This is why I LOVE this show. As a millennial, I've never heard of most of the cars that are featured on this show. I love the history and I love learning about these. It would be a dream of mine to someday just be able to ride in a car that is 100 years old
Love these rare and expensive cars. Thanks Jay! Without guys like you, most of us would never see beautiful historic machinery like this. Unbelievably nice for a mostly original car, nearly a century old!
Mr. Leno - that horn IS THE BUSINESS! Thank you once again for another excellent video. I had never heard of Cunningham before, and probably never will again! Fantastic you are taking these cars out and letting the lucky people of LA see them.
JAY LENO IS AMAZING. HE HAS NEARLY AN ENCYCLOPEDIC KNOWLEDGE OF CARS, YET CARS IS JUST A HOBBY. HE OFTEN CALLS LEON KAPLAN, THE "MOTOR MAN" ON KABC RADIO SUNDAY MORNINGS 8-10. THEIR CONVERSATIONS ARE FASCINATING.
ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT!!! I'm sure Jay won't mind, it's not rocket science that it's probably his favourite car in the garage - he always makes reference to it.
Hi Mr jay, this Cunningham video is one of my favourites it’s been 10 years you uploaded on this day 2012, still I watch and enjoy, I love all vintage stuff on your channel great work and superb collection.
Used to live in Rochester, never knew this car existed or the company existed. I checked, the factory building survived and has only recently been turned into apartments.
Funny, this video brought back a little memory. The transmission whine in the early gears reminded me of the transmission whine in dad's old '48 Chevy 1 ton. I'd forgotten all about that until now.
I love how Jay Leno goes into detail about the history of these old automobiles. He makes us see them as people almost. Like a person with a story to tell you. And I love that.
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us these wonderful cars, Jay. I just love the details and stories you tell about each one too. It's really nice of you to go to all this effort. Cheers!
I've had a few special interest cars starting with the 1933 model year. An unwritten rule is that you discuss your car with anyone interested and we've all done that. Mr. Leno obviously takes this seriously and has surpassed any requirements. This is the most important of your accomplishments, earning you an important spot in history. Cars; either you get it or you don't. It's that simple. Keep on keeping on!
Wish more "car guys" could appreciate these the high craftsmanship of early cars. Hope there will still be guys around in 20 years to be their caretakers. What a great story. And it's the 1st. 442! ;) My only nit-pic - I wish the fenders and interior were left alone. GREAT video!!!
Maybe it's just the audio compression, or the microphone placement, or post-editing, but I love the way the engine sounds. Very smooth and relatively quiet, almost sounds like a loud electric. I don't know if it actually sounds anything like how it does in this video, but I like to think it does
+E34Benzin Jay mentioned the new gear that had been made but was not worn in. They used to say of the old British big cars that the transmission would keep on getting smoother.
As someone who has lived in the Rochester, NY area for over 40 years, I am always amazed at finding out more about th area and what was made here. Impressive car! Would love to find out more info, but as you said, they didn't advertise much, so there may not be much to be found.
Thanks for posting this, Jay! Our whole family got a big kick out of this. We are from Rochester and our great-grandmother was a Cunningham. None of us are in the car biz, tho.
Great car. Love the large headlights. I like the way you describe how the car drives, sounds, feels, etc. Often, I think about these things when I'm driving my classic trucks. Especially the sound of the gears, which you don't hear in modern vehicles. Thanks for another great video Jay.
Jay, I think you do more for the preservation and education of classic automobiles than any other person alive. Thank you for your contribution to American history and culture. Long live our American way of life and our love for the automobile. God bless you Jay!
Much like all the car companies that folded in the early 20th century, you just never hear about these cars. Extra kudos for bringing on the Cunningham descendant.
Indeed these videos are much better when Jay is by himself because he speaks his mind and doesn't restrain himself or his personality. There are some exceptions but please Jay no more marketing people
Such a great show Jay! you definately are someone i admire being so down to earth and of course that amazing collection you have! keep up the great work! such an inspiration!
Love how Leno shows old cars from companies that no longer exist. A 452 cubic inch V8 with 90 HP so really not very efficient but that's 1920. Companies like Cunningham, Nash, and others are only known by some from Leno's videos.
Much like expensive cars of today, they don't advertise much since the clientele are those who know about them and can afford one. As Jay said it perfectly, you either know about it or you don't; along with if you have to ask how much it is chances are you can't afford it. Still a very nice car that was in really nice shape for a car that old and the fact it survived.
