More than a quarter century after its release, this remains for me the definitive interpretation of the classic Van Morrison tune. I still remember the shock of hearing it and the other songs on Blue Light 'till Dawn: here was a young singer already standing on the same creative plane as the greatest jazz vocalists of a generation or more past, but bringing with her a completely fresh vision--including a wonderfully expanded sense of the range of tunes out of which one could make great improvisational music. It was, and remains, a thrilling album, and this is one of its most indelible tracks.
I used to listen to this when I was studying Jazz in college back in the mid nineties. Floored by her uniqueness. I've bought and given away several copies of the Blue Light til Dawn cd this was on. Pleased as shit to have found this video as I still talk about this song and great performances when discussing great music.
