I am a die hard Sabres fan and what is happening is not good. Especially when the GM is not doing anything but making excuses. Probably the owners are part of the problem.
First thing they need is a restructuring of the front office hierarchy. The guys on the THN podcast a couple of years back pointed out that ownership hassles the GM all the time, and what they need is a separate President/Head of Hockey Operations who can serve as the buffer between the mercurial whims of the Pegulas and the GM, allowing the latter to work in peace. Next, the team needs to invest in its own internal infrastructure. Hire the best trainers, chefs, etc. The Rangers' players pay the same amount of taxes (MORE, even), and the team is ruthless to players (Trouba, Goodrow, etc.), and the team goes through its ups and downs (e.g., their current crappy run, the rebuild from a few years ago, etc.). Yet players still wanna come here (with Cam Fowler even begging to be the return in the Trouba trade). Why? Because the facilities are first class, the team travels in relative luxury, etc. Meanwhile, during an Alumni night a few years back, the Sabres' front office was so cheap and disorganized, they couldn't get quality jerseys for Alumni night and had to go to a sporting goods store to buy cheap knock offs with the names misspelled. This might seem petty, but players notice this shit and talk to each other all the time about it. Finally, the team has to stop taking a risk adverse path to building the roster. Growth from prospects is rarely linear, and without direction from more experienced players, prospects just learn how to lose. Take big swings with trades, and yes, even overpay for veteran talent (especially in goal and on D). These investments arent' sound long term, but right now, the long term is TOO long in the Erie Valley; build a winning culture now.
Sabres fan here. Its bleak. They give you a little bit then pull the carpet out from under. It’s going to be a long season. At this point, I’m just getting ready for pegula to either sell and the new owner move the team.
My family cancelled our season tickets a few years ago. 2 years ago there were atleast fun to watch. Now its just not worth the money. They cant play at home which is pathetic. The building isnt even half full. What is the pressure to high...
"The team has a spiritual problem" This is a remarkable statement Why? 1. Its spot on and very close to the truth 2. I have not heard that distinction given to a sports team with as many problems as the Sabres have. The reality is, Adams was a terrible hire from the get go! He had no business being given the keys to the Kingdom with zero GM experience. I was so mad when Pegula made this decision. Sabres really need a bonofide Hockey GM who can come in and straighten out this team. The longer Peguala allows Adams to control the reins of this team, the worse its going to get. Going back to the spiritual problem again, even though I am Christian, I am a strong believer in karma and this team has some demons to exercise. First lets start with the a$$hole Larry Quin back in the day when the Sabres had John Muckler who essentially built the Stanley Cup teams of 90's, where Regier and Ruff took credit after running Muckler out of town. Then lets not forget the ownership problems with the Riga's fraud and the cheapness of Galisano era's. Then comes Pegula all teary eyed and nostalgic making promises to restore the wonder years of the French connection by making everyone believe that he was determined to bring Buffalo a Stanley cup. There is nothing in the present day tense to believe that this team is any closer to realizing that goal. There is a lot more drama in between the benchmarks I just laid out but that its too much to list here, so I will end this mini rant with one more example. The Sabres blew the one opportunity they had when they gave the "C" to Jack Eichel instead of Ryan O'Reilly who was on the team prior to Eichel's arrival which was essentially a slap in face to ROR. Ryan O'Reilly was a vocal leader in the locker room who ran counter to the Woke culture of the front office of the Sabres when expressing his frustrations for not making the playoffs and mismanagement of the team in general. Needless to say he ruffled a lot of feathers and so they ran him out town as well for a song and a bird. Eichel? Well we know how that story played out too. The point is this team and its organization is a total joke that has too much baggage of bad Karma to overcome their negative vibe, or spiritual problem if you will and until Pegula wakes up from whatever spell he is under, decides to grow a pair and fire Adams, then the same results are going to continue to manifest. Another wasted season is too much to allow Adams to continue as GM for this team. Fire Adams! Please please please, God make it so!
Im not a sabres fan, but ive enjoyed watching them the last few years. Lots of young talent. But something is not quite right. I think thee might of mismanaged a few things. As to whos to blame. Id say either ownership or the gm. Or both. I feel bad for sabres fans..no fan base deserves the lack of success all these years.