What a beautiful and impressive introduction. I love this show. Beautiful cars and excellent presentation as always. Definitely worthy of a Hollywood movie introduction.
The Cunningham family built a summer cottage, guest house and work barn, with very large boathouse on an island in Sodus Bay, NY around 1907. still exists the house on that property. I believe their main home was in Rochester proper, with a second residence north of town on Lake Ontario, a place to take prospective customers to, when they were trying out new buggies from the factory downtown Rochester.
The greatest part of Jay Leno's garage is the fact that these are drivers and being enjoyed as they were designed to do. The saddest thing is to see a classic car behind a velvet rope that has not even been started in years.
Hey Jay I just wanted you to know that I know about Cunningham. and you forgot one person you had to Cunningham Howard Hughes from the Spruce Goose. Katharine Hepburn wasn't allowed to drive it. But I know about the beautiful you got. it's a part of my family history. I like these cars a lot
You said it would've been the Lambo of it's day in regards to the speed it could do. I have to agree, the body shape, even when parked, looks quick. A very nice. looking car.
The automotive-buff world is all-the-better thanks to Mr. Leno - especially as it concerns the historical aspect. I can't begin to wrap my brain around how much time and money he's put into his collection.
My car of all of Leno’s cars. There is something special about American roadsters, something that still makes them desirable today. Even my model t roadster (1925) is still desirable
Happy Birthday.....It's a 100 years old. What had to be appreciated was that a machine could get you moving at all..... 20 years earlier, this would have been impossible.
I have in addition to Jay Leno's information when he said that's the "luggage rack" interesting fact is that's where ACTUALLY the "steamer trunk" would be tied down... early cars always had this and the tradition of tying a steamer "trunk" to the back in order to carry extra items became the reason we call the back of a car the TRUNK! 👍🏻🧏🏻♂️
There is also a different way to look at it:what was once a super fast exclusive for rich toy,is today overtaken by the cheapest smallest plain car in speed and in design.
One thing i think should also be mentioned if it has not already (to lazy to look through all the comments) is that Cunningham also made a prototype tank from 1927-1928. Jay has had the lambo tractor on the show, it would be cool if he could get a T1E2 or T1E4 tank on the show. Only one i know of is at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, which i doubt they would let him drive it if it still works, but still its a cool bit of info.
Wasn’t that the first car that Howard Cunningham, from “Happy Days”, owned? Also I remember when people wanted to take photos of their cars and having them taken standing next to them.
Interesting Vid Jay!!! - I wish you'd put them up on the lift more often - actually ALL of them - check them out underneath - and show us some Kool mechanical stuff / oddities!!!
This is why I LOVE this show. As a millennial, I've never heard of most of the cars that are featured on this show. I love the history and I love learning about these. It would be a dream of mine to someday just be able to ride in a car that is 100 years old
Hope you've gotten your chance.
I'm from the Rochester NY area and I never knew about this car until now. Thanks Jay 👍👏😊
Love these rare and expensive cars. Thanks Jay! Without guys like you, most of us would never see beautiful historic machinery like this. Unbelievably nice for a mostly original car, nearly a century old!
Well said!
Mr. Leno - that horn IS THE BUSINESS!
Thank you once again for another excellent video. I had never heard of Cunningham before, and probably never will again!
Fantastic you are taking these cars out and letting the lucky people of LA see them.
I really like the detail Jay gives about each car, Thanks Jay.
We should all be thankful of such a man who preserves the great old cars of the USA. For where else might you see a car like this?
The Giant headlights are fabulous!
That's a substantial looking car for 1920. It looks well put together.
Jay is living the dream. I wish i could afford all these great cars. Thanks Jay for showing us all of your car collection.
I wish I could afford one of them!
I think the most impressive part of this car is how quiet it is
Was just thinking the same thing...you can see why they get associated with Rolls.
ALMOST ELECTRIC LIKE.
@@MICHGO1 I had the same thought!
Packard's are whisper quiet as well
There is one thing for certain, all of Jays cars that have dash clocks will be working dash clocks!
Funny, this video brought back a little memory. The transmission whine in the early gears reminded me of the transmission whine in dad's old '48 Chevy 1 ton. I'd forgotten all about that until now.
