This video was shot an a Canon EOS 7d dslr and video camera.
some recent surfing at rincon... Trevor Gordon, Travers Adler, Brandon Smith, and Spencer Regan.
guest appearances by Kyle Albers and Chadd Konig.
technical information: filmed on a Canon EOS 7D with a 100-400mm lens & 10-17mm fisheye. edited in Final Cut Pro 6.
I LOVE that you've combined actual music with surfing. Really, if surfers had music like this in their heads they'd cut way down on jerkey wasted superficial motions.
Good for you!
For not the best surf, or shall I rephrase, not the best surf Rincon can produce. This still one of my favorite edits because of the music that perfectly emplifys the video. Great editing and thank you for appreciating classical. Keep up the great work
beautiful, bought back surfing Cal in Winter of 81
Thanks!
Yep, was there....from NZ
Travers Adler's recreation of Dora's moves is an absolute thing of beauty...a match for the courage in music selection - another thing of absolute beauty.
Nicely done...beautiful opening shots! Like the non-ciche music too, artistic.
Pure class. Love the music choice. Beautiful work.
nice to see a surf vid with good music
LOL at 4:08. Gets his leashed pulled. Great video man, truely captures the elegance and the various dynamics of surfing!
Uuuaauu! beautiful day, waves, surfers, music!!! have it all!! so nice!!
Very nice shooting brah! Rincon, such a great spot. The smell of the lemon flowers as you walk down the path mixed with smoke from beach fires. But still too damn crowded now and hectic for me I'm an old man. Very stylish surfing here on cool equipment - fish boards and single fins. Surfers like George Greenough always experimenting at Rincon. Has always been that way. I started surfing there in '64. Now I live in New Zealand. Reminds me of Dora - who I watched surf Rincon many times. Magic.
All time favourite surfing film...keep coming back. AND I have a download of the original with that French jazz toon! Permission to post it on Vimeo with all credit to you sir? Aloha!
Very nice. I especially liked some of the smooth soul arching rides..
excellent work man... music, footage, surfers... great vid!!
Perfection. Amazing video and music. Thank you!
yew! nice to see what the 7d can do in terms of focus pulling, panning etc. very tidy work. nicely shot & edited too morgan, but no surprises there. a lovely piece, super watchable. congrats mate.
Thank u man for put great classical music in your vidz... simply beautiful if u make a comparison with new electronical music in other big brand surfin video we can found here a little island of peace and relax ... a truly lil gem (also jardin d' hivier was amazing and with u i found those masterpiece!!!) Fabio...from italy
i have two questions.
1. Did you use a tripod
and
2. Did you just allow a large depth of field or were you manually focusing as they went down the line. If so, good job.
looks fun!
have you had any troubles following the rider with tehe focus? or have you been shooting with a deep DOF so you don't have to worry about the focus as much? the real 7D beauty comes with the shallow DOF!
This video makes me feel cozy
love the video, and love the song!! AWESOME
Great rez on the 7D but it takes a hi-perf Mac with extra RAM, video RAM and Final Cut pro to make best use of camera's features. BTW, music is great....where'd you find it?
That wave is so perfect men! I would love it to go there.. would enjoy it so much!
WOOOOH what an amazing piano peace, please tell me who's playing and the CD please.
Lovely from music and montage to feedback and technique sharing. Kudos on vibe. quid pro quo--lens naked? any filters/nd grad? mattebox? noticed in earlier comment no audi captured...have you worked with audio on 7D yet? bout to plunge...wanna be sure...how about handheld? thanks for sharing.
Did you get rid of your xha1? I kind of want to sell mine and get a 7d. Do you recommend the 7d? Your work still looks amazing. Great work.
I went down to Rincon last weekend with my 7D but there was nothing. I heard the week prior was insane .. looks like you caught a good portion of it!
very good video. the first two regular footers have very interesting styles
Wow! It's impressive how modern DSLRs can shoot video. I just got the 7D and the same 100-400 L lens. Do you feel it's light enough to carry it on handheld say... on a safari trip?
P.S.: Fantastic song choice! Le Jardin d'Hiver
...great edit with this piano soundtrack btw. Is the queen of the coast working today?
