      No kidding. I bought my 2018 Elantra SEL new for $16,600 discounted, but now a new 2022 Elantra SEL would cost me about $23,500 at full MSRP. A $7,000 price increase in just 4yrs to stay at the same tier of car is painful. Might have to downgrade to something cheaper. :(

      Which one needs more maintenance, burns more oil and has electrical liabilities. if you think a Honda the size of a Buick with a motor smaller than the 1.6 eg/ek civic engine is not the problem with new cars then you should watch your soy bean intake quit abusing estrogen.

      @@enhancementtank5876 I'll be so glad when this trend of tiny turbo engines dies off. Turbos are a very expensive component to replace and they all eventually wear out. Plus, turbo engines tend to be more prone to oil burning after 100k miles. The turbo boost puts extra strain on the engine.

    I love how old cars were raw, easy to repair, simple yet cool, and peppy, you could have oil and grease on your hands while working on them, cool and limited electronics to fiddle around with, and the mechanical connection while shifting gears. I can go and on and on and on. Modernization and all is cool but I cannot just digest these yee ass electric vehicles. Even in Internal combustion, you gotta remove a heap of plastic to access the engine. Basically, new cars are more like Ipad on wheels. Just too many electronics. I mean WTF is an Electronic Parking brake!! Nonetheless, I visit the motorweek youtube channel every time I feel lusting for these 90s, 80s, and early 2000s machines 💗

      @@tn18977 yeah 😅 I understand that. We get used to the bygone era, but it takes time for us to adapt to accept the current scenario and move on toward innovation (the best example is the electric hellcat or the downsizing of engines for emission norms). But all these were just personal opinions. However, it's no sin to own and drives one of these oldies around today. I am not a 90s born though. I was born in 2000 yet I have a profound love for these old cars.

    • @tn18977

      @@nabeelshaikh1103 I'm just saying this isn't a "simple car", much like how a PC from that year is a not simple electronic device. By 1997 we were already 20 years into the computer-controlled era for cars. Every car had a network of many sensors that fed information back to one or more ECUs which required new types of diagnostic skills and equipment to service and repair.

    • @nabeelshaikh1103
      @nabeelshaikh1103 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tn18977 Yes I agree with you! But what I feel is, these were kinda less complicated. Nevertheless, that is something acceptable deeming decades of innovation as a result of what we have today. But these cars own my heart. Well, the prevailing era manufacturers like nissan and Porsche do value enthusiast tastes and proceed to offer stick shifts in sports cars considering how rare manuals are becoming and the existing vision of the future of electrification with fake ass exhaust notes. It's a bliss to have cars like the Nissan Z existing today to at least experience what a modern-day sports car with a raw manual feels

    I was a teen when the Tiburon was introduced. I thought it was such a cool, fun-looking sporty coupe. Then they facelifted it and I thought it looked an ugly mess. I had a 2003 GT V6. Good looking and driving car, and sounded great. It had been sitting for over a year before being rescued, but after replacing a few general wear parts, it drove without a hitch for about 2 years before I sold it. I had to replace the alternator because a valve cover gasket leak killed it, but that's on me for choosing to ignore the leak.

    Inspired by HCD I, HCD II, and HCD III concepts, the Hyundai Tiburon was designed by Park Jong-suh, Hyundai's first designer. The suspension was tuned during a 6-month span by Porsche. The Tiburon participated in the World Rally Championship from 1997 to 1999, which was faster than WRC cars on tarmac, was driven by Colin McRae's younger brother Alister McRae.

Today, 2022, you can pay just under $25K; and get a Honda Civic *with* a turbo.... that does 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds. How does that make any sense!? hooned out to F and crashed or burned out. Same reason 2000s Celica's and RSX's are getting rare. It took a lot more work to make a 1st gen Tiburon too much for a teen/early-twentysomething to handle. It's not that they were fast, 2nd gens were just fast and cheap enough to encourage that abuse.

