Which era Waits? By the time Waits went full-on werewolf he couldn't quite bellow out like Dreimanis, while before that he had hints of his old jazz-time voice.
It might be because they play different genres, but I don't think Dreimanis sounds like he ever had the smoky beat poet featuring upright bass thing going on while Waits could never quite escape that.
Still, definitely want to hear Dreimanis cover Going Out West or Down In The Hole. Maybe his own version of Diamonds and Gold.

Well unfortunately it's hard to have their normal stage antics with a bunch of 14 year olds standing in front of them. I respect that they tried something different and appreciate a bit of variation once in awhile. Their live acts will likely continue to be raw and unique outside of the MMVA's.
Oh, I don't mind stage antics at all, but dance crews is something I can never get behind....don't mind them for artists such as Minaj and Bieber...and others who need them from lack of talent on stage (cause I never watch them), but bands like July Talks don't need people flailing around in unison, who pretend their dances fit in so well with the song.
It's like having a hip-hop dance crew at a symphony orchestra to me.
It's some of the same dancers from the video who are actual friends of Leah's. Leah also did the choreography for that video. She also has a performance art background so this is actually quite in her area.
Really the whole performance is just an extension of the Push + Pull video.

Ronnie Rioux this doesnt do them justice. I've seen them live and it was a lot better then this. It sounded a lot closer to the c.d.s. They put on amazing show.

I agree. It's kind of shocking because I saw them live and they sounded way better than this. I was very pleased by how much they sounded like their recorded music, but this is disappointing. I think a little too much stage action took away from the quality of the music here.
New song from them, I don't know how many times they've sang this song at a venue before this, But i can confirm they absolutely rock all of their older songs live.

This poor guy is held down by the female singer. If he went solo he would be a gigantic success. He sings raw, blues, swing, rock in a way that has never been done the way that he does it. It is manly and then the girl makes his work very teenager.
I'm not usually the type to second guess artists but what's up with the stupid dancers? It's not at all what we expect from July Talk. Talented bands don't need dancers but stupid crowds and TV audiences do I guess.
