Abomination: Broken key; stun amulet because stuns are great, stun resist is good on a front liner, and -dodge is okay on someone with sustain
Antiquarian: Master's essence by a lot (fleet florin is good too); feather crystal because speed is great for setup
Arbalest: Medic's greaves (childhood treasure is better but rarer); Dismas's head since damage is great and -hp is fine on her
Bounty hunter: Hunter's talon, -8 dodge from focus ring is bad and the food consumed is only during camping and can be trinket-swapped; dazzling charm
Crusader: paralyzer's crest; ancestor's scroll (can be passed around during camp, unlike signed conscription)
Flagellant: heartburst hood; martyr's seal (flesh's heart and bleed amulet honorable mention), +hp and +speed when low make it easier to play around his gimmick
Grave robber: raider's talisman (letter opener honorable mention); Dismas's head (sun ring/surgical gloves honorable mention)
Hellion: heaven's hairpin; surgical gloves (she can hit the backline so extra accuracy is very important)
Highwayman: shameful locket; ancestor's signet ring, we really want defenses while riposting, +stress is okay because we don't take stress when we kill a stress caster with riposte
Houndmaster: evidence of corruption; ancestor's pistol
Jester: critical dice (dirge of the devoured honorable mention), not bright tambourine; Barristan's head because having a backup for dodge failing is good
Leper: fortunate armlet (berserk mask honorable mention); focus ring, accuracy and crit are great on him
Man-at-arms: tough choice here, but old unit standard (covers a lot of options); fortifying garlic
Occultist: vial of sand (demon's cauldron honorable mention); feather crystal (ancestor's ring honorable mention)
Plague doctor: blasphemous vial; feather crystal
Shieldbreaker: spectral speartip; ancestor's signet ring
    Vestal: salacious diary; ancestor's map

