Yeah its crazy to think there were saber tooth deer and rhinos roaming around what is now Nebraska!
Love the local history. These are great family adventures. Love the way you admire Mother Nature. Saw in Alaska a large group Bald Eagles. At first thought they were seagulls. Guy standing next to me said no their Bald eagles. It’s called a jubilee, soar or tower. Love the tours.

The roadbed you were standing on was the C&NW's line to Wood, SD which split off the main in Norfolk. Why they decided to build to Wood is lost to history but it was a bad decision. They didn't even get there until 1945, and then pulled it up back to Winner SD in 1969. The rest lasted until 1978. CNW was EVERYWHERE in that area but by then they were broke, and things were in such bad shape it took the last train 2 days to get back to Norfolk. Someone joked you had to compare the train to the fenceposts to see if it was actually moving. Now that line is gone, nearly all the Cowboy line is gone and even the CNW is gone. Those lines that (did and do) depend on grain from the elevators out there are usually feast or famine. Good video.
I grew up in Verdigre. I think it's cool you are documenting these places and sharing with the world. Ash falls is a great place to visit especially for kids. That bridge was still intact last time I was up there sad to see its messed up.

I dunno if I commented on this video yet but I love that first-morning hike with the birds chirping and it's that wonderful feeling you get, ahh it's the best. I used to take those first morning hikes with my daughter and I really miss them. Thank you for sharing Mike. I loved everything about this video you did an amazing job with it. Was just there couple weeks ago. Been hitting that area for 20yrs for Turkeys and have never stopped in to see Fossil Beds.

Just watching this much later. When I was a kid, we canoed out to a lava bed in southeastern Washington state where they found an impression in the side of the hill where a Rhino had been buried by lava. Wonder if was from the same blow up.

WOW Beautiful Nebraska
Spent a week in Niobrara back in the 80's on vacation. Very nice people there. Family member had ties there from years ago, and they actually remembered him. A conservation officer invited us to dinner at his house, his son was my age. He took me fishing at local farm ponds and then to the next town for a town carnival. Nice people in that area.

@@CrazyQuady oh lots of fun. Drinking and floating with occasional stops at sand bars in the river for reapplying sunscreen or to eat or just to make the float last a little longer. It's good times. I always bring a speaker cuz you gotta have tunes. Fresh made fire starters today too so im set. 👍

Hey, another great trip. Maybe it's just me, but looking at that bridge... Felt a little bit eerie... Can you imagine the power of that water to be able to do that to that bridge? I liked the bones as well. I would have felt like I had to be very quiet in there also. Looks like they have enough ash yet to go through to last them a very long time. Great camping site! Can't wait for the next adventure.

Don't know if you'll read this, but have you visited the chalk mine by Scotia Nebraska and fort hartsuff by elyria Nebraska? There are plenty of places to camp and other attractions in that area. You don't live all that far from me. I'm in Seward county not far from branched oak.
