    We bought a 2012 BMW 128 convertible 6 months ago and we love our "drivers" car. N52, E88. MJ's daily driver is a 2014 Lexus is250, small v6 vs 3l inline. Two totally different experiences. Both cars are great in their own situations. Now that we own both I would sell the Lexus if needed just for the fun factor of the BMW. Because I can work on the BMW for routine maintenance from experience with from buying a 1996 328iC I fixed up for my teenage daughter. I was also broke in the 70's and 80's and learned to turn a wrench on many models of cars.

    To Nathan's point...
    I'm 53, never married, no kids, no mortgage, and I make about 70 - 75 K a year. I own a 2011 BMW 328i with an inline 6. I've never worked on it myself, I'm not mechanically inclined and have zero desire to work on any car. If something happened/ happens to it I bring it to the dealer to fix it. But like Nathan said, if you can't afford to buy a BMW because you can't afford to have it fixed or don't know how to fix it yourself,you might not want to buy one.

      @kevin theman Driven German and Swedish vehicles almost exclusively since I was given a 1974 Opel Manta in 1985 as a 16th birthday present.
      Should have been the worst car in the world...a German GM.
      Still have it.
      Since then I have owned all the German marques from VW to Porsche.
      I maintain them according to the manufacturers recommendations and they have all proven reliable.
      Each has been driven between 250 to 300k miles before being replaced.
      German cars get a bad reputation because the subsequent owners usually aren't in the finical position to maintain them.
      The 16 yr old using his 15 yr old 3-series to deliver pizza complains of problems brought on by lack of maintenance.
      A lot of people driving German cars are repeat buyers so they must have been satisfied.

    Nathan, I know you love BMW's and are one of the most determined guys when it comes to fixing them. I'm a retired auto tech. Own an older mercedes wagon and love it. Never had a problem repairing it. I bought an E90 last year, then as I got to know all the quirks and issues, I bought the Pro Tool to iron out the problems. But, I couldn't wait to sell it because it was like an accident waiting to happen. Toyota's are in a class by themselves when it comes to reliability. Can't even compare a Bimmer to a Toyota. Love your videos! PS: My daily driver is an Nissan Altima 2015. Yes it has the CVT, but I keep it serviced and installed an external trans cooler and it makes the difference. I've had NO issues with the CVT as a result.

    Like you, I have both (2008 Tundra 5.7 4x4 Dbl Cab and a 2010 BMW 328i with sport package). I enjoy driving my BMW way more than my Tundra because I enjoy the sporty ride and luxury features, and it defrosts much quicker than my Tundra. With that said, for long distance drives to the beach or Florida (I live in TN), I always take my Tundra because I know it will always bring me home.

    I just got my first car, an Oxford green 2000 540i (yes, with the REAL M-Sport package), and found that a previous owner flipped the rearview mirror upside down. This has the rather pleasant side effect of matching the shape of the mirror frame to the shape of the rear C pillars when you look though it. It also tucks the red bulb up and out of the way, and doesn't hinder the automatic wiper function (at least I think that's what it's for, correct me if I'm wrong). Just thought y'all'd like to know. 😁

    E39 528i 1999, Best car I've had to date, Bought for £500, pound's with. 90.000 miles on it, But BMW told the previous owner that the gearbox was shot! It wasn't new oil cooler and oil change, is all it needed , I Drove it for seven years, with no problems, ABS ECU shit itself, fixed it for £250 with a second hand unit. Other than that, it never missed a beat, Just regular services. Now have a E46 330i M sport coupe, 2006 , Nice car, but I still have a soft spot for the old 5 series, The Japanese cars are reliable, but they have no soul ! Oh yes, sold the 5 For 3 times what I paid for it after seven years and 60.0000 miles. 😁

      I have worked as bmw tech and Toyota tech. Trust me Toyota have more problems than bmw. Also Toyotas are a lot more difficult to work on. Interesting fact BMW actually gets real life techs to work on vehicles during the engineering development stages to ensure the vehicles will be ergonomic to work on, as well as being time efficient to replace parts if needed to keep warranty claim costs down. Toyota do not do this, bastards to work on. once working on a 1996 Toyota Mr2 I was thinking mmm change leaking water pump or slam balls in drawer.. Which would be less painful....

    I've had several E38's, a few E36 and they've all kept me outside wrenching for something that broke. I'm older now and wrenching is getting just as tired now so, Toyota products will do it for me. Oil, tire, brake pad, battery and windshield wiper blade changes are a beautiful thing to me. If something breaks (which isn't often) I'm OK to fix it due to my experience with European cars and trucks. Great video as usual Nathan!

      Timing belts, water pumps, rotted out exhaust, OIL PUMP SEAL leak on a 99 camry. Worst oil leaks ive ever seen in my life. And though wasnt hard for me to repair by myself. Someone whos never worked on a car, let alone time an engine might ruin there engine while attempting to repair. Not like it matters they have to fix it. All the oil leaks out as if u had a hole in your oil. Toyotas main problem is rot.

    I think love, willing to research before buying and dedication for a BMW is what drives someone to own a BMW. When I bought my E46, I learned so much on how to keep it going and building my confidence to troubleshoot vacuum leaks I had that were making my 325i idle rough which is common flaw on the M54 engine. I'm happy with my E46, even if she costed a little more in repairs but she drives better than any other car I've had.