What do you do for a really windy day when the mist is up? Do you worry any about the salt corroding the camera? Any precautions?
hey man i like the video, whats the best way to keep a video in focus when filming surfing? do you focus on a certain point and then leave it there? or do u use MF or AF
Looks great. What was the frame rate you shot the piece with?
is this feature in the 5D mark II as well? or did it got introduced on the 7D?
Nice video btw.. i miss the west coast.... from gas chambers to domes... so on
its hard pulling focus on the 100-400 (which i borrowed from a friend and ultimately decided not to buy) but the 75-300mm is way more ergonomical for pulling focus with surfers.
wheres the old music??!!!
@movingsurfpictures sick movie but i keep comin back to hear this song. whats it called and who's it by?
awesome vid mate!! looks perfect the camera for video recording too....
Absolutely Beautiful.
best surf film ever
YES for every question asked... this camera is going to change the video world...
Any overheat problems in the beach? How much time you can record without heating?
feature... as in the video? Canon debuted its entry into DSLR video on the 5Dmk2, but it is severely crippled compared to the 7D.
Great video, one of my favorites for a long time, why did you change the song ?
i love this surf flick! its so tranquil.. can you please tell me the name of the song.
instant fave!
the 7d :)
panasonic hvx's and dvx's are incredible, too.
Sick video. what kind of board is trevor riding? so much style
impossible not to like! great video! thanks!
@bucran0 Music is Kantate mwv 147. Album: Kuschel Klassic 6
Nice waves. Antiquated surfing. Would be spot on if it was 1973.
I loved surfing Rincon!!!!
Great session man!!!! Badass
this is stunning ! :o
now i wanna learn how to surf !!
love it...love shooting rincon
Thanks. Good to know.
this right hander is pumping i wish we had it over where i live ! :)
you can change the aperture while recording. iso... i do not know.
Awesome. Come on down to Turks and Caicos with the 7D. - Nautique Sports
i mean I can't find the Jacky Terrasson song anywhere, does it even exist?
what is the name of the song, please?
very vice video very smooth music as well ..
Me in the middle walking out of the water at 2:27
can you tell me about BGM artist ?
i don't know the differences between the 5 different ones Canon offers... if i recall correctly the USM model has better build quality than most of the others.
the Queen of the coast
several hours of footage, shot over 2 days... probably 12gb on camera. but once the footage was uploaded, i converted it to Apple Prores422 for Final Cut Pro. that about quadruples the file size, to almost 50gb.
surfed here for the first time. gnarly!
Beautiful
Who's playing piano? SHould give music credits.
Bummer. I heard they weren't too weather proof. I'll probably get one of those hoodies I see on eBay for about $30.
those waves are dishin' out the stoke
That turn at 2:05 and the fall is best
i never tire of this clip, i hope the geezer who stole our laptops recently enjoys it as much as I do (yep I downloaded it looong ago)
why can't I find this song ANYWHERE!?
A-MAZING!
yes, i sold my xh-a1. getting that camera was a mistake in the first place; i've come to learn the panasonic HVX-200 is so far superior in ability, its tragic on Canon's behalf, because i really liked the XH-A1's build quality and ergonomics.
i recommend the 7d but not for all applications. lifestyle work, yes. action, maybe. surfing pushes it. field work with important audio capture - no.
thank you very much!
very nice and relaxing
footage great as ever, but preferred the previous music - French jazz i recall?
i'm working on one now... this is just an average session, so i posted it online.
4:08 leash pull???
@clarkewi good comment mate
@miamimouth
a french jazz cd i found at a garage sale
music pleaz ?????
yes
Great!
a t-shirt over the camera and UV filter on the lens keeps water at bay.
jacky terrasson's "le jardin d'hiver"
beutiful video!!!!
ferreals bro!!
i learned how to surf in rincon. scared the shit outta me the first day.
@nolifesurfer the crowd is insane on any swell at all. On a very good swell you may want to just sit back and watch, save yourself the embarrassment/ comments when in the lineup.
Jacky Terrasson, "Le Jardin d'Hiver"
er... none of that stuff. handheld is alright when you have support, in which case is the Zacuto Z-finder for me.
Im going out on a limb but it sounds like it could be Bill Evans. He sounded a lot like this.
trevor is americas answer to craig anderson
Okay, cool, thanks.
i wish i could... found the song in the bowls of my computer entitled "track 05"
travers adler has good style
very very nice
o shit. he changed the song. this is chopin nocturne.
