Fly Fishing for Creek Chub

  • I took the ultralight spinning rod and the 3 weight fly rod out in pursuit of whatever fish I could catch on a new creek I've never fished before just for a change of pace and a little adventure. I was also looking to land my first fish ever with a fly rod and I was not disappointed.
    Enjoy life, enjoy the outdoors and thanks for watching!

    Not creek chubs they are fall fish very close to creek chub but fall fish are more silverly and bigger than an actual creek chub

      Thanks for the info. I've heard of fall fish before but really didn't know they were similar to creek chub and had no idea that that's what I caught. I have 2 pugs by the way and they are named Tucker and Otis 👍

      @@FitzYakin Fall fish are very similar to creek chubs and many people don't know that but hey when I first caught a fall fish I thought it was a creek chub and also put are great 👌

      @@Goober523 haha yes pugs are awesome. Sweetest little dogs. Our 2 are going on 10 this summer. We love the little guys and they're a big part of our family. I plan to fly fish for these fall fish again because for me it was a blast catching them. So now I know what to look for when distinguishing between creek chub and fall fish. Just got into trout fishing last Spring (I've been a bass fisherman most of my life), so still learning to identify all these new species of fish I'm catching 😁

      Not familiar with fall fish, but chubs can grow up to 12 inches. We have some monsters in the creek that runs through our property.

    Creek Chub...aka Fallfish, we catch em here in the Pemi all the time when we’re targeting smallmouth. Have caught em up tp 18” and a couple of pounds. I let just about everything go anyhow so what the heck. Wicked fun, fishing is fishing, nice to catch something on the fly rod in that pretty little stream. Way to go FitzY.

      @FitzYakin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I'd like to catch a biggun like that Don. Some of my first fish ever caught were creek chub back when I was a kid. We used to fish this little stream in the neighborhood with sticks, line and a bread ball on a hook. It was total fun and still is. Fishing is fishing and to me it's more about time outside, enjoying the great outdoors. The fish you catch are just icing on the cake. But I know you already know this :)

  • @PeelingLine
    @PeelingLine 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Helluva trek in to that spot. Looked like a good spot though. For someone that hadn't flyfished before you were killing it. I wanted to learn to fly fish but apparently you can just use a spinning reel with bobbers or split shots and the flys. Nice chubs and brookie for your first catch. What was the lure you were using on your spinning rod?

    • @FitzYakin
      @FitzYakin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the spot is one of those overlooked spots that not many people fish which is one of the things I love. It also gets a run of salmon and steelhead in the fall and winter so I'm going to scout it out for those seasons for down the road. And yes about spinner gear and flies but you should try the fly fishing at least once; just a different way to catch and land them that is cool. And the lure is a mini rapala crank Brett.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FitzYakin Yeah I wanted to get into fly fishing this year but the only person I know that did it moved away. Should be a lot easier walking through that in the fall.

    • @FitzYakin
      @FitzYakin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's the one thing with these smaller streams is that this time of year they are covered up pretty well with brush so they're hard to work and get up and downstream.

      @FitzYakin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1