I don’t quite understand how a focus ring which you can easily get from apprentice bosses more or less guaranteed can be considered a late game item. For YT purposes he’s also mentioning a variety of different trinkets as showing Surgical gloves on every melee dps and Focus Ring on every DPS/stunner is not very entertaining. However, these two items are just amazing.
In before, apologies for the wall of text but I wanted to mention the reasoning behind some of the arguments so newer players reading this understand why some of the mentioned combinations in this video are subpar instead of me just saying - bad choice.
      Abomination
If you have Broken Key you have everything covered the stun abom would ever need and stun amulet is just not as valuable at that point as bringing more speed, defense or utility like scouting. Padlock of Transference is amazing on him as well.
      Antiquarian
One of the most versatile heros when it comes to trinkets and depends on what her role is for your group. Position 3/4 the extra healing is great. For a guard setup any extra speed is nice like mentioned. She’s a very good candidate for scouting trinkets as well. Carapace Idol is amazing in any area where you don’t necessarily want to use her Guard (Weald, Warrens) due to enemies Mark synergy.
      Arbalest
Medic's Greaves are amazing and always worth bringing when she’s support/dps. Dismas's head on the other hand is a big no-no. Her dodge is so low that she’s very likely to get hit by stress attacks and having +20% extra stress for neglectable +dmg when you will spend a decent amount of actions on healing is just a bad tradeoff. Anything with accuracy to guarantee the opener to land, speed, -% stress - Prophet’s eye is perfect here or a steady bracer in early game. Can also carry a support/scouting trinket.
      Bounty Hunter
Hunter's Talon is great. Dazzling charm is overkill as Flashbang already has 100% stun on the backline stress dealers. Feather Crystal is amazing on BH to give that bit of extra needed speed to hopefully go before the fast enemies.
      Crusader
Both mentioned items are great by themselves but the combination is lacking accuracy. If you miss, you might as well have 0% chance to stun and on veteran and champion enemies have a decent amount of dodge. Without any group accuracy buffer you need accuracy on trinkets if you want your crusader to land his skills consistently. Focus ring is very very good on him.
      Flagellant
I know he wanted to mention class trinkets but Flagellant’s class trinkets are just so so bad. You could say Bleed Amulet is like the class trinket he never had and it fits his kit very nicely. That aside, like with any dps, you want accuracy, optionally some crit and something for defense as he’s really not that tanky. Surgical gloves, Focus Ring, Ancestor’s Signet Ring. Combine with Feather Crystal, the mentioned Martyr’s Seal, Flesh’s Heart, Willbur’s Flag, Fortifying garlic or just a Bleed Charm. Book of Relaxation is an honorable mention as the -10% stress is great for Endure and you get some accuracy with it.
      Grave robber
Raider's talisman and letter opener (if you are lucky to get it during the normal playthrough) are great. But if you combine the Talisman with Dismas Head you’re literally begging RNGesus to get her killed. Better get Surgical Gloves, Ancestor's Candle/Pen/Signet Ring or a Legendary Bracer (usually meh but GR is so fast the -speed isn’t as impactful) or just a defensive trinket as she’s super squishy.
      Hellion
      Great combination
      Highwayman
Ancestor’s Signet Ring is amazing on HWM. Shameful Locket, on the other hand, is just as it’s name suggests a disgrace and is just a worse version of Focus Ring/Surgical Gloves. If you go with the mentioned items, you will walk around with +25% extra stress and literally screaming for an affliction. You can complete the CC set for the virtue chance otherwise it’s never worth using the Shameful Locket.
      Houndmaster
Evidence of Corruption is the best class trinket the HM has. If you have it, you can always equip it for normal dungeon runs without hesitation. Ancestor’s Pistol is a good combination, the +20% stress are not as bad on HM as on other characters as he has high base dodge and can disarm traps to reduce the extra stress. If you are playing him in the backline might as well put him on 4 and give Prophet’s Eye instead as it’s a better version of the Pistol.
      Jester:
Protection is indeed a very good stat on low hp heroes like Jester, Antiquarian, Occultist, GR and SB. The way the DD formulas work with rounding, a bit of protection is already amazing. Tough Ring is arguably a better defensive trinket than Barristan’s Head. Not only is it half the stress, but it’s also more survivability. On max level you’re getting +6 extra health on Jester on top of the 10% prot. You would need to get hit for more than 40 dmg at once to make the Head a better defensive trinket than the Tough Ring. If you have the Jester building, Heavy boots become also a better choice than Barristan’s Head. Critical Dice isn’t really a good choice as most of his turns are spend on buffing or stress healing. The best class trinket pairing for the Head would be the Bright/Dark Tambourine to counteract the extra stress.
      Leper
      Good choices here
      Man-at-arms
Really depends on what your MAA is supposed to do. If he’s on guard duty for certain encounters like Swine Prince or Prophet, go Heavy Boots/Tough Ring + hp or dodge. Otherwise he really needs accuracy so Focus Ring is amazing and a better combination with the Old Unit Standard. Feather Crystal also great on him.
      Occultist
The hardest part about Occultist is choosing the right combination of trinkets out of a pool of amazing choices. He’s also a very squishy character so when put him in pos 2, you’d ideally want some defensive item on him and some accuracy to reliably land the stuns on high dodge pos 3 targets. Ancestor’s Signet Ring is perfect for him as it helps with both areas. Ancestor's Pistol is also a great choice.
      Plague doctor
      Good combination
. The 25% extra stress are immense but hopefully going before the enemies with the Feather Crystal and stun BOTH backline enemies is a great tradeoff.
      Shieldbreaker
A very lategame setup, but also very strong
      Vestal
I’ve seen him bash Sacred Scroll in multiple videos and I don’t agree with him. In a playthrough on Bloodmoon and/or torchless this item is literally the best thing you can get from your early bosses. With double heal trinkets you will have barely enough single target heal to recover from non-crit dpser hits. The downside of -10% stun is manageable, the -33% dmg is whatever as the only situation where you want that dmg over stun is when you need to finish off a position 4 enemy with your Vestal going last in a round - and even with the -33% it’s usually still enough if she hits. There’s a reason this trinket was used in EVERY encounter a Vestal was brought during the world first deathless Bloodmoon torchless run by Adam Vs Everything.
Obviously, when you're doing less difficult content or a lower difficulty setting you can bring one healing trinket + utility but Sacred Scroll is still a safe choice.

