ABOUT SATURN AS A 'GRAHA' ('SHANI DEVA')
Astronomically, Saturn is the planet that is almost at the end of the solar system. Yes there are other planets that come beyond it but they're much further away in proportion to the inner planets one the other side of the asteroid belt and then the gas super giants that are Jupiter and Saturn.
In the solar system, Saturn actually plays a huge rule in protecting the Earth from vagrant asteroids that can smash into it and end all life. Saturn's gravitation is in many ways a protective shield for the inner solar system.
In 'Vedic' astrology, Saturn or 'Shani' is the planet of hard work, struggle, stamina, resilience, business and discipline.
Saturn can be a very restrictive planet as it teaches through difficulties and often gives the native many problems in the area of life represented by the house that Saturn sits in. This is why most people hope to have Saturn in a good placement and giving good results otherwise they fear bad things might happen to them. At the very least, with a tough Saturn placement, people expect a tough life.
See 'Shani' is the 'deva' of justice and order. That is why it is famously said "Saturn delays but never denies."
SATURN MAHADASHA
This 19 year period of Saturn in the birth chart, signifies a time of hard work, self improvement, discipline, lack, responsibility but above all .... strength building.
Saturn periods are periods of immense opportunity of growth albeit through tangible, physical means. Saturn can create scholars too sure. However Saturn's energy is primarily one of focus on the ground level, base level, grassroot level of development.
So it seeks to delay to the individual the actual happiness, recognition and realization of their highest potential, pushing them to perfect their skills and overcome karmic problems.
Why is that?
That's because Saturn wants the individual to succeed in the 'long term'. There is a reason that Jupiter 'mahadasha' precedes Saturn and Mercury 'mahadasha' comes after it.
Jupiter signifies opening opportunities as a way of teaching the native how to be hopeful.
Saturn signifies closing of unnecessary doors to force the individual to focus on what they are the best at.
Mercury, to top these two off, signifies the development of new skills and insights to make sense of what is for real and what isn't. What is 'practical' and what is no matter how brilliantly thought out.. merely 'hopeful'.
Saturn 'mahadasha' seeks to give a shape to the individual's ambitions by directing the native towards his or her greatest gifts. He does so by closing other doors so that the native may actually work 'hard' on something to create something.
It's not surprising that many of the wealthiest individuals in the world have a high resonance with number 8 energy. Makes sense too doesn't it? When/how do you master the art of money?
It's through serving: By creating a product or service that is useful.
It's through persevering: By improving your efficiency, discipline and having the gut for competition and survival.
Finally, it's through outlasting: Wealth is created by above all, leaving a legacy and taking advantage of the man made systems of wealth and asset creation. It's through mastering what is 'compound interest', 'trade' and 'economics' that you are able to build a sizable fortune.
Saturn wants everyone to be fortunate.
His only condition is that he's going to make you WORK for it.

Hi sir.. I was about to complete my saturn mahadasha in August 24. I'm 27 yrs old.. My saturn is in 1st house.. I could tell you that I have most difficult childhood... Financial trouble.. Lost my grand father and father... Im also late born.. So already have so much pressure on myself.. Cleared CA with lots of hard work.. Im also facing health issues.. Lost my both kidneys.. Im on dialysis from past 2 yrs.. Im gng through sade sati also.. My sankat dasha is also happening all together.. May be because of all these I'm facing so many troubles.. Hope my mercury dahsa brings lots of positivity.. At the end of the saturn mahadasha I could simply say I became so tough that I can handle anything.. Became so down to earth... Zero ego.. May be because of debilitated sun.. Very humble and to be grateful for everything I have.. That's all I can say.. Thanks😊

My Saturn conjunct Mars is in the ascendant, Scorpio.. Moon conjunct with Mercury & Venus in Pisces.. Presently undergoing the Saturn sade sati and man am i feeling it's heat in all aspects of my life (professional, personal, marital). it's keeping me on my toes especially in terms of land and property. childhood too was a very extremely hard one.. it's made me just like you said - "a tough cookie".

I have spent my whole life in saturn mahadasha. It started in 2005 when i was in 5th standard. Now i am 30 and it’s going to end in August this year. I also have saturn moon conjunct in aquarius in my 9th house. I am gemini ascendant. Currently going to sade sate and saturn retrun in saturn mahadasha.
Feels mentally unbearable. Never felt this challenged and saddened by life.
