Almost the perfect watch. Love the quartz! Only downside: that date window is an embarrassment - too small and not framed. Better just to leave it out.
To me that is its only downside🥹
Great watch at the price point. This is really hard to beat. My only concern is the AR coating on top of the sapphire. I don't mind a little bit of reflection as long as the crystal is more scratch proof.
They have a layer of sapphire coating on top of AR coating to make AR coating scratch resistant as well.
OK, Dave. I just ordered the Black/Red version. It looks to make a perfect daily driver for me since I don't wear a watch every single day. I like good value. Your AR tests were impressive.

Hi, Dave. Regarding the SWC logo, in an interview the Roemers did on a fellow TH-cam channel (yes, I love watches too much and even watch interviews 😁), Josh said that Swiss Trademark regulations are quite strict. So changing it is a lot more involved than just choosing to apply a new logo on the dial. It seemed to me that they are aware that some people aren’t fond of the current logo, but that the extra work required to change it just isn’t a priority. Can’t blame them since they are on a roll with the Bunker, now Ark, and then the Hyper-G! Again, great review, Dave. I always enjoy your style and delivery. Take care, man.
That's unfortunate, about the logo not being a priority. It's a polarizing element and can really hold back the entire brand. Christopher Ward has been experiencing that for some time and has finally been making moves to correct it, and their logo wasn't even bad (though their new one is really, really good). I hope they take the steps.
@@JoseSierradeLeste I do want to be clear in my previous comment that it was just my impression that changing the logo was not a priority. Josh Roemer did not actually say that in the interview. Also, that’s a great point re: Christopher Ward, Jose. Like many others, I too did not like the 9 o’clock logo. But, it seems that CW did fine regardless because they made such excellent watches. So, in that regard, maybe SWC is in the same boat! 👍😁
I am clearly in the minority, but I actually don’t mind the CWC logo at all. But then again, I liked the quirky difference of the original Christopher Ward watches, which I purchased. I like companies that dare to be different, so have fallen somewhat out of love with CW and now focus on Squale, of which I have purchased two in 2020, as they are more unique in their offerings.
@@edteach3r Oh, no! Eddie, you are hereby banished from the watch enthusiast community 😉😁. Both for not minding the 9 o’clock CW logo and for falling out of love with CW watches (though somewhat mitigated by switching to Squale, which are awesome!). 😁😁

I don't think it's worth 4 times the price of the Lorus titanium field watch.
It's the law of diminishing returns, a cheaper watch will usually appear better value unless it is particularly bad. The SWC does have a better spec than the Lorus & it would probably feel better in hand as well.

Ooh man the SWC hyper-G looks amazing. First microbrand watch I've looked at and really liked. This one's great too, but it kinda conflicts with this great Citizen BM8180 I got for $20.
I'm having the same issue when comparing it to my Lorus lumibrite that I got for $40. I love the SWC but can't really justify it.
Yeah I have the Citizen, and the Lorus Lumibrite, and a Bulova, the quality of which is astonishing and sold for 20 GBP to 40 GBP in England if you could find one. No lume though on that one but everything else is first class. I just won't be buying another field watch after the four Seikos I bought. It's gotten silly. 👍
SWC are such a great little brand that are producing some quality pieces, I have a swc bunker and it's amazing. I definitely recommend them

I'm on a bit of a quartz Field watch kick right now and your review pushed me over the edge in regards to picking this one up. In regards to value for money, it's firing on all cylinders. Now I've got to figure out what watches have to leave the collection to make room for the new arrival.

Great review. This looks like an awesome grab and go. However I'd have skipped the top AR coating in order to keep it pristine. I'd also move the logo down as it feels squished towards the 12.
You were right on the money, Dave. I've had mine for about 3 weeks and it's truly fantastic.
I think SWC should only be on dial, it would look much better. Sapphire coating on top of crystal was a mistake on something made for everyday use.