The prophets eye is really good with blasphemous vial too. It gives minus stress, speed and even more accuratecy so she will litterally never miss. I guess +8 dodge could be good for survivability but it's not that significant

I run her with Sacred Scroll and Junia's Head. The scroll negates the extra stress from the head, the dmg trade-off is pretty bad, but it doesn't matter if you switch Judgement for Illumination (especially at high level), and I can live with -10% stun chance.
Her single-target heal becomes as big as Occultist and her AoE heal becomes as big as her single-target heal. At this point enemy damage becomes irrelevant because I can outheal everything :D

It's actually very interesting that a lot of the higher level trinkets have +stress as a drawback.
It kinda implies that at that level, you should have learnt how to manage stress effectively. If you don't take care of stress casters properly, the drawback can be really detrimental, but if you prevent stress damage consistently, it's basically a non-existent drawback for 90% of the time

Speaking of Baristan's Head: I've gotten Hard Skinned on Vestal and Occultist before. Throwing Baristan's Head on them made them damn near unassailable to anything short of a DPS crit or Treebranch. Worked better on the THICCultist IMO because I tend to keep him in rank 2 on a backline DPS or mark focused comps with Vial of Sand. Recommend giving it a shot if RNGesus gives him that quirk.

It's a named team as well. Vox Voyagers, I think. Anyway, with jester just as a buff monkey and stress healer, Vestal as the healer/stunner/ant-stealth, and the HWM and Hellian as Dps, they just crit for days. I took them through endless, and got like 198 kills, to wave 7 or 8. I finally stopped when they got too stressed out(due to bad luck, sadness). It was easily the best run of my life. So many crits. So much damage. What a team.

Regarding the Bounty Hunter's trinket Hunter's Talons, there's *one* situation where the +50% food consumed comes up outside of camping, I only found out very recently since it's a rare situation, as a result it barely changes the trinket's viability, but figured I'd mention it. When you get a hunger check and you have exactly the same amount of food as the check asks you, you won't be able to click the eat option without unequipping the trinket first, at least with a party of 4. Which means you might have to throw something away to make room to unequip it. Apparently the food required to click the option rounds up while the food that is actually consumed rounds down which causes this.

I like to give abomination recovery charm (the one with 40% heal received). In my opinion it is an OP trinket that must be brought to almost every mission and passed around among heroes because it boosts heals from food and camp skills, etc. Abomination is the best choice to carry it because it makes his on-transform heal so huge.

Hey Shuffle, great video. Glad to see you keep making videos for DD1 even after all this time.
Even though the Crusader rarely shines as a stunner because of his low speed, he can shine brightly against the Thing from the Stars. Did you know that the Thing from the Stars cannot automatically use Return from the Stars if it is stunned after performing its 2 actions already? Without Return from the Stars, bleeds and blights are not cured on the enemy, and you don't have to worry about hitting the Crystalline Aberration, which is great in terms of action economy.
Quick stunners have a high chance of going before either of the 2 actions from the Thing from the Stars. But the Crusader has a good chance of going last. So Paralyzer's Crest + Non-Euclidean Hilt is greatly helpful against his champion version but just the Paralyzer's Crest alone is good enough for his apprentice / veteran version.

this is my fourth time playing a new game on Darkest dungeon , and each time i try to do things differently , this time i went a very aggressive risky kind of play style, and surprisingly it's doing better than i thought , my main healing character is not a vestal it's a flagellant. and i only run him on the weald or the courtyard , but i don't care about the healing that much , i just focus on dealing damage as fast as possible , i run any trinkets with high acc and speed , i lock down traits that focus on those two as well , to the point i almost on end game now without having a vestal on my roaster , and i have only two champions who died , acc is very underrated if u don't miss ur attacks u have higher chances of surviving than having a healer that slows ur damage down and just gives the enemy another turn

Thanks for the video Shuffle! Although i have a question about one of your picks, you mentioned for Jester that the 25% Stress healing buff from the bright tambourine is irrelevant for him because it's a really small 2-points boost, but you picked ancestors scroll for the Crusader, wouldn't the 25% boost also be irrelevant for him as the base value is lower than Jester or it's just a matter that Crusader needs it more or Jester needs a build focused on support (battle ballad carry) rather than pure stress healing?

