The bad thing about these Powkiddy products is they rarely, if ever, fix their software. What you see is what you get unless a community forms and starts making custom firmware.

Well, I guess handheld gaming PCs have been around long enough... It only makes sense that we're going to see them getting cheaper, and potentially more low effort now that the market has quite a few good ones. Cool review as always though!

Retroid and AYN got the best default android OS. Especially retroid where they even use custom gpu drivers for better performance during era of t618 devices.

I can see if you can get it for 140 or less you can fix the joysticks to hall effects. Something that not a lot of handhelds in the 160 range have. Then this system could be a good buy. The software could use some fine-tuning and if you are patient enough you might be able to fine-tune it. So yeah if it drops below 140 I might pick it up.

I originally thought this as well but I don't think you should buy a handheld and swap parts to fix it at an additional cost. That being said the rg556 is now an option as well for a large screen handheld

@@Guitario666 I can see your point. I bought a r36s for less than 40usd to add the Hall effect joysticks. Knowing the total it will still be less than a comparable unit with a joystick, especially with a hall effect joystick. But, I can understand that not everyone is comfortable with modding a new device. Now, I wrote that commit without knowing about the rg556 which I think is better than this device. But who knows what is gonna come out next year since every year better and cheaper handhelds are coming out.

@civilizedsasquatch6722 nice. It's fun modding and tweaking these emulators. I'm looking into modding the gcloud dpad when I get around to it. Ordered a bunch of different rubber membranes to see what works

    Thanks for the grad review!
    I have a short question becaus I couldn't find a solution.
I bought a X28 and I want to put some games on the INTERNAL Storage (64GB). When I connect the handheld to my PC, I can't see the storage from X28.
I checked all configurations but cant see any option to allow or disallow that connection/access.
Ho can I put Data into the internal storage from the X28?
    Thank you so much!

Plug into the OTG port, swipe down click the option that says charging this device, select media transfer.

Hey man question. Did you install the june update? If so can you tell me how? They removed the driver downloads and I cannot connect mine device to my computer because of it. Do you happen to have the driver files for windows?

Man, I hear so many complaints about Powkiddy device button quality all over the web. I must be ludicrously lucky or something because both my Powkiddy Q90 and RK2023 have excellent controllers. At any rate, this is unfortunate.
Not that I need anything with Steam Deck and RK2023 around, but I'd been eyeing this because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to play with that button mapping tool in games like Genshin... did you mess with the touch 2 key mapping at all?
Also do you have any plans to check out the Razer Edge?

I think it's a QC thing. You might just be lucky lol.

I've been lucky, too. My controls don't have the same problems and this thing rocks. Was also able to use Amazon Luna and had a great time with it

Oh, and my shoulder buttons work in Luna

@@ericjv41 I'm really curious about how well the mapping works, didn't get to see much of it here. Being able to make touch only games work with a controller is a very, VERY big deal for me. Also would be interested in knowing how (or if) button mapping persists when using an external controller.

@@ALionlikeMane I haven't messed around with the button mapping as it's all just worked on everything I've tried.

Have you considered any of the gpd handheld devices since there are versions with windows and android? I'm still waiting for a handheld gaming device that runs android but plays pc games like the asus rog ally but running android instead of windows and the pc games running natively running android similar to windows instead of using the cloud to play pc games. There are chromebooks that already support steam with certain models of chromebooks and google just needs release an update to play steam games on chromebooks. Basically android playing steam games natively since google works and partners with manufacturers. For example, a desktop build pc running Intel i9 14900k with the 4090 gpu or whenever the 5090 gpu comes out but running android instead of windows but dual boot android and windows. I don't like windows 11, I rather replace windows 11 and use android and have android do the same things as windows but driverless since android already supports plug and play devices that are driverless just like chromebooks. I use android, chrome os and windows. I use windows because I still rip cds and sync my music library playlist to my micro sd cards and media monkey can sync both from the internal and external storage devices. I also rip my physical copies of 4k, blu ray and dvd discs and sync them to my android phones. On amazon, there are dvd players that run android and the interface is like an android tablet. Alot of the things that I used to do on windows, I do now on android with the exception of the things that I already have described. With windows, I tried to download free apps without paying for anything, but they are only a 7 or 30 day free trials but on android with the same apps they are free and there are apks that I can sideload. With windows 11, when I tried to sideload the google play store and try to install the necessary google apps to get the google play store to work, nothing pops up and nothing works. I ended up sideloading an alternate app store to get the android apps that I was looking for.

Powkiddy is like the Yugo of the handheld world. I only buy from Anbernic or maybe Miyoo.
