  • Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced a suite of new policy proposals aimed at gender identity and transgender youth, triggering political shockwaves across Canada. Some of the proposed changes impact gender-affirming medical treatments for minors and pronoun changes at school.
'The West Block' guest host David Akin speaks in an exclusive one-on-one with Premier Smith about what prompted her to announce these LGBTQ2S+ policy proposals, her government’s plan for sex education in schools, the potential use of the notwithstanding clause, and more.
Plus, Akin interviews Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault, the only Alberta MP in PM Trudeau’s cabinet, for the federal reaction. Minister Boissonnault also discusses Liberal Party ads comparing Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to former U.S. president Donald Trump.

Why is Global News so concerned about 0.33% of the population (supposedly trans-gender), when about 25% of the population in Canada cannot get a "family doctor"? Strange priorities?

The question is - why are Conservatives so obsessed over .33% of the population - and bent on attacking the human rights of the LGBTQ+ community - creating aa wedge issue for political gain? Good people don't spend their time harassing marginalized communities.

      Very interesting comment Mike.
-the minority in this case is a sliver of what people think the minority actually is.
-l’ll take care of you and keep you safe” is what FAMILY and Friends are for.
-“This” government is primarily focused on spycological and psychological oversight than practical oversight. This redundant “keep you safe” slogan is insulting considering their policies and interactions with average citizens, every time. Their motives are now twice removed from the well being of citizens. Quite clear.
-“governments used to take care of roads and bridges”, this ties in to point 2, the level of encroachment this government has taken liberties with, is violating the fundamentals of this country time and time again.
As far as the topic of this video,..
Danielle Smith is on the right side of history. See 2023 interview with Chris/kristin Beck. A brilliant and accomplished mind, with first person long-term insight, experience and hindsight with this exact subject.
We need to start being more friendly to strangers.
We need to properly govern our government for it to properly thrive in its purpose.
We need our sovereignty as a republic.
We need less division, more importantly we need to identify who and what is creating and paying for the deception and diversions that distract and frustrate us all.
We need to stand behind authentic leaders.
We should not vilify the wealthy and successful, in fact we should show them how to profit from the betterment of the average Canadian. Teach them what the already know. That the quality of life for EVERYONE matters. We’re all connected. Bless you all

No, controlling parents is how you destroy relationships between parents and their children. Parents who insist on their children being who Mom and/or Dad want instead of allowing their child to be who they want to be are the problem. If you can't accept that any child you raise could be nonnomative, then you shouldn't have kids, because you'll be a horrible parent.

The gay cabinet minister is making a mistake in not recognising that the trans movement is diametrically opposed to being gay or lesbian. In the UK and New York, LGB people and trans activists are in serious opposition to each other. The alphabet soup is artificial and not natural. Children behaving in a gender non-conforming way does not mean they are trans. Most grow up to be gay or heterosexual. What Danielle Smith is proposing is just what European governments have come to realise as making sense.

The parents are already very involved in the process. She is, throughout this conversation, very misleading about the facts and purposely spreading misinformation about the entire process as a whole, and what being a trans kid means. Trust me, no one can just go out and get testosterone. It is a very hard process already with long wait lists to even consult someone. The parents also have to be heavily involved. She is spreading fear not facts. Trans kids just wanna live and be accepted. Trans people are not just some political agenda, they are people. They should've never become these politicians' political agendas. By banning puberty blockers, which can prevent the need for chest surgery in the future, she is, I kid you not, forcing Trans kids to have to have future chest surgery, when they could've avoided the need by taking puberty blockers. Puberty blockers are completely reversible, but to be used, you must start them before you go through puberty, or they are useless, and her ban of them until the age of 15, is the same as banning them entirely. They need to be started before not after puberty. All they do is delay puberty until the kid is more sure about the type of puberty they want to go through. It is a completely reversible medication, as once off of puberty blockers, the patient goes through a completely normal puberty. Please I beg you to actually listen to the Trans community. I often feel discouraged about people who have such a different idea/understanding of what being Trans really means, and I don't know how to talk to them. I understand to you that this seems like an attack on children, but please just search around a bit more elsewhere. Maybe meet some Trans people in real life instead of looking at things only from online. The Trans people I know are all really nice, funny, and accepting. I am actually Christian myself, and I believe that God make Trans people as they are for a purpose, and that he loves them as they are. God made Trans people as they are. He also said to love your neighbor, so please before you make a judgement, get to know your "Trans neighbor". You can hate me, hate what I've said, but I really just wish you'll look at things a bit differently, and maybe check out what being Trans really means to a trans person. See why so many people are upset about these policies. Please, really. I don't know how to reach you with my words, how to convince you to look at things a second time, but I beg you to try. Please try and understand your "Trans neighbors" A bit better. Whether you agree with me or not, please just open your heart a bit to the idea of accepting and loving your "Trans neighbors". I know what I'm saying may not make sense to you, but please, if you start to understand the Trans community and their allies a bit better, maybe what I'm saying will make more sense. I fear the effects that these policies will have on people I know, and I think closing this gap created by politicians is the first step in moving forwards with a better closer understanding of eachother. Please consider listening

I never in 1 million years I thought I would ever say I agreed with Danial Smith about anything.
I do believe she does have a valid argument regarding hormonal treatment of children.
If an actual case involving a child that absolutely has to change that procedure needs to be approved by a panel of physicians that have expertise into child psychology or related relevant fields.
The potential of harm coming to an individual that went through such a process as a youth would be incredibly detrimental, and I’m sure there’s going to be a percentage of folks that undertook this procedure as a youth ended up, changing their mind somewhere in life.
Irreparable harm this could inflict an individual would be absolutely devastating and beyond life changing .
I don’t think children are aware of the gravity of such a large situation, and I do think a lot of parents do get involved in this decision more than they should, including some of them that obviously sent from Munchhausen syndrome .

These neglectful parents need a law to help them to know what they are supposed to do anyway? Also most supportive, active parents of lgbt+ children are never surprised by their kids telling them this bc they were paying attention.