    • @ShuffleFM
      @ShuffleFM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The stress bonus is nice for crusader, sure, but the scroll is great for him specifically because of the hp healing boost as well. This gives inpsiring cry 2 bonuses and inspiring cry can also crit, which inspiring tune cannot. Then crusader's battle heal is boosted too, all for the cost of a negligible downside.

I slept on this game hard when it first came out and was all over Twitch, now I can't stop. I really appreciate your channel cuz I had no idea how to effectively use flagellant and anti, and now they're a couple of my favourite classes!
But for some reason, MaA still evades me. The only team that makes good sense is using him with anti for riposte, but I'd rather use Dismas for that. It's not that MaA's moves feel bad, it's that they all feel somewhat equal at a 6/10. I watched your guide, but it felt a little all over the place because that's the same impression I get from MaA.
Is he better with a group that could use the buffs to really have them shine, or should he just go with an already stable team and make them a little more consistent?

    • @flagellantbestgirl
      @flagellantbestgirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

the main appeal of man at arms is that guard is such a great contingency plan for shit going wrong that it's pretty hard to lose a hero with a maa on the team. Pair that with a very nice stun and a bunch of other skills with good uses and he's a really good class who fits in a lot of teams from ranks 1 to 3 and offering a lot of security. Bellow gives him a way to offer huge action denial potential on the next turn, and Crush is just average damage with high crit onto rank 3, which is always appreciated. As for his trinkets, he doesn't really need all too much apart from Speed imo, and you can pair that with stun/debuff chance or even Accuracy

For Vestal you can use tome of holy healing, chirurgeon's charm, or junias head if you can handle the stress. For HWM surgical gloves and ancestor ring are great vanilla replacements. For shambler the easiest thing to do is to fight it in apprentice. If you have some level 2 characters with level 2 or 3 stuff it should be a bit easier.

    • @windcarve8265
      @windcarve8265 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Flagellant caps out his deathblow resist at 80% ish with the martyrs seal. With the build shown in the video, on low hp, you can reliably get him to act first on the next round, thanks to the extra 4 SPD. And he has access to exsanguinate, which is a damaging skill WITH self healing. If it crits, it gives you huge value. There are also other smaller benefits to getting to death's door with flagellant, like aoe healing the rest of the party.
The fact that there is a small chance for him to die sucks, but that's darkest dungeon for ya.

    • @ShuffleFM
      @ShuffleFM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Wind Carve had an amazing response right there. The only thing I can add is that with some experience you can understand when flagellant is safe to drop to low hp or 0. At the same time definitely don't leave him at 0 to spam punish, that's the kind of greed that gets him killed. It's more of an insurance policy for big returns if he does hit 0.

This is an interesting list but it suffers from the constraint of using the class trinkets which IMO are rarely the best options except for some that are hard to get like CC & Farmstead trinkets. I would’ve liked to see you rank the best for each hero’s role & give an option without the DLC trinkets. For example, Occultist has 2 very different roles & even Vestal (for rank2 I’d use Profane Scroll + Salacious Diary). You could’ve done a melee & a ranged version for Highwayman & GR.
And I realize it might be boring to just repeat the best trinkets like Surgical Gloves, Crescendo Box, Signet Ring, Feather crystal, etc, but those ARE the best options in a lot of cases.
Lastly, might’ve been helpful for newbies to give basic advice like “when in doubt, just pair Sun Ring with a speed/ def trinket like Feather Crystal.”
