So glad I found you. I'm a beginner teaching my Girl Scout troop (17 year olds) how to play (bought ukes with our cookie money). We went to Hawaii summer of 2014 and they all came back wanting to learn to play the Uke. I took 8 weeks of lessons, but still need lots of help! I'm referring my girls to your lessons and tutorials to help them practice at home! They'll probably catch on way faster than this senior citizen but I love to sing and always wanted to play an instrument so here goes! We get good enough we'll send you a post!
you are a patient teacher! Im 56 years old and i am now excited to give time to play with the ukelele my daughter gave me last christmas. thank you for being a teacher., athank ou for your encouragement as well
For anyone having trouble with the B chord, a B7 (dominant) fits pretty well. Just keep your first finger on the 3rd string rather than 3rd and 4th. I was messing around with it and it sounds pretty cool!
Agreed. I love how B7 sounds in this song. However, sooner or later, it pays to master the B, and I think Cynthia does a great job here teaching how to practice that difficult chord.
@@barbarapenge7409 I find I'm having the same problem with tiny fingers. I have to carefully bend my hand around, which doesn't work so well when changing chords. :(
Kiaora Cynthia, I am Hana from New Zealand... Your tutorials are awesome, your ukelele's sound fantastic, your voice is angelic and you give intstructions with great patients and you are beautiful... Thank you so much for your time energy and knowledge most of all for sharing your passion for the ukelele with us all... I am learning my uke much faster thanks to your tutorials... Big gratitude!! Keep up the the AWESOME ENERGY!!
You are an amazing teacher! I'm learning ukulele since a week now and understand all tutorials because I started with yours, island strum, back beat, swim strum and many other songs! Just wonderful, no other words!
I just started playing the ukelele and have been watching videos and my 2 year old has been watching with me and has been rocking her head. We are comepletely hooked on theese videos!
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You are a wonderful teacher and I love these lessons. I practiced all summer and into winter and I'm ready to start the lesson 2 segment. It's still not perfect but I am getting to the point where I'm not so scared to play around the campfire for my friends (so excited!). You have rekindled my love for music and I could never thank you enough.
Congrats Ms. Lin. Great tutorial and lovely voice as well. I'm actually a guitar player...not very good, and I'm trying to tech my 8 years good daughter ukelele...just to introduce her in the music world. Everytime I play Creep in my guitar she always smiles and follows the rithm...so I decided to search for aa Luke tutorial...you have the perfect one. Definitely you have a new subscriber.
Thank you for your tutorials, very detailed and made with patience. Greetings from Colombia! I just got my first Ukulele and I've made a lot of progress watching you.
I'd buy an Ukulele 4 months ago, and since this I am looking for videos to learn some songs. Your tutorial is the best one! Very simple and clear. I can't do it in the first day. But ok, i will keep trying. But the important is: I understand. Thank you. Kisses from Florianópolis
I picked up my sons uke today for the first time and i love it!!!! Im trying to learn Creep before he gets back tonight!! :))) I had a look through some other tutorials but yours is by far the best!!!!
this tutorial is fantastic! i strum once down on the last word of every line but on the chorus i strum down down-up down-up down-up just in case anyone wanted to do things a little different
I have always reversed my fingers for the G chord (1 on the bottom string) which makes for an easy transition from G to B . I didn't think I would like this song (The title was a big turnoff for me!) then it was featured in Apple TV's "Morning Show", episode 2. I had to google to find out the name of the song. And when I saw "Creep", I thought, "Cynthia Lin did a tutorial for that!" (Again, I didn't watch it because I didn't like the title!) I guess this is further proof that, "you can't tell a book by its cover." It's SO beautiful! And only four simple chords! Thank you! It's lovely. And a wonderful tutorial with the fingerpicking!
You are the most wonderful teacher Cynthia Lin! In all my years I have never seen a better one. Thank you so much for your dedication and love of music and compassion for teaching all of us.
+David Bitler If anyone is interested in playing the uke the best success that i've had was with the Arthurs Uke Blog (i found it on google) definately the most helpful method i've tried.
I love the way she goes through slow step by step so that you can understand other tutorials I have watched go a little fast for me because I am just getting the hang of the ukulele tysm 💖💖💖
YAY I'm so glad I found you! A LOT of the tutorials on YT are soooo boring. YOU ROCK! I'm brand new to this Ukulele thing. AND I'm learning...thank you so much!
Cynthia, you have such a wonderful , inspiring way of teaching and such a beautiful voice. I have my first uke ( tried guitar and gave up!) at the age of 48 and am really enjoying your tutorials. Thank you and keep up the good work x
Thank you, Cynthia! I had no idea how to play a ukulele when I first started your videos. I started off by watching a tutorial on “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, learned it- then I found this tutorial on “Creep” & you have me hooked. You explain so well, and help me understand really all the hard parts that most people don’t take the time to explain. I love you! Keep up your amazing work & I’m so proud of you!!!
I just discovered your channel and I must to say that as beginner with ukulele (and English language) your videos are amazing!! Greaaaat! Thank you Cynthia!!
I am new to Ukulele, transitioning from guitar. Your tutorials are great, I am enjoying the challenge of learning a new instrument. Thank you for your instruction, you are a good teacher.
Thank you so much you break it down to which I can understand the chords and strum. I just started two weeks ago never owning or playing a instrument (28yrs old) and this by far is something I’m loving wish I picked this up when I was a teen. Thanks again for the content! Keep up the good work!!
Wow. I like the way you lay out the instructions. Can't put my finger on what it is, there is something that clicks more than all the guitar lessons that I have watched over the years. Now I can fill that empty spot of my guitar rack with a Uke.
Dear Cynthia, thank you very, very much for your great tutorial of this fabulous Song!!! Best regards from Bavaria ... keep in going like this ...... 👍
You are an amazing ukulele player and teacher. I love the pace you go and the specific detail you put into it. I'm learning many songs quickly because of your thorough explanation. So far have only seen 4 videos but looking forward to many more thank you so much for the lessons!
Thank you Cynthia for confirming you can do fingerpicking without a nails. I don't have good nails and instead of thinking I am not playing picking well I should focus on mastering what I can with finger tips. I knew it but it is good to hear from someone else :)
Impressed Cynthia, I've been playing chords fir a few years now and this fingerpicking is just what I'm looking for to add new d path to my playing thanks xxx
I just had a uke as a gift (best gift ever) and you are my favorite teacher. I just begin learning music and you are simply the best. Keep up the good work thank you very much for your help.
If you're having trouble transitioning from B to G, you can try keeping your index finger on the 3rd string, and barring the bottom three strings. Since you're going to be pressing the third fret of the C string, it won't change the sound. It's a little bit easier because you don't have to move your index finger as much, but you do have to bar three strings instead of two, so it's a tradeoff.
I've been cheating by using both my index and middle fingers instead of the barred chord and then using my ring finger and pinky for the other two strings. It's so much easier, but I'm a newbie and I don't know if this is considered faux pas.
Thanks for this fingerpicking pattern. I have been working on my arpeggio, lots of problem with the ring finger. Using middle and ring fingers together is a great way to start fingerpicking.
This is a great tutorial! I watched a different one to try and play this song and just could NOT get the transition between G and B. As soon as you said "swivel", my mind was blown and I could play it fine. Thank you so much!
A friend suggested I watch this channel. I am amazed, my mind goes to George Formby when I think of Ukulele. Now I have to decide if I should buy a soprano or concert one >.< Amazing voice btw 8)
Great stuff Cynthia. New to the uke. Really got hooked when practicing meditational kirtan. I'm still working on the standard four chords, but your teaching method and fingerpicking style has me practicing Creep! You make it simple and dare I say it....attainable....that's massive for me! Cheers Dave
Thanks for taking the time to put together the excellent video and the chord chart too! Definitely the G to B transition is one I will need to work on. Well done!
I like coming back to this video to remember when the only chord I knew was "C" 😂, kept getting frustrated with my short fingers and couldn't even strum or fingerpick. But yeah, this was the first song I learned in the ukulele 😊✌
Thank you so much ......what an absolutely marvellous teacher you are, the way you explain chords and movement....learned so much in just 10 mins.....now the practice!!!!!
hi ms cynthia! i came to your page because i started playing the ukelele. i really love your tutorials and i learned a lot from your videos! can you also play what i wouldn't do by a fine frenzy please? I'd love to watch you play and sing it on your own style. 😊
You know . I have been watching you for. Like. YEARS 3 STRAIGHT YEARS! ever since I've played ukulele! Yeah my first song was lava. But now I'm playing a lot of other songs now! Thanks for helping me grow! :D Wish you luck in your ways
With these barred chords it can also be easier to lift the uke closer to your face so your hand and wrist have more leverage. You can also try to turn your finger slightly so that its kind of on its side. You are there by now I'm sure anyway!
You can do B in a different way, bar all the way. Me personally I like bar 3 strings. It works best for my fingers size and shape to press well strings. And it is easier to go from B to Bm. You just play with your fingers until you will find a sweet spot.
I'm hooked on ukulele tutorials and I don't even have a ukulele... Your tutorials are great!
Jason Patterson Get one! You can get a fine one for about 50 us dollars
me too.. lol
haha, i'm dying here, lol. I subscribed and I'm watching all her videos.