Jay, I sure like all of these episodes of antique cars.. THANK YOU
I love how Jay Leno goes into detail about the history of these old automobiles. He makes us see them as people almost. Like a person with a story to tell you. And I love that.
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us these wonderful cars, Jay. I just love the details and stories you tell about each one too. It's really nice of you to go to all this effort. Cheers!
I love how he actually DRIVES all of these wonderful cars!!
"actually"
Another Leno masterpiece that TH-cam has hidden(?).
I knew he had a Cunningham, searching for it brought it right up. Are you only looking at your daily feed?
I've had a few special interest cars starting with the 1933 model year. An unwritten rule is that you discuss your car with anyone interested and we've all done that. Mr. Leno obviously takes this seriously and has surpassed any requirements. This is the most important of your accomplishments, earning you an important spot in history. Cars; either you get it or you don't. It's that simple. Keep on keeping on!
LOVED hearing the car going through the gears..MUSIC! Jay should make that a feature of all his car/bike drives!
Asmr videos.
UberLummox There will be. Tastes mature.
It takes an integrity to give up a few horses in exchange for authenticity. Glad these cars end up in Jay's hands
❤❤❤❤❤
The sound of that motor and straight cut gearbox, like a smooth turbine, lovely
Maybe it's just the audio compression, or the microphone placement, or post-editing, but I love the way the engine sounds. Very smooth and relatively quiet, almost sounds like a loud electric. I don't know if it actually sounds anything like how it does in this video, but I like to think it does
The sound comes mostly from the straight toothed gears of the transmission.
E34Benzin yeah, like in the old subway trains.
+E34Benzin Jay mentioned the new gear that had been made but was not worn in. They used to say of the old British big cars that the transmission would keep on getting smoother.
I love learning about these old time cars. Thanks Jay. Quality entertainment indeed.
You should scan all the photos, books, and manuals you have and upload them to your site. Digital preservation.
Good idea, I bet a company that makes scanners would do it for free, just to advertise their products. Ok Jay, get on this great idea.
I'm from Rochester, live near the old factory and happened to meet an elder female Cunningham relative recently.
As someone who has lived in the Rochester, NY area for over 40 years, I am always amazed at finding out more about th area and what was made here. Impressive car! Would love to find out more info, but as you said, they didn't advertise much, so there may not be much to be found.
I've never known much about cars but I love these videos. Thanks for all of the love you pour into this passion.
👍Nice! Great history on this old car. $9K in 1920 is like $120k in 2020👀
Talk about an extreme wealth gap back in the day! Wow!
Thanks Jay ✊
More cars from that era Mr.Leno. More cars form before that. You ROCK!!!
Jay, I think you do more for the preservation and education of classic automobiles than any other person alive. Thank you for your contribution to American history and culture. Long live our American way of life and our love for the automobile. God bless you Jay!
Wow that engine sounds really quiet and just purrs right along ....great car !
Jay does a great service to preserve these pieces of American history
Rochester represent! Sitting in my apartment looking at the Bug Jar right now :)
Much like all the car companies that folded in the early 20th century, you just never hear about these cars. Extra kudos for bringing on the Cunningham descendant.
What an incredible automobile! I love the old classics. Thanks, Jay..love the show!
Even though I was born in 1993 this video gave me goosebumps and also some nostalgia, it's simply a beautiful car.
Thank you for informing me of this great car - such craftsmanship! Enjoy it.
Indeed these videos are much better when Jay is by himself because he speaks his mind and doesn't restrain himself or his personality. There are some exceptions but please Jay no more marketing people
I had never heard of these before.
Beautiful car.
Love this car....the era, the originality....all of it.
Such a great show Jay! you definately are someone i admire being so down to earth and of course that amazing collection you have! keep up the great work! such an inspiration!
wonderful car I am glad that you are out there restoring and preserving these cars Thank you
I vaguely remember reading about Cunninghams, but now that I see one on this show I'm going to actively look for them.
another informative interesting car story
with headphones in I can tell its an amazing piece of machinery
Love how Leno shows old cars from companies that no longer exist. A 452 cubic inch V8 with 90 HP so really not very efficient but that's 1920. Companies like Cunningham, Nash, and others are only known by some from Leno's videos.
I like this one a lot - especially the sound!
Thank you Jay.
No other person would have such a collection and be willing to share it with us
Much like expensive cars of today, they don't advertise much since the clientele are those who know about them and can afford one. As Jay said it perfectly, you either know about it or you don't; along with if you have to ask how much it is chances are you can't afford it. Still a very nice car that was in really nice shape for a car that old and the fact it survived.
