You did it wrong 😊 put the lines inside your garage. Also put an end tape so the car knows where the parking lot ends. The spot you make needs to be about the same same size as a normal parking spot and it will definitely park inside your garage as long as it can see the lines. I’ve done it and it’s pretty amazing
At my house I would try putting the lines inside the garage, and back the car into the driveway until it sees the lines and hopefully it would put me in the right place in the garage which is my bigger issue.
Hey. From Nebraska here. I wonder if you put horizontal lines further up toward the garage as a demarcation if that would work. I don't know why a slope would affect it but it apparently does.
@@iowatesla the slope thing is annoying with summon too. I wanted to park up a slope, but it was so steep that I had to fight more to get up from the seat and out of my car. I decided to try to drive forward using basic summon, but it aborted because it was too steep. So I had to get back into the drivers seat, an drive to park, the do the fight I wanted to avoid.
You should have had a horizontal line to simulate an actual parking spot. Not sure if the car stopped for the decline or because its a lane and not a spot. It initiated the autopark for a standard spot then had not ‘rear’ to finish the task. Pretty cool tho!
You could try putting a back of spot cross bar right at the garage door entry. Cut the lines back to about 7’ out from garage. To always have it pick the right spot out hash lines like the end of a parking row in front of the other garage. Then when it stops right before the door just put it in reverse and back straight into garage. Not a permanent solution, but an interesting test.
Great video thanks. With my M3 I turned on the blinker as it approached my driveway which is very similar to yours. The car turned into the driveway and centered it self in the drive. I will try your tape method to see if it will pull into the garage forward as I need it to for charging. Great idea, Thanks Rusty
Thanks for the creative experiment. The car pulled completely off the road when you shortened the white line by 3 feet, which I considered a win. I would love to know how many more feet you can shorten the white line and still be able to park the car.
Make a line right in the middle between the road and your garage. That way it seems like you have two parking spots back to back but then select the spot closest to the garage to park instead of the one closer to the road👍
Try putting a line across the rear so it has a definite point of reference to stop, not just your garage door. I have a similar area to park at work with only 3 spots on a slight grade and it works.
1) Add a "stop line" to your parking space, whether it is in the back of your garage or in front of the garage door. Teslas do NOT like to cross solid white lines. 2) Try turning the first 20 feet from the road in to dashed lines such as we see on multi-lane streets. 3) Be sure to activate the Homelink system in your Tesla so it can automatically open and close your garage door. 4) Be on the lookout for a clear color paint/tape that is recognized by cameras, but mostly invisible to humans. 5) Be on the lookout for heat-activated road-marking tape that would last a lot longer. Keep on trying. Don't give up. Each failure is an opportunity, just ask Elon.
Won't the tape come off after some water or rain? How long do the line have to be? I was thinking of chalking or painting a short line so it can position to back into garage
I appears to me that it’s programmed to stop when the nose of the vehicle reaches at or near the start of the line. Since it’s assumed that a parking space is of a certain length, it would be logical to consider the remaining tape length marks the opposite parking space.
Well done! BYW - Vision Assisted auto park is great when you’re in a nearly empty parking lot and can choose from a dozen or 2 spots. Teslas keep getting better.❤❤❤
I would not be surprised if a Tesla engineer sees this video and make some tweaks to the leveller system In the car that monitors the ground height to 1 or 2 degrees from the rear and this is instantly fixed.
if I had to guess, its something they programmed in that rather than try and pull in as far as it can, but rather to the point that the front of the car is out of the way of the traffic (fully in the parking spot)
This has given me an idea. Summon refuses to pull out of my garage door, I wonder if I tape lines inside my garage if that would give it the confidence to pull through
Just yesterday, sitting at a light in the left lane, the parallel parking icon came up in the right lane between two cars, that were also waiting at the light... So, still some work to be done with auto-park. ty
you gonna have to paint a few big handicap parking signs in the spots next to and below where you want it to park so it pick the correct one close to the garage ♿
i noticed the mirrors auto folding based on your location which i assume recognizes as "home", how do you set that up? i like to park very close on the passenger side to give room for us to walk between both cars and i fold the mirrors manually to get in the door then unfold them back once in side. It would be cool if it did it for me
OK that was cool. I have a sidewalk, a steep driveway, and am the house before the end of the street where the road turns away from us. The first time ariving home it almost pulled straight into the neibors driveway since its basically straight ahead when coming down the road. I still may give it a shot for fun. Will it find a spot in forward and reverse or just forward? Looked like it finding the spot was a bit inconsistant.
This is pretty cool, I hope that you figure it out, but I would keep playing with it. I still like having control of the vehicle though when it comes to stuff like this.
Wouldn’t auto-summon do this? Someone (CfTesla) did a video maybe 4 years ago showing his Tesla parking itself actually inside his garage using auto-summon. I don’t have FSD, so I don’t even know if auto-summon is still a feature that’s available, or if they’ve pulled it until it works (or works better). So if anyone reads this and can tell me, I’d appreciate it. Also, does auto-park allow you the option to pull directly into a space rather than back in? Anyway…love your videos. Thanks for all the info you put out there. I e learned a lot from them.
I have the feature where u leave the car, and it backs itself into the garage but I don't trust it. It's hard to stop the car from outside when it's about to hit the door frame.
End result is very human… you get what you get and don’t get upset. Do we ever get exactly what we want from humans? What would happen if you lines into your garage or started it again from where it stopped… with a little help. I know that wouldn’t be “auto park”. Thanks again for the video.
Make a video where you just admit that you've given up on life and have become the ultimate in lazy. My dad would have whupped my tail if I ever mentioned automatic parking, because a man doesn't need that shit. Does your car also make your gynecology appointments?
Tesla should make an OTA where you can mark and position your own parking spot on the navigation screen.
This makes the most logical sense.
I did this using chalk to draw a parking spot a month ago. It worked and my Model Y parked exactly where I needed it for charging !
Same trick I did with KARR, will buy the tape and see if it lasts longer than chalk....
I will try this for my Y! 👍🏻
It would be funny to see tesla owners painting lines on the driveway. Lol. I'm sure it will eventually just pull in the garage

