No game will ever be like OG FF11. No other game absolutely hated the player, no other game ruined your life, and no other game gave you so much satisfaction. Nothing will ever come close.
This applies to FF11 today as well. Yes, a lot has been streamlined and made way more convenient, but you still feel that the game absolutely hates you at times (REMA Weapon/ARE Armor grinds and upgrades, Losing hours of grinding work when you die at ML30+, farming for a Pulse weapon... etc). And still, no other game is as beautiful as this one. As for the ruining your life part, it's still pretty damn addictive.

@@Malacite because of games like xiv and Dissidia, I became interested in ffxi. Took me three tries to get past lv 15 over the decades (first try back in high school I just never understood partying was required). Third time's the charm. It's taken me awhile, but I finally got to see this cutscene. Xiv is still my number 1 FF, but Vana'diel is definitely my other fave world to exist in.

Finally worked my way through the story and saw this in game for the first time the other day. I love this world. I wish it would get a facelift, for its graphics and its engine both. I don't want Vana'diel to ever die. This world is too beautiful. I find myself humming this tune all the time when I'm on my own...

I feel your pain. It's been nearly 8 years since I played and I still cherish every memory. Running through the dunes with a horde of goblins that didn't disappear when you zoned! Those were the times.
I still remember losing my mind over this back in the day. I believe it's implied that Ulmia is singing this ? CoP was the very last project that the old Chrono Trigger team - now Monolith - made for Square.
Such a shame that most people outside of the XI community didn't even know that this is the original version of the song. Most people have mistakenly attributed Distant Worlds to Susan Calloway. This or Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, though?
I'll never forget the joy I felt, after over a year of trying in FFXI's prime at Lv75 cap... before they uncapped CoP zones and fights. The struggle, the blood and tears that were shed trying to complete this expansion. I finally did it, it's over... but an adventure it has been.
Just finished Chains of Promathia misson 8-4 and got the Distant worlds cutscene on Eden private 75 era server, even after finishing it 10 years ago on the retail version this song never gets old.

XI's game world was **SO** much more significant than XIV's. Sucks, I get why it has to be that way designed as it is but I'd love to have another MMO where the world was the primary content.
