Christ I remember meeting all these gus when they opened for the Ramones April 27th 1977 in Sunderland Mass. That whole nigt changed my life forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUNK ROCK
The band is L to R Johnny Rao (guitar), Buz Verno (Bass), Frankie LaRocka (drums),David Johansen (Lead Vocal) Syl Sylvain (Guitar in Red suit) and Thomas Trask (guitar)
That first DJ album was one of THE most underrated. Stands the test of time. And on stage with those guys straight out of central casting? Couldn't ask for anything better.
Thanks for putting this up. I'd love to see more footage of this great band up here especially with Syl along for the ride. Used to grow my face long and act pissed off like I had a tough week and would never get carded way back when. Saw these guys and The Ramones at the same club a number of times using the same m.o. Great times. David Jo always 110% energy! Thanks!
@thundersgirrl Frankie something, his last name escapes me at the moment. He actually use to get mistaken for Johnny Thunders alot, it was really weird when he played with JT. Don't quote me on any of this though.
Awesome bursts of guitar at 1.20. Great stuff! I have the David Johansen solo record from which these clips come. Fantastic to see the band in action. What a show. But what is up with the audience - are they on drugs?
Tim Hurley .. He is talking about the guy in the black suit...It looks a lot like Johnny. Sylvain in the red is obvious and looks like he is on Rhythm if you watch his hands
That's a lot of guitar players.....and a bunch of good lookin guys......from a time it wasn't yet not hip to be bearded, obese , wear shortpants, sneakers and baseball caps on stage.....
So great! I saw this band often 78-79.
Me too Ali. Fabulous!

Used to go see the band every time they played at Stars in Philly. One of my all time favorite bands and drummers Frankie LaRocka!
Great upload. Johansen solo in the late 70s/early '80s was fantastic. Thanks for posting this
a highly under rated pioneer, but never seen a more opioded drummer ever
Man,this band was so tight!Incredible music!

This is great. I remember they played this song on WBCN. They really pushed this album.
Slayed then.
Slays now.
Who's in the band at this point?
@thundersgirrl Frankie something, his last name escapes me at the moment. He actually use to get mistaken for Johnny Thunders alot, it was really weird when he played with JT. Don't quote me on any of this though.

Looks like typical repressed dead non pogoing Musikladen audience.
Wasn't this album in '78 supposed to be the New Youk Dolls comeback album?
No
They split in 75. Syl and David kept going a year or so with Peter Jordan, Tony Machine and Bobby Blain (they were great)
Thank you, but there was another movie ... not that one "up the academy" Thanks anyway.
Johnny Thunders was so great.
Does anyone remember the 70's teenage stoner movie this song was in ??
Up the Academy
What show is this from? What year?
Is Syl still wearing his red period suit? Lol
dolls with Billy n . rivets
@JoeKersten holy fuck i thought it was johnny
Isn't that the dad from American Pie on bass?
Impossible for DJ to be any cooler...
up the academy
Is that Johnny Thunders on lead guitar?
No, it's Sylvain Sylvain
Tim Hurley .. He is talking about the guy in the black suit...It looks a lot like Johnny. Sylvain in the red is obvious and looks like he is on Rhythm if you watch his hands
i think its an intentional look alike though and looks like he is playing rhythm too.
The guy on the left not the right side.
They talk about it below and give his name
@mg196 eugenelevy hahahhaha?
