts and see the how much of a thing this was and also how much it scared the polititians in all the countries. I must have seen this video 50 times or at least close to it and i always get a tear in my eye thinking about this event. great reaction ty and be safe.
If you want a Sabaton song that'll make you emotional, you have 1916.

Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music.
Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 120 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) .
