- It's a question that gets asked time and time again, how do I get sponsorship in drifting? Dave has behind some of the biggest partnership deals in European drifting and has gained some experience in that area. Instead of keeping this to himself, he has decided to share some advice with all 'up and coming' drivers to hopefully set them on the right path. Now it would be impossible to explain everything in this video, but it might help out some and that's the motive!

The stuff about vlogging was very true. I've been doing it for a few years now and still edit so much out and still hate seeing/hearing myself on camera lol but you just have to get on with it and realise no one else cares

Well it's work either way. If you can't do what sponsors want, you may as well work more at what you can do!
@@driftgames_life Unironically great advice. Day jobs give you a sponsor without giving you a sticker, too.
@@EverettdaBear well yea but most of us have boring day jobs and we want a living out of our cars, so that’s why we are more attracted to sponsors, I don’t have any great media platform so I might start selling steering wheels locally
@@chetansingh3219 trust me, I know why people want sponsors. However, like he says in the video, not always the best route to leave the boring day job that pays for the car.
Great advice. Assessing your plan and figuring out how its going to be different 'next year' is a really really important piece.
This has been a real eye opener to see how hard you have worked to get this far so well done mate, love the channel 👌👍
Great video guys. There is so.much in here that can be used even to just help grow your social media if you're a photographer, videographer or anything else trying to be discovered in and around drifting or motorsports in general.

I have been trying to get sponsorships for awhile now and never get anything back. Thank you for this! I will start with local shops and companies and go from there, although we dont have to much here in North Dakota USA XD

I laughed at the vlog mistakes portion. A ton of people have told me how natural I am on video and I just look at the bottle of alcohol sitting in my camera bag like "Yeah. It's not stressful at all"

Thanks for this video, great advice. I love drifting and want to compete, but also want to promote the sport, so I got together with 2 buddies and we are planning to setup a small type driftevent, grasroots style event and accessable for beginners. So all this advice seems to be just as applicable as it would be for a partnership for my own drifting

Realistic expectations of what a sponsor can offer too, in the first 2 years of business I have had countless people asking for a free ls engine / transmission.
It's all about finding a balance that is beneficial for both parties equally definitely 🙏🏻

One thing I would like guys would be about if you are starting out where to go what to get done. I have my car and few mods done on it extra lock, seats, harnesses, hydro but only place close to me is modello and as you can imagine its fairly hefty price to go drifting. I get to go 1 - 2 times a year if I am lucky with the cost of it all. How did you guys start out?
That's actually where we started out as well and it was simply getting in as much seat time as possible. It was difficult but it was only then that we moved on up into competition and things escalated from there.
I know this video is 2 years old but one thing that puts me off is the people who show videos of their professional garage with lifts etc... and thousands upon thousands spent.
It would be nice to see the "Hey, on my driveway we're building X car for first ever drift practice" The only video i've seen like this is from AdamLZ and it's only a single video.
I agree but it seems like nobody wants to see the guys like us struggling. They want to see the rich guys already making it happen.
@@AndrewDrizmo I mean sure the £500,000 drift monsters are exciting to watch. I feel there needs to be a "This is how we started" and watch them grow over the channel rather than skipping all of that and now having just a channel of "Watch as i decimate the comp" type videos.

Fantastic video. Answered to a lot of questions, but is it really smart being the only guy hitting a company, if, let's say, you are actually the first guy ever hitting them for promo or partnership? Is it weird to hit up your local milk and milk products company when they even don't have social media, and may have had some tv or radio ads? Should I shoot my shot?
*Quick tip*: if you live in smaller country, you might actually have a shot with big companies. For example, RedBull Hungary or RedBull Poland are notably smaller than worldwide part, and they do sponsor national/local pro/proam drivers.
Your spot on on a local or national level. I always find companies that are related to what your doing but maybe don’t have that much knowledge when it comes to marketing are a good bet. They are open minded at least -Dave

The totally opposite of reality. You get sponsors because you are good at promoting yourself and your partners. There are Irish champions getting less than amateurs in Ireland due to this!

How did the partnership between drift games and Duane come about in 2019?😀😀
At the time Drift Games was a clothing brand really so Duane going to Europe was great promo. He did awesome as well!

Absolutely, partners look for publicity not level when making those decisions. Get your social media game up and you have a great shout!
100%... a driver with a million followers may not lead to a single sale. But a driver with 1,000 may be bringing in a sale a week. It’s about quality of engagement, not empty exposure.

Ugh, it's all brand recognition and selling an image and merchandise, it WAS about the car. I don't even want this now, I just wanted the money and the lifestyle for being a better driver with the better car. What's the point, just having more subscribers on TH-cam? I don't get it...

Sucks drifting back roads for 16 years gaining the skills, then losing your car due to rent bills, then having a daughter and not being able to afford shit. I got the skills, just not the money or connections. My dream since I was 14 was to be a pro drifter. 32 now, and have less now than I did at 14...I just wish a pro could see me drive, that's all it will take. Once they see my skills, it's sealed lol....I can drift anything, pickups, cars, wheat trucks(haha), dirt bikes, quads..shit, if you understand the concept and know your angles, you can drift anything....that being said, follow me on Divine_Drift on IG haha.
Unfortunately, unlike physical sports like football etc. partnerships in drifting come from an ability to self-market. Most companies find ability and results less important than publicity. With video editing software and social media essentially free to use, it’s best to start there.