You're the most patient and nicest teacher I've watched in youtube so far. :)
thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
I love how you smile at some parts, as if you can really see us struggling to play it right haha! Great tutorial. I am loving you already :D

I'm fingerpicking because of the talented tutelage of Cynthia Lin! Thank you and Happy New Year!

Thank you very much. Going through it immediately increased my playing.
You are motivating. I find you to be a great ukulele teacher and I love learning new songs with you
You made my entire day with this tutorial. OMG, I love you and this song so much! Best teacher ever
Watching all your videos now! Oh my! I want ukulele now 😩😩😩
My fingers just won't curl enough to do the B chord. It's frustrating.
Practice practice practice.
Bar all 4 with the pointer
more meat in the middle section of the finger than just the tip ;)

With these barred chords it can also be easier to lift the uke closer to your face so your hand and wrist have more leverage. You can also try to turn your finger slightly so that its kind of on its side. You are there by now I'm sure anyway!

Your indeed an excellent teacher. Thanks for your patience and clarity !
great uke tutorial, i like how you really broke it down. i felt like i had a one one one practice session, thanks!
This ukulele tutorial was so helpful!! I learned the song in not even 30 minutes!!❤️
Thanks Cynthia! Nice to have some fingerpicking tips.
Love the way you broke this down. Thank you!!
