He's a great rugby player alright. People have stupid beliefs (including me - I have had many stupid beliefs over the years) but you can't judge them based on their beliefs. You have to judge them based on their actions. The line is thin sometimes but to the best of my knowledge Izzy never did anything to warrant being persecuted and judged the way he has been. He was born in a society with a certain belief system. He genuinely believes that homosexuality is a sin. Do people think he'll stop believing it if they suppress his voice. Should we persecute and vilify people based on their beliefs? We need to go back to freedom of speech as long as it doesn't incite or encourages violence, mental or physical. I'm a man, if a woman believes that men are all rapists I wouldn't take that personal. I wouldn't be outraged about it. I would think that that's unfortunate for her but it has nothing to do with me. If she campaigned for mass castration I would have a problem with it... see the difference?

That put him in violation of Rugby's code of conduct and values. He should have kept his mouth shut and his views to himself. That's why he got into trouble. Yes ... Keep politics out of sport. 100% agree But also keep religion, and bigoted views out of it. He deserved what he got. As in lost earnings and career time. He had the right to say what he did and he was not jailed for it, or executed ala North Korea where there is no freedom of speech. And look at that he is even playing rugby again. So he never didn't have freedom of speech. However, freedom of speech does not mean that anyone has to like, respect, or accept what you say. Freedom of speech does not mean you are free from the consequences of what you say. He violated the code of conduct of a sport he chose to play (a code of conduct he was very aware of) and brought the sport into disrepute. So while he had every right to say what he did. Australian rugby equally had every right to disassociate itself from him, and his bigoted views.
