Thank you bud! If we paint it I will just go to the original silver. Colour change would be a lot of work as there is a lot of exposed paint inside the car.
Lupo's are dope! With the right drivetrain, running gear, suspension/ tires it would be even better! Reminds me of when I used to drive them on Gran Turismo for the 'Lupo Cup.' 🙂 Definitely a fun car to toss around. I'm jealous that we never got them in the states. What a shame. Thanks for sharing man!👍👍✌️
I had Bell’s palsy at the age of 16, took 9 months to recover and some small prescribed steroids to maintain muscle mass in my face. I hope you have a speedy recovery, it’s an annoying experience my eye now at 32 still waters constantly as I can’t blink properly. All the best from Manchester
👌🏻 cool, i have a completely standard Y reg 5 speed Lupo Gti in Moon silver, absolutely superb little cars, had mine 8 years as an occasional driver, it’s just done 100k but it even still has its original exhaust on it 🤣
Yes, Dan! Mentioned getting a Lupo GTI to you when you asked about the MK2’s direction. You are going to have so much fun with this…hopefully on both sides of your face! (Hope you get better soon, mate). Had 2 Lupo GTi’s from new back in the day. KW’s, OZ’s etc. First one pulled 141bhp at Club Lupo rolling road day with BCA (I think it was) Carbon intake can and full stainless exhaust. IIRC, the front 280 brake upgrade just needed new calliper carriers, think they may have been from a Corrado…it was a long time ago! I also did this…huge improvement. You are 100% correct about small, light cars. They handle brilliantly and you can use the power to its full potential. Sooooo looking forward to seeing you get this on track and have a blast. Take care, bud❤️👊
Cheers bud! Be interesting to see what this is pulling as it is before any engine mods. Been looking at intakes and think we will have to do one. defo needs a new exhaust too. Brake parts are all on order, Apparently makes a massive difference. Can't wait to get out in it.
@@DanChambersDAC really looking forward to seeing you get the best from this Lupo. Going to be awesome and you’re going to have such a laugh in it, Dan👊
Just basically binged watched all your vids last week, see this and feel like fuckin hell you cannot catch a break! Love the projects and the bungalow project too. Keep it up mate you're doing a crackin job, despite all the health/mental health issues 💪🙏
Living in the states, I’ve always dreamed of a lupo gti. They are getting old enough that I could hopefully grab one at the 25 year mark. Can’t wait to see what you do with it mate!
My Lupo Gti is on 135K on it's original engine, I keep thinking I should sell it but like you one drive crazy grin and no sale, induction kit won't do much because of single throttle body, ITB's are the way to go to get good power. Don't lower it more that 20mm the road ride becomes poor if you do, same if the damping is too stiff. mine came with coil-overs went back to Bilstiens and shortened springs. All unique parts are becoming difficult to get. Club Lupo is a great resource for what others have done. Best of luck with it.
I used to own a 1.4 16v polo 6n2 (100bhp) it was a W reg 2000 model and it was great fun to drive was pretty quick for such a small car a lot of the parts from the Lupo were the same on the polo I believe. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, those lupo’s have a lot of character
Firstly - get well soon Secondly - these little lupo's do look really cheeky, and should be a real fun build away from the head scratching that I guess the mk2 will be. 🤟🤟
Wheels are hideous! Delighted you understand the chassis, keeping it AVY engine. Get the KAM racing manifold and system to help it breath. 288 front discs are just a carrier, Mk2 Golf brake kits fit. Limitation is engine management, only 1 or 2 places in UK can re-map… aftermarket ECU & throttle bodies? Be aware some parts are pretty much unobtanium + with only 1000 ever officially UK it’s a rare sight to see.
😂 terrible aren't they! It really doesn't need over powering. The right mods will make it so much fun. brake conversion is ordered ready for a nice cheap upgrade! not sure on the engine yet, need to stop spending!
@@DanChambersDAC the reward tuning one of these is definitely worth it, it’s a shame there isn’t much tuning support. Power to weight these will shame bigger cars or out handle them. Forgot to suggest white line rear ARB is a very good upgrade. Drivers window likely to be the switch, these can be tricky to find replacement. IIRC it was 2002 when the Gti got 6 speed box - so looks like someone has swapped out the original 5 speed - you can get LSD for these as well.
aircon and sunroof is a weird spec, but very cool, 6 speed is the gearbox to have definitely, the 3rd to 4th up shift is lovely and the shorter ratios make all the difference on track
Nice project dude! @TRHamza gets a decent Clubsport rear seat delete kit for VW platform cars, not sure of their name but I’m sure it’s east to find. When you said “puts a smile on your face, well half of it” I nearly spat my coffee out. Hope the BP eases for you 👌
Have an engine for the lupo well it’s from a 6n2 polo gti , I rebuilt the head after timing belt broke on my son (the small belt that drive the exhaust cam) and when I started the engine after it started burning oil, piston rings I believe not valve stem seals as head was like new anyway I digress, block and head are sitting in my workshop in Essex and are foc to you if any use 👍
Currently own one of these too the brake upgrade is from a G60 i think mine came fitted by last owner also a 2001 think you have a rare one there with a/c and sun roof and 6 speed mine a 5 speed ...got a steel at 2.5k

Looks good, I had a Lupo and then a Polo GTI, did want a Lupo GTI though :-). Seem to remember these had aluminium wings/bonnet on them. Gearbox might be a weak point as had a rebuild on my 2nd Polo GTI that uses the same gearbox
Get well soon. In regards to the mk2, aren’t you going to have problems removing he beetle engine in the future with the clearance you have? You will have to take the alternator off first which is a pain in the a###
The 'K' brace.....I've seen a few that simply bolt to the top of the rear dampers for the 6N2 Polo and appear to be worse than useless, if the Lupo brace is the same, you may want to reconsider, Dan.
The one I am looking at bolts to mountings on the boot floor too. Read some decent things about them stiffening up the rear end. The company works with the local University on testing.
I laughed a bit at hearing you say you cant stand tint. I personally really like it but I also live in a place where you almost literally *have* to have it. And I'm using literally correctly. It gets so hot where I live that without tint and a working a/c you can in fact die in your car. So, it's just funny to hear the thoughts of someone from such different circumstances (not liking it and not *needing* it).
Love Lupos! Had 2 1.4 16v buy never a gti! Maybe one day! As for the clutch for feeling 100% it's worth checking the pedal box. They notorious for cracking. Maybe not on the gtis. But on lower spec they where a weak point 👍👍
