In this episode, we discover a hog standing on our driveway which means our electric fence must not be working. The hard part is doscovering why the fence isn't working. There is a process I go through to troubleshoot the fence and track down step by step the issues that could be causing problems.

Thank you for this video, I reviewed and reviewed again. I was able to troubleshoot my electric fence, the charger as well. Now I have goats and pigs romping around in my pasture.

According to Zareba, here's how to test ground.
Use the following steps to test the grounding.
• Place a piece of metal such as a crowbar or shovel against the fence wire to short the fence.
• Using a fence tester, put the probe into the ground and place the hooked end of the tester on top of one of the ground rods. Is the fence tester reading above 400 volts?
o Yes - Additional grounding should be added. We recommend a minimum of three ground rods, 6-8 feet deep spaced 10 feet apart.

I have had nothing but trouble with those cheap yellow insulators.. constantly breaking. Even the more expensive black one's break all the time . I have started making my own...much cheaper and much better. Out of pvc. And I took up all the time post . And replaced them with wood . I am gonna replace the whole system with plastic post probably with pvc except for my corners and beef them up...