Hey Jay, have you ever heard of the Chandler motor company? I'd love to see a video on one of those but there extremely rare :/
well i absolutely love that. i love the sound of it. the gear whine and all
What a beautiful and impressive introduction. I love this show. Beautiful cars and excellent presentation as always. Definitely worthy of a Hollywood movie introduction.

A real gem.

The saddest thing is to see a classic car behind a velvet rope that has not even been started in years.
This quite an education. Thanks again Jay !
MY DREAM WOULD BE TO MEET JAY LENO AND LOOK AT ALL HIS AMAZING CARS
Hey Jay I just wanted you to know that I know about Cunningham. and you forgot one person you had to Cunningham Howard Hughes from the Spruce Goose. Katharine Hepburn wasn't allowed to drive it. But I know about the beautiful you got. it's a part of my family history. I like these cars a lot
Love hearing Jay go through the gears!
I never knew that Rochester NY made a car back in the day that's awesome
why did ya change the front bumper?
I wondered the same.
Incredible car as well as a great video!
I love these old car reviews, Thank you for showing your collection Jay!
I wish I was rich and lived in that era of cars. It's a work of art...
Those old cars look majestic gliding down the street.
I love how Jay puts around the Burbank/ Sun Valley area in these classics and never gets stopped by the cops. Are all these cars street legal?
You said it would've been the Lambo of it's day in regards to the speed it could do. I have to agree, the body shape, even when parked, looks quick. A very nice. looking car.
Amazingly quiet-running car, especially by 1920 standards. I wonder if Henry Royce knew about Cunningham? If he did, he should have been impressed.
Thanks for sharing! What a cool car- and a descendant!
I have a 2019 Honda Insight. It's basically an iPad on wheels. About as interesting as a microwave. THAT is a machine. Love it!
What a wonderful noise that machine makes. The youth can have their paddle shifted automatics. I'll take the sound of meshing gears thank you.
Happy Birthday.....It's a 100 years old.
What had to be appreciated was that a machine could get you moving at all..... 20 years earlier, this would have been impossible.
I love that one Jay I use it in all my bugattis.
Beautifully-made automobile! Purred like a kitten and seemed to drive so nicely.
So nice of Jay to invite Mr. Cunningham on the show and have him stand there while Jay did 95% of the talking.
john robert I have a feeling that Mr. Cunningham didn't particularly have the "gift of gab" under these circumstances.
john robert I guess they've talked a lot more, and even had a ride. It's just not kind of stuff the video was made about.
jay, you are cool as a cucumber, respect.
yeah I agree much respect to jay
NATURE TRAIL HIKES 999,999 views yes he does read the comments you melt.
Yes he does..
its funny. a car like that back then was a luxury item, a car like that today...is still a luxury item lol
Well, Good quality vehicles kept in good condition never stop becoming good quality vehicles.
Billy32210 exactly, that was my point
There is also a different way to look at it:what was once a super fast exclusive for rich toy,is today overtaken by the cheapest smallest plain car in speed and in design.

Fantastic!
And how about the 1953 sport Cunningham?
Build by a Family member?
Thank you Jay -- vou are an amazing Gentleman
Hopefully, since Michael only was in 2 Cunningham's his entire life that you indeed at least let him drive it around a bit!
That was beautiful! Thanks Jay!
Wasn’t that the first car that Howard Cunningham, from “Happy Days”, owned? Also I remember when people wanted to take photos of their cars and having them taken standing next to them.
LOVE THE HEADLIGHTS.
Interesting Vid Jay!!!
- I wish you'd put them up on the lift more often - actually ALL of them - check them out underneath - and show us some Kool mechanical stuff / oddities!!!
These are really great. Jay,s love of these shows
I love it when he says, "I put Evans-cool in all my Bugattis"
I'm lucky to put rusty rainwater from an old RC Cola bottle in my Toyota Corolla
My brother had a '78 corolla and he called it a "corroda"!
I LOOKED UP WINNING IN THE DICTIONARY and there was a link to this video - lol.
I salute you. I respect you greatly. You have given me motivation to work hard and become rich so I can fuel my passion for cars.
I LOVE Jay Leno`s Garage!
Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the Evans coolant tip, If I can find or order that here in Germany I'll put that in my 2 cars.