It’s not a rebuild anymore. It’s been the same crap for years. SO many Sabres vets went on to LEAD other teams to cups (Ryan O’Reilly, Sam Bennett, Jack Eichel and a few others I can’t think of right now). It’s not Buffalo, it’s the Sabres
you know its bad when 25 games in the GM has a presser to discuss the state of the team. (sigh) i really thought this team was going to be good this year but like always they're a big disappointment. I've been a fan of this team since 2006 how I wish the Ryan Miller, Jaro Spacek, Thomas Vanek, Danny Briere, Chris Drury, Maxim Afinogenov, Tim Connolly, Jay McKee days lasted longer...RIP Sabres.
As a Sabres fan we are laughing at this clown. I went to the game after he said this and countless people were wearing palm tree outfits and had inflatable palm tree floaties. It was a disgusting thing to hear form your GM. We as Sabres fan want him gone. We are beyond tired of the bs of not success and then to hear that from your gm is ridiculous.
they didn't need to draft owen power, they already had dahlin as the #1LHD, they need a superstar up front or a RHD, not another left handed Defenceman.
How many people actually saw this interview though? I, too, had only heard the headline and so I just went and watched the interview now. What he's really saying is that they need to EARN the respectability. Yes, he mentions the problem of taxes and climate, but then points out that if you start winning, those problems go away. He even cites the BIlls' successes in attracting players. It may be a bad sound-byte out of context, but nothing Adams said is wrong at all.
Went to the game tonight. The atmosphere is so sad, depleted and pathetic. Theres no kids anywhere marking out at exciting fun players. Unless youre going to see an opposition team, theres no reason to go to a Buffalo hockey game
This team has Bills Mafia as its fan base. Buffalo deserves better. Some of it is on the players. These people just lie down and die and can’t protect a lead. At this point, Game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals seemed like cupcakes compared to the hellish period that the Sabres fans are dealing with.
Damn bruh why you gotta do winnipeg like that
"not a destination" bro you are in new york
I am a die hard Sabres fan and what is happening is not good. Especially when the GM is not doing anything but making excuses. Probably the owners are part of the problem.
Minesota has been carrying $14.7 M cap penalty for years. Taxes, no palm trees.
The Buffalo Sabres are the Cleveland Browns of the NHL.
Despite Pagula save the Sabers to avoid move to Hamilton in 2011, I still blame him for focusing too much on Bills more than Sabers!!!
Ryan Miller, Donald Audette, Thomas Vanek...
Completely agree.......i would just add the Sabres do have a President/Head of Hockey Ops, her name is Kim Pegula. 👍👍🤣🤣
Or both.
I feel bad for sabres fans..no fan base deserves the lack of success all these years.
the sabers are basically a player development camp at this point
@eck we are staring a fan rebellion, the palm tree movement, we need your support 🌴
My friend made a PowerPoint presentation in grade 6 (5 years ago) on how bad the buffalo sabers afe
There is only 2 reasons to make a comment like that
1) you're trying to get fired
2) you've already been fired
Watching this right after they blew a 5-3 lead to the Red Wings is so fitting
Buffalo is the Edmonton of America and Edmonton is the Buffalo of Canada
They should’ve spent money on free agents instead of a new roof and scoreboard which they said would help with future success.
wouldn't mind seeing Buffalo move to Wyoming, would be kinda fitting!
I feel for JJ Peterka
This video describes about half the league, definitely not just Buffalo.
Maybe had they handled eichel better more players would trust management
they didn't need to draft owen power, they already had dahlin as the #1LHD, they need a superstar up front or a RHD, not another left handed Defenceman.
Lindy Ruff is the only one in the organization that is getting mad at the on-ice product and we are diehard loyal to him as a result of this.
Fire Kevyn Adams and make Ruff a Coach-GM this year.
Not sure what more you could want from the Pegulas. Here in Leonsis land, ownership isn't the problem
At least they should have a win against the Rangers coming up...
My thoughts on the Sabres right now: Face Palm Tree
Not a Sabres fan particularly, but it’s painful to watch what goes on with this team. Never scornworthy like the Leafs or Oilers though.
And the grass is green
This is just like with the curse of the Bills. I feel sorry for the fans who have to suffer.
Det player targets head and injures sabre player with what should be a game misconduct and a 5 minute pp for buff ended up with buffalo on the penalty kill, leagues rigged. Not to mention the olayer who should of been ejected scored the game tying goal to send it to overtime
