I went to a hbcu (Grambling) so I know how a band is suppose to execute. Something is not right. I have never seen a dm struggle like that before. usually dm's are perfection.
Back in the 80's Famu was the best in the world 60 minutes 20/20 Ebony Magazine I didn't think I was going to make the band but we practice over and over again until I got it right the slow one was the easiest part and there was no counting period!!..It was done in our minds ... Drumajors had to be 6ft and above this is Army Dog Fall 1983
It is obvious that they are in it for their own egos. The trombone player on the left front of the formation has it right! Some of the other band members are there to play. The color guard looks like they are there for social status as do the drum majors. One question... did they get new drum majors yesterday? Because it looks like it. And, if you can’t March that fast and stay in step..... don’t...
I remember a DAY When the RATTLER STRIKE was ur Knee had to be SO HIGH ur Thigh was a 90 degree from the Ground, ur Balance was So Impeccable, the "Strike" went at LEAST, HALFWAY Around the Field (50 to 50). But then, that was a Time when the "100" was SO PRESTIGIOUS they would NEVER Dawn a BASEBALL CAP while performing on the Field, even the Flags wore Berets!!!! But that was a Time when the Band NOT ONLY LOOKED like the BEST BAND in the Land, the "100" WAS the BEST BAND in the LAND...And NONE Of the Drum Majors were abt to FALL DOWN!!! 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️💔
Lot of criticism. Some definitely valid. FAMU marching band is reformulating and as you can imagine, there is a magnifying glass on them. That Robert Champion incident was very damaging. I'll just put it that way. It will take some time to build an elite band from scratch.
As a FAMU graduate in the 70’s , I remember The 100 tearing up the field with the RATTLER coming of the field between the drums. What happened to this SIGNIFICANT part of the routine??? Five Degrees later, I am still a RATTLER first and now, a ALABAMA “ROLL-TIDE” DST!!! CUT - UP. RATTLERS!!!!!! MOVING. UP!!!

Great coverage! I don’t really know this 100. Nobody seems to be having fun. The drum majors no longer look uniform with each other..I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s a high school feel to this 100.
You have the administration scared shit. No more all male DMs, no more height restrictions. The program ultimately suffers but no one is trying to lose their career.

Went to a HBCU in NC back in 1974. Had two drum majors and back then we weren’t taking no prisoners. Practice begins at five o’clock in the morning (pre drill) ends before breakfast then commence again at 3 or four o’clock in the afternoon and ends before the evening dinner line close. Military boots and shorts, men and women, practice drill hot as hell, members passing the hell out, precision drills and marching. Dance routine not sloppy like I witness on television even from the band I admire but will not call any names out of respect for fellow band members, every dance routine I witness out of sync, too much dancing on their dance routine a mess, I remember the marching men of cook and grambling marching no women back in the 70 taking no prisoners man I miss those days, and ladies nothing against you but when men get together on one accord we don’t take no sh&t!!!!
Need to go get slim deac and cool breeze put them toes on the brick like doc Foster use to due in band camp keep the 90 up son the world watching can't imitate fraud

FAMU that long suspension killed the 100 and Dr. Foster’s legacy. Dr. White was the last to keep the band 💯 after the passing of Dr. Foster. This band is almost unrecognizable from the high stepping, show stopping, 400 +, 8 “tall” Drum Majors of the 90s - (date of suspension).
Nik Key The band was suspended for about 5 years, and all the original band administration was replaced due to the hazing death of Robert Champion who was a drum major at the time in 2010. The band was a major recruiting vehicle for the university itself, but once the band disappeared many musicians who were wanting to be in the legendary FAMU 100 went to other schools (ex: BCU, Alabama State) and the band lost it’s roots and was never the same band it was in the 90’s - 2010. They’ve been trying to rebuild ever since.
Glad I'm seeing the negative comments here because I was thinking that I was being too critical. Obviously not. That was just painful to watch. That one drum major looks like he was still wasted from partying the night before. And just when things possibly could start getting better the video ends. This was pretty sad.
The video was dope. Your shots were awesome. Too bad the band is super whack these days. I attended Cookman in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and that 100 was a force to be reckoned with. These kids today should be lucky to refer to themselves by the same name.
Got to give to our Black College marching bands they have style swag and they can put on a show that makes you move. I have not seeN that with the white colleges marching bands.
Ummmm. The uniforms are nice 👀👀👀. FAMU HAD the most intimidating drum majors EVER, that was lost. Head drum major was tight. Drum majors marching Corp style in the entrance but 2 were off step. Ladies breaking ranks in the beginning, NSU Spartan Legion Alum here. With respect I will say FAMU, get it together. 🤦🏾♂️
DM's on stadium entrance was sloppy...not in sync at all ! Nice uniforms though. And that one DM that couldn't hold stance smh. But when they snapped to go on the field...it was ON. The band, the cymbalists, etc. came to life. Even the drum majors was cranking it once they got on the field. The color guard, DM'S need a lotta practice and discipline. And why color guard up in front...DM ' s need some help on counts...need to hear percussion.

My HighSchool Band Director, Mr. R Williams, was straight from the FAMU Marching 100. . .There Was NOTHING High Schoolish about us! We were 'sharp and we STUCK our entrance (1966-67)! Used to sit on the grassy knoll over from Polkinghorne Village Student/Family Housing; above the Stadium with my friends and we'd watch the Marching 100 practice on the football field (FAMU Campus, Tallahassee, FL 1961-62)!
You come to present day FAMU to see what happens when u dojt have a drum major and just accept who ever comes to recruirltment. Come guy, the old FAMU WAS WAY BETTER

The Marching 100 is the first band I heard about when I moved to Florida. I need to see them at least once. I may go to the next classic.
The 100 used to be one of the best HBCU bands. This was painful to watch. The band is undisciplined and the DMs are apparently out of shape.

I was saying the same thing. As a former Head DM from the SWAC. he's very weak to be out front.
I’m not justifying his actions but it probably was nerve racking because he’s not the actual head drum major and was chosen on the spot.
They have too many anyway. I’ve never seen nor ever felt it necessary to have SIX! Why? That takes away from the prestige of the position. 🤷🏽♀️
