MR. BOJANGLES
(Jerry Jeff Walker)
I knew a man Bojangles and he'd danced for you
In worn out shoes
Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants
He did the old soft shoe
He jumped so high
Jumped so high
Then he'd lightly touched down
I met him in a cell in New Orleans I was
Down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
As his spoke right out
We talked of life
Talked of life
He laughed and slapped his leg instead
He said his name Bojangles and he danced a lick
Across the cell
He grabbed his pants for a better stance
Then he jumped so high
And he clicked his heels
He let go a laugh
Let go a laugh
Shook back his clothes all around
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance
He danced for those in minstrel shows and county fairs
Throughout the south
He spoke in tears of fifteen years
Of how his dog and him
Had travelled about
But his dog up and died
Up and died
After twenty years he still grieves
He said I dance now at every chance in honkytonks
For drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
Cause I drinks a bit
He shook his head and as he shook his head
I just had to ask him please - please
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance
Dance
Please Dance
This song cheers me up as my life is
I love this
reminds me of days gone, by 😢
Areal classic. Why hasn't this story ben told in movie form? Maybe I'll writ it. I have a very very strong feeling Mr. Bojangles is dancing in a heavenly place.
You're so right E.G.
I remember Swaggies as we in Australia called Hobos, coming around when I was young, mum gave them some food and sent them on their way, not much as we didn't have much.
Thanks for sharing.
Good morning, my mother use to set up a table outside and feed anyone who came knocking asking for food. This day I will do the same.
Amen
Einfach wunderschön!!!
Danke Karina.😊
Thanks for keeping Jerry Jeff Walker's Mr. Bojangles song alive. Excellent job, I loved the days when songs told a story. Jerry Jeff had quite a few, John Prine, Tom Waits, Dylan too.
Thanks for the kind words Ted. You're so right about the story telling singer songwriters. I'd add Gordon Lightfoot to your list.
I remember the LAST true hobo... Lived to see this man, in many mens eyes and hearts. Great song
When I first recorded this song I said, "Mr. Bojangles is part me". I think everybody has a bit of him.
I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it which was many years ago. Red Skelton did a skit on his show where he was dressed up in clown make up 🤡 and danced to this song. I have heard it many many times since then. One of my favorite versions of this song is played by David Bromberg. I totally relate to the line "his dog up & died, and after 20 years he still grieves". I lost my dear sweet Jenny back in March 2011, over 13 years ago & I still grieve for her everyday. 🐶💔😥🐾🙏🏻🌈
This song touches many of us in many different ways. Thank you for sharing your story Mark.
I have heard this song many many times but when he talks about his dog up and died l cry
Mr. Bojangles story touches us all in different ways. Hopefully after you wipe off your tears, you're left with a smile on your face knowing you felt his positive presence.
Ty for your reply all true 😊
I've cried a lot, over my dogs that have died. All such good dogs. Good to my children and grandchildren. Last one worked with me for all her life. 😢 😢😢
I teared up listening to & watching Sammy's version because it was him. I teared up watching & listening to this version because this representation WAS Mr Bojangles! Awesome.
2004mojo, that is the greatest compliment you could possibly give. Sammy gave Mr. Bojangles soul and meaning. I attempted to do the same with my imagery. I'm grateful that you felt his presence. Thank you.
@@theonlyOldBlue Awww thank you for that! 😊Liked & subscribed.
I remember seeing Sammy perform this on the Fip Wilson Show.
Even as a kid, I knew that that was an important moment in television.
Love
@@theonlyOldBlue growing up in the Midwest, one wouldn't think of a similar character to Bojangles. But I can say as a witness to the fact, I met what I always will believe to be Mr. Bojangles.
He was a curly headed African-American man that came into a small bar / tavern near the Livestock complex in Sioux City, IA . His clothes were as clean as he could've gotten them yet tattered and torn from the life he lived as a homeless man. He wore a bass drum on his back, cymbals between his knees, a wash board off of his right hip, a harmonica with the headgear , and played a Dobro steel bodied guitar that sounded amazing even when it was out of tune. He'd toss his hat on the floor and go into a dancing singing and playing like you wouldn't believe. I'm rambling but anyways , thank you for taking me back to a time when race was evident but not a problem, when men were still men , and women were the finest, and there wasn't alot of hatred amongst people.
Listening 🎶 again❤ makes me shed a 😢 every time ...
That’s because your heart is filled with compassion Gloria. Welcome back.☺
Listening 🎶 Again, right this minute ❤
Y not alone x
Listening 🎶 again ❤😢 and singing along...❤
I can hear you Gloria.
To live is 'to dance with life'!
Well said.