The logo is unfortunate. Best to just use the name of the firm or it's abbreviations, SWC, or S.W.Co. or SWaCo! The automatic is something to look forward to. I hope that they choose a Sellita movement and leave off the date complication.
Very interesting everyday choice. I particularly liked the sub-dial, case material and the utterly practical strap design. The date window is small but not a deal-breaker, although i would think a bit on design improvements.
Nice review. I agree with you on the logo. They might want to rethink the company logo. Maybe change the logo design and shorten the company to a simple three letter SWC. Thanks for the review.
I picked up this exact watch the moment it came out. Great grab and go watch. Great lume. Very utilitarian.
I like the direction SWC is going. Both the Ark and the Bunker Automatic are great lookingfield watches. I'm hoping pick up one of their watches in 2022. As to which one, it's a tough call. I'd love it if they made an automatic or mechanical Ark because I like the design with the small seconds hand just a tiny bit more.
If they can shrink the Bunker, I'll buy it in a heartbeat
Great review on a awesome light weight watch. I picked one up and love the watch, the strap drove me crazy! It’s good quality and comfortable strap, that being said I have a larger than normal wrist (8”). Every time I put the watch on or off the strap would pull out from around the spring bar! It’s pain to have to tread the strap every time you take the watch on or off. Totally recommend the watch even for larger wrists it wears great. Just be prepared to change the strap or tread it around the spring bar a lot. Keep the great videos coming Dave! I picked up a San Martin SN031-G after your review it’s unlike any other watch I own. It’s my first San Martin an I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an other. The unique case shape, build quality and the crystal has me looking at it constantly.

Seems so close to a perfect budget field watch but that date window spoils it for me, looks too small and just not well thought out. If they did a no date version then it would be just about perfect.
That Orient Star 'explorer' is a beauty.
Needs small 24 hr. numerals to finish the military look. And the second hand needle is too long.

It definitely is better finished, and the Sapphire crystal and AR coating and the screwdown crown are all great upgrades over the Alba. Similar level of comfort and after dark performance.

I prefer the SWC Bunker. Better dial IMHO, Sellita auto movt, and comes with leather strap plus the velcro one (and optional Ti bracelet).
But at double the price.

While the double logo is unnecessary they shouldve went one or the other. But I gotta admit it doesn’t bother me at all.
Fab ⌚ review 👍! Agree on the logo niggle, with that fam backstory they should be able to find a decent graphic designer who can lend a hand with logo design and typography. Also "Swiss made" doesn't mean that much those days. Basically you'll need a Swiss made movement and a Swiss located "contact" signing off on quality control. So yes, an interesting piece from a mere technical point and probably even overdone. The whole backstory thing (well known from all those fashion brands) and the inflationary use of "Swiss" and "Swiss made" are only missing the statement, that this so-called Swiss Watch Company is cutting out all Swiss middlemen.

No need for a double logo, pick one and go for it. The strap looks like crap, i would much rather just get the watch and let me pick the strap, looks flimsy and definitely not something i would wear casually. I am thinking a nice leather strap that can compliment the case, given texture and color. Overall a very sharp offering. Any idea if a chronometer is on the works? Would like to see a coin press bezel on their next watch to add pizazz to a very cool looking watch.

Where can I get that strap for the orient star explorer
It seems they've done a lot to pump up the specs but maybe without thought of what they are designing. A field watch is going to get bumped, scraped and banged. It's gonna look yucky when the AR gets scratched. I like the watch ok but it's not 4x better than my Lorus lumibrite. Which is nearly perfect. IMO.

I love the case and the dial, but the movement is not truly dependable as I owned a number of Ronda movement watches that failed after a matter of months. Maybe because the movement is mostly made of plastic and hardly any metal parts on it.

This Ark would look grear on a Zulu strap
I love the size, weight, lume and AR coating; but it looks so frumpy next to that Orient. Dull colors, poor design, weird logo etc. The functionality and build are great, but they should have someone else design their watches from an aesthetic standpoint.

The second hand is outside the seconds dial and not aligned. Would drive me mad. Strap def needs to be replaced. AR coating on the outside on this watch, price point, depends on quality of the coating, but at this price the watch you'd expect to knock it around and will show marks. In the January sales I'd go for a Seiko 5 if want to get into automatic or look at new classic Timex range. If wanted a Citizen the Eco-Drive Men's Dive looks great value plus stainless steel bracelet

Thanks Dave. Due to your marketing skills I went ahead and ordered an Ark watch. It's everything you said it would be; EXCEPT for the lume. Don't get me wrong, I love this little watch. But lume is my first consideration, and, realistically, this watch doesn't offer much more than ok lume. Actually, no more than 1-2 legible hours at night. It's disappointing, but that's just me, I like my watch to tell me the time also at 0400. This one doesn't.

Cheap looking watch, nothing special. Too simple a name of company, without any imagination. You'd better buy for this many any automatic Orient watch;)