      The first gen models didn't sell well. They may not have even been available nation wide in the beginning.
      Also didn't age well. Hyundai was getting better, but still where Mitsubishi was a decade earlier, so a lot were trashed out by second or third owners.
      Some people don't like the looks of the next generation, but they held up a lot better. Unfortunately a lot of those ended up in the hands of DIY tuners who didn't know what they were doing.

    0:23 - I'd say they were plentiful in the late-90's... Almost every automaker had at least one cheap "sporty" coupe to offer.

    • @interstate366
      @interstate366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Then most of them disappeared over the next decade. With the Civic coupe being dropped last year it’s just the GR86/BRZ now.

    • @Stressless2023
      @Stressless2023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@interstate366 As far as small coupes, yes... As far as "cheap" ones, the BRZ/GT86 are actually fairly expensive... A new Mustang and especially a new Chevy Camaro are actually less expensive than both.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, pretty much everyone was making a 2-door coupe in the 90s.

    • @interstate366
      @interstate366 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stressless2023 yeah, the FWD coupe market dried up entirely at least. I’m surprised how expensive the GR86/BRZ are looking at them. Most of the manual ones near me are about $40,000. About in line with the Prelude of yesteryear adjusted for inflation though.

    I like these cars. 17" wheels would look great and you didn't have to lower the car for it to do so. These cars didn't need a body kit. There was a huge performance aftermarket in south Korea and a smaller market in the US. I believe Shark Performance was the name of it ..

  • @outerfroggy1
    @outerfroggy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My mom had one of these new. Fire engine red with the giant shark fin wing on the back. Great looking for the time but fairly gutless and sadly it was an automatic.

    I miss the simple 1.8+ liter engines with manual transmissions, all in affordable, small and lightweight cars (Celica, Sentra SE-R, Tiburon (well, with the V6), Eclipse, etc...). In 2004 I tried a 1988 Nissan Maxima V6 5 speed manual, fast? No, but with torque and good response, I had a 1983 Celica Supra, it wasn't fast, but the response of the engine was really good for a 2.8l engine (with a 4.3 axle ratio).

      Yeah my first car was an 86 Celica and I thought that little thing was so fun lol. I replaced it with a 99 Ford Escort ZX2 5-speed which felt like a Corvette by comparison lol I've been driving sticks ever since. I think my next car will be a new Integra manual.

    I haven't seen one of these in years never saw many of them. It was in the early 2000s saw a Black Tiburon a guy wearing sleeveless shirt and cap always drove one of these, at that time Hyundai wasn't all reliable did have some nice cars like Tiburon and Elantra, did like the second generation Tiburon was nicer now in love with Hyundai products, my neighbor across the street bought a older Sonata from 2011-2014 generation looks good like new. My aunt had a '89 Sonata it was purple a nice car though, remember in '95 was in kindergarten at that time when she came to pick me up on a Friday afternoon it was a lot of buses in front of the school so she had to park right in front of them since wasn't no where to park right in a muddy area she was a new driver at that time. She was stuck deep in the mud it took 6 or 7 men get her out ... LOL 😆 when we got in the car she said I think we're stuck she knew she was in trouble soon press the gas car slipping and sliding mud was going everywhere it took all the men over a hour get her car out ... smh one or two men had press down on the accelerator the rpms was going up/down still remember looking at the speedometer finally a older guy was able get the car out of mud her Sonata was a mess mud was all over the car.

    The 96-01 Tiburons also had Porsche tuned rear suspension as this was a time where Porsche was struggling financially.

    • @adamlapinski7590
      @adamlapinski7590 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are correct about Porsche struggling. It was the front suspension they tuned.

      @epicraptorman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamlapinski7590 I went back and reviewed my previous knowledge and it seems that Porsche tuned the suspension in it's entirety, not just fear or front.

      @@epicraptorman It appears you are correct! They marketed the front suspension being tuned, but I saw on one of the reels the engineer Byung-ju Kim doesn't specify whether it was front or rear, he just says "suspension" which I'm assuming includes rear.

    Nice little bang for buck machine, too bad I never see them on the road anymore. Probably cause 90's Hyundais don't last that long because of rust, and in the early 2000's many boy racers bought them, riced them out and wrapped them around a pole