Dancing with life
This is great, I love it being a Boomer I grew up with these songs heard from a radio on the tractor. I guess those were the days, thanks for sharing.
A Boomer on a tractor? My kind of guy. Glad you liked it Junior.
No tractor, but yeah, The music a person attaches, is attracted to as a teenager stays deep in the soul, heart, mind. *(pick your word ) Done also by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?
Yes, I remember. I was like 5 years old. My grandmother played this song along with Nat King Cole Ramblin. Rose brings back a lot of memories.
The story of Mr. Bojangles is really touching. It tells a story of life. 💦😥😪
Yes, it has long been a favorite of mine.
I love this song. Thee founders of Bojangles Chicken, got thier name from this song, homemade from scratch biscuits 😋 👌 😍 😀 🙌.
Sounds delicious.
😊
😊
Truly grow up with this song.

Amen words.
I'm glad it brought back some memories for you.

🥰🥰💝💝💝
Bojangles...dances the life!
Yes ..
Such beautiful man
You are so right.
This was done so well...reminded me of when Sammy D. does this song too!!
Thank you Nina. Sammy gave Mr. Bojangles "heart and soul". I attempted to take that "heart and soul" and bring it to life.
Absolutely loved it🎼🎼🎼🎼
Thank you Thomas.
Awesome !! Thank you so much for sharing. ....I think there is a little Bojangles in Everyone. .....Namaste
You're so right and thank you for subscribing!

Thank you. This song has always been special to me.
I remember this song I sing it in a little folk house in tagbilaran city Philippines, way back early 80's,i was 20 years old then, now im 62 years old..the song is still playing in the air ...
Yes ... song can be important "bookmarks" of our life.
Beautiful recorded and fantastic video , says it all 🙏🙏.
Thank you Phil. It comes from the heart.
very lovely singing thank you
Thank you so much @ausblue1
Such a beautiful spirit!
I did my best to capture him Sharon. The song always spoke to me.
So lovely🎉❤
Thank you Theressa.
Great version and I know this is irrelevant but mr bojangles was a white man who had 1 leg shorter than the other that as a child looked like he was dancing when he walked. After years of alcohol abuse he became a street performer and I met him in jail ...as told by Jerry Jeff Walker (writer of the song) also told during David Brombergs live version on YT
Good story Steven.
White cultural appropriation for sure
I'm so glad you've told this, as i never felt Jerry's version was a black man. I hope to find a good illustration.
One of my favorites ! Like every artist that did this song ! Sammy did a really good job singing it ! 😢
I agree!
Hey! Nice job! Great voice! :)
Thank you. It's the one that was given to me.
Very Pleasant 🎉
Thanks William. Sorry it took so long to get back to you - I've been traveling.
❤😢
Just watching this after watching Sammy do it. Love the different upbeat rhythm in this version mate.Almost a tad Parisian.
Thanks. I've long admired Sammy's version. He captured the heart and soul of this song. I'm glad my version spoke to you in some way.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the illustration, I'm hunting down a good piece for wall art.
Thank you Beverly, I worked hard on them. Good luck with your selection. If you don't mind sharing, I'd be curious as to which one you select.
Well done… loved it!
Much appreciate it Greg
Thank you 😊🙏🏻 - - a beautiful rendition.
Well done 👏🏻☺️
You know… I have this theory about the most beautiful songs… they have a way of capturing both happiness and a touch of sadness in the same song. “Yesterday”, “American Pie” come to mind - - and of course this song. Great work!
What you are saying is how some music can trigger your emotions. I'm so glad that my rendition was able to touch you in some way. Thank you for your comment.
@_Breakdown I agree with you about all 3 songs. I'll add one of mine. "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg
@@2004mojo ABSOLUTELY (as well as the original auld Lang syne!)
@@_Breakdown All these years I still cry at the end of "It's A Wonderful Life" when the friends & family sing the song. 😅
@@2004mojo haven’t seen that movie in ages - - but there are some GREAT versions of it on TH-cam. 🙂
Loved it
Jerry Jeff Walker wrote a great song. I'm glad you liked my version.
Bo remind me of my own daddy he wasten a drunk he drink jacks beer but he was all ways laughing and cacking jokes and talking about dancing at my wedding and i wood get mad and say i aint having no wedding i woulden marrie one of those things thats what i called mens but they called me thats too and. My daddy wood call me pumkin and read the good book and sing he old songs about rivers and dreams that never came true he was a all right dad.❤.

Great! Where did you get the images from?
Sharon, I created the images with AI assisted photography. I'm glad you like them.
I❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I ❤ you back Kathleen.
I love to❤❤❤❤
This just showed up on my TH-cam feed. Since I have always loved this song, I thought I'd give this version a listen. What a pleasant treat. This is wonderful Old Blue! I will be playing this on a loop. Do you have more goodies out there for our ears?
Thank you, Glenda. This is one of my favorite songs too. As for "more goodies", please go to my Old Blue TH-cam page and start the playlist. Most of my videos are of my original music and I'll let you be the judge if they are "goodies".
Thank you. I'd love ❤️ that !!
Great job on the Ai. I could tell because it still struggles with meshes and fingers. But I really enjoyed what you did here.
Thank You. When I'm expressing myself musically, it can be a great help in assisting me visually.
@@theonlyOldBlue the AI will catch up to doing things like fingers and faces perfectly, give it time.
I'm a patient man@@e.g.israel5572. Thank you for your encouragement.
