Vintage 1960 Tonka Power Boom Loader Restoration

The 1960 Tonka power boom loader is rare on the market. I am very happy to have acquired this vintage truck a couple of months ago and just completed its restoration today.
The restoration process went smoothly without too much difficulty or any accidents, all the missing parts could be found in the market fortunately, including the long arm boom which is a high quality reproduction part.
I have to mention one thing in the restoration process about the powder coating powder I used. Choosing a color that was the same as the original was very difficult. The original color is blue with a little bit of green, and also has a metallic luster. In order to find the same color I bought six different colors of the coating powders and tried small samples of each color. Some colors were almost the same as the original color looking at the photos, but the small test samples I did were totally different. I Finally decided to use the pacific blue from the Illusion series. The result after using this powder coating was very beautiful and satisfactory. This color turned out as probably the closest to the original color as well, very satisfying!

Nice restoration,but you didn't have to make a new axle,all you had to do is clean it up & straighten it out,bcause I've seen other people that do restorations on toys that have bent axles like that one is & they cleaned them up & straightened them back up & if they were bent to bad they would've made new ones

I use 5hp/25 gal air compressor, the media is “BLACK BEAUTY” abrasive blast 20/40 mash size, which I bought from Amazon, that is not cheap. I am not professional at sand blasting, still have foggy problem.😅