All the adhesive phone mounts suck and they melt off after a couple weeks. I recommend the ugreen phone mount that has a clamp instead of adhesive
That was creative. Cool experimentation to watch. Gives the developers more to think about.
Thanks!

Think about parking lots. The stalls are usually only long enough to hold the car. Not have an extra 8 to 10 feet behind.

Tesla Y just under 30days.

I wonder if you put up a cross line, a little further up, if it will pull in further to get all they way in the "spot"
Good effort. Maybe tape to the rear of the spot would tell it where to park back to?
you gonna have to paint a few big handicap parking signs in the spots next to and below where you want it to park so it pick the correct one close to the garage ♿
Try another line running perpendicular to those two. Maybe nearer the house? Perhaps it would back up to that new line and not abort?

Hi
I have Model Y 2024|
I Just tested, it did the same thing, it canceled in the same place as your car, My driveway does not have any slope
Very cool experiment, and I love your garage (and home)! Very beautiful!
Hello, can you advise the best All season tire for model y ?
Hey good job trying it. It technically did see the spot in your driveway. Nice testing though :)
maybe split the spot front to back although I doubt it will go over the split line.
That's awesome , great idea, will it park if you navigate in Auto pilot to your house?
Interesting experiment. Nice try!
Thanks!
Dude... we just got a Tesla and I had this thought. Leaving this comment early in anticipation!!!
Did you try from different direction too?
Great test. Not disappointed.
Can you try put the tape inside your garage? Will that work?
4:52 thank you 🤦♂️
imagine coming home and another tesla is parked in that spot. lol
I have the exact same thoughts except I bought 4 inch wide tape on Temu which is much cheaper
That would work too.
Your neighbors must get a laugh out of you trying to park 10 times in a row.
Also make a blog about how to charge Laptop (Specifically HP that requires 150 W AC outlet or 100 W USB C) in Tesla Model Y …
You just gave me a project to do on my driveway 😅
what if you put the tape on the floor inside the garage. then back the car up to the entrance then activate autopark???
Tried that. Doesn't like it. Could be the slope.
@@iowatesla It is the slope.....works in my garage with just chalk lines...
This is pretty cool, I hope that you figure it out, but I would keep playing with it. I still like having control of the vehicle though when it comes to stuff like this.
Have you tried this again since 12.5.4? If so, what has been your experience?
Not yet. Plan to soon. I think the problem is that even if the lines are long, the car will only "see" a spot long enough for the car.

Yes. If you have it. I have it but anyone with a Tesla without ultrasonic sensors, doesn't have the feature yet.
@@iowatesla Thanks!

Your lines are too long. They need to be a lot further back. It’ll still back all the way to the garage. Mine does.
great test !
Get reflective tape !
Great idea. Thanks
maybe painting a P sign on the desired spot to park
Maybe a wider white lines?
nice
Thanks
That will save you so much time :)
Not really. Was just interested to see if it worked.
@@iowatesla I know, just kidding :)
How about an end line?
I wish I had a garage for my model 3, can I have one of yours?
You would need to move to Iowa. :)
@@iowatesla I already do 🙃

No HOA here. Just tape. Comes right off.

This guys is 100% a TSLA shareholder
I’m not actually.
Lmaoooo no shot this is so smart 😂
God i just need the stock to pop off so i can afford a tesla
…so’s Christmas.
Who knows...
guys its fully self driving
you just click the button and it works flawlessly every time
its not beta
its not supervised
Still too slow and needs to be self driving
If " auto park " only works in parking lots then its not auto park.
