Awesome ! I wish I could do this with my 81 vette. She's really starting to show her age so instead of always Putting band aide after band aide I should do the car justice and do a frame off resto. Cool for you my fello vette brother. Keep the posts coming. I love these videos.
Thanks for the video. I'll be replacing the mount bushings on an 81. It's a garaged California car with 50k miles, so I don't anticipate any rust issues. What needs to come off or be loosened to replace the bushings? Seems like I'll only need to lift the body an inch or so off the frame to allow removal and replacement. Thanks for any wisdom you can share.
You may be able to get away with not taking anything apart if your just going to replace the body mounts and not lift the entire body off the frame. Maybe just de-weight if there is no corrosion. Ive never done it this way though because we do full frame off resto's and refurbish the frame so everything I mentioned to chandler in the comments is what we remove here.
Besides AC, Brake Booster, and various wiring, what else needs to be disconnected before removing the body? Looking into doing an engine swap and minor changes to suspension on my 79
Sorry for the late response. I would remove as much as possible to lighten the car as much as you can. The weakest areas are the nose of the vette and tail end of the vette. The front will literally flop around without support because from the firewall forward there are no metal plates built in like in the mid section. So on yours I would remove the headlights and mechanisms. If you had a 68 to 72 Bumpers have to come off as they are attached to the frame and go through the body but you wont have to worry about that. Also, the steering will need to come apart. A common place to separate steering is at the steering cuppler. Speedo cable and tach cable if applicable. Heater hoses. Transmission where it comes through the floor - stick or auto. Throttle linkage. I think thats about it...
The one we use is from accessible systems. Unfortunately I don't believe its available for purchase anymore but it looks like AutoTwirler makes one: www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/autotwirler-auto-body-cart-pro-p/SFC-0211.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3KzdBRDWARIsAIJ8TMQIif-90d1sWE97quMA05P1NwM2nHlmw8zOhN4f_0lUMGqMIk5iC-saAtEzEALw_wcB I cannot however tell you if it is quality or effective due to the fact I have not owned it or used it.
Two options for powder coating 1.)www.profabcustoms.com/ 2.) www.vansteel.com/ The body dolly is no longer available that I bought, but there are other companies out there that make them. I just cant tell you whether they are good or not.

Oh and parking brake cable.
Sweet thank you very much
I am surprized they do not mention to keep track of the shims at each body mount location.
Good note
We bag and label them
