Discovered this musical gem at MoMA in HK last week. Gigi's artistry has enchanted me, making me an instant fan. *Constantly replaying on my playlist. 🎶
Funk had for decades been non-existent in Hong Kong, and here it's a case of better late than never. I really appreciate Gigi Cheung's choice of musical style for this track. One comment underneath actually criticised the song for having a simpler compositional structure to usual Cantonese tracks - revealing quite simply that they aren't used to recurring basslines as typical of funk. This is the sort of senseless criticism that Gigi would have to face in a place like Hong Kong. In this sense, I applaud Gigi for her courage.
