His supporters tried to claim that it was his right to express his religious beliefs but not a lot of people had much sympathy for him. He is a great player, but I'm not sure his Japanese club will stand by him if he starts saying stupid things on social media again.

Israel was in his prime when he got unlawfully sacked, so imagine if he played for another 4 years.. no doubt he would have scored 100 tries.. he hasn't played pro Rugby since 2019.. and he shows up and delivers 2 tries on debut 👏

He's a great rugby player alright. People have stupid beliefs (including me - I have had many stupid beliefs over the years) but you can't judge them based on their beliefs. You have to judge them based on their actions. The line is thin sometimes but to the best of my knowledge Izzy never did anything to warrant being persecuted and judged the way he has been. He was born in a society with a certain belief system. He genuinely believes that homosexuality is a sin. Do people think he'll stop believing it if they suppress his voice. Should we persecute and vilify people based on their beliefs? We need to go back to freedom of speech as long as it doesn't incite or encourages violence, mental or physical. I'm a man, if a woman believes that men are all rapists I wouldn't take that personal. I wouldn't be outraged about it. I would think that that's unfortunate for her but it has nothing to do with me. If she campaigned for mass castration I would have a problem with it... see the difference?

Freedom of speech does not mean you are free from the consequences of what you say. He violated the code of conduct of a sport he chose to play (a code of conduct he was very aware of) and brought the sport into disrepute. So while he had every right to say what he did.