    You can't even compare a basic Toyota to a BMW that's just ridiculous. But Lexus only beats BMW in engine reliability other then that BMW destroys Lexus.

    • @mcgyverb1664
      @mcgyverb1664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zion lords bmw is a better buy for the money, Lexus IS a complete waste, after 100k mileage Lexus has no horsepower, complete donkey.

    • @mcgyverb1664
      @mcgyverb1664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jason T there’s no doubt Toyota Lexus has a better reliability, but unless you drive a bmw long term, you will not realize that the Germans offer better performance, and handling, Toyota Lexus IS mediocre, especially when they reach 100k mileage, it’s like beating a donkey, a turbocharged bmw will still feel like a brand new vehicle no matter how many mileage, no matter how many years old, they still perform better than the Japanese, and this what put German engineering above average, their only downfall is the excessive use of plastic materials, but once routine maintenance is done, bmw is the best.

    • @mcgyverb1664
      @mcgyverb1664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason T I own both Lexus, and bmw, and from my own personal experience, the Germans are better at delivering performance, and handling for the rest of the vehicles entire lifespan based on routine maintenance, Lexus Toyota considerably has a better reliability because they are basic built naturally aspirated engines, and they lose considerably amount of horsepower with age, and mileage, you cannot put a 2005 Lexus with 100k mileage to run against a 2005 bmw with 200k mileage, because that bmw is definitely gonna kick it’s ass, German engines are bulletproof, the inline 6 twin turbocharged engine will remain delivering enough horsepower, and perform better than a donkey Toyota Lexus.

    • @mcgyverb1664
      @mcgyverb1664 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason T either way you slice it the Germans have better engines over the Japanese, if you focus just on the motor in a German vehicle, it’s far better value than any Japanese engine, what makes bmw complicated is the excessive use of plastic, and we all know it’s being used for profitable purposes, but in the long run, I would rather spend my money on a German vehicle, just because the engine is Teflon, Lexus Toyota drivers don’t understand when you tell them these vehicles Lack performance with age, it’s like beating a donkey, and you won’t see the difference until you sit in an Audi, Benz, or a bmw, then you realize that the Germans are above the mediocre.

    • @mcgyverb1664
      @mcgyverb1664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason T Japanese motors becomes a donkey with high mileage, useless slow junk, stepping on the gas pedal will get you nowhere fast enough, after 100k mileage they worthless.

I think they are concentrating on the newer vehicles as they see more potential for more views.

      You are right, he gets over 1000 views a day. He doesn't care about the viewers anymore, it's about making easy content. Work 10mins a day for a decent wage. His videos on fixing things are from earlier days and were ordinary at best. He is not even a mechanic. No clue how to fix cars just slightly more of an idea than a lot of viewers. I'm a bmw tech and watch his videos for a laugh at how these hacks pretend to know what they doing. It's a joke. And I love hearing how he trys to tell if a part is good or not "it's kinda good kinda not, I might replace it anyways" wtf. Blind teaching the blind.

    When I think about Hondas and Toyotas, I think about something I read a long time ago about the kinda of people that bought Ramblers 50 years ago; “They are the perfect cars for people who don’t care anything about cars!”. Yeah, I know there are and always have been some quicker sporty Toyota models, but their bread and butter has always been 4 door sedans that are best described as “nice” ... but they don’t break. I have never owned a Toyota (but driven a few) and I’ve owned a few Hondas ... nothing wrong with them except they bored me to tears. So, here is the deal; buy yourself a 3-5 year old Toyota to get you to work, etc. and buy yourself a 25 year old BMW for fun. Find the nicest six cylinder e34 or e36 you can find for $4,500.00 tops. You’ll get a nice one for that much if you look ... clean, 135k or less, not beat or beat up. You will do enough wrench twisting to challenge yourself and have fun, the parts are cheap, and (other than cheap interiors) the cars are great! The Toyota will be completely happy living on the driveway while the BMW will “require” the garage! Everybody wins!

I loved the way it looked on the outside but the interior is super cheap and just way behind on all the tech stuff. Their premium sound system is trash! Their reverse camera looks like a 1990s web cam! Super disappointing for a brand new 2020 truck. If you go to countries where there are no mechanics on every corner of the city, such as Africa, there is also no BMW. As for build quality and driving pleasure, you have Lexus that is as good or better than the BMW. Toyota has iconic models, such as the Corola Levim, Celica, Supra and others. The price you will need to buy a used Toyota supra mark 4 in Germany , buys all BMW models of the same year.

      atrain132 BMWs value plummets after the initial purchase. The same is true for most german cars. Japanese cars dont depreciate as fast. there was a time when german cars were the best built but i dont think thats true any more. I feel like german auto makers are relying on the name alone to sell cars and lagging in the quality... just like how every bmw has an M badge... its a gimmick now.. used to be only for actual M cars. They are building these cars to last a lease term then expect people to swap them out when the warranty is up. Then some poor sucker buys up the lease return with no warranty and thinks they are getting a sweet deal on a newish bmw...

    Here’s the truth, bmw is a better vehicle engine wise, performance, and handling will be an addiction, only downfall is expensive excessive maintenance, Toyota Lexus has long term reliability, but after 100k these vehicles are donkeys, they suck at performance with age.

      They're generally , uglier as well with very thin metals. Never liked Japanese and Korean cars.

      Trisdoo o yea the Germans are better, they are worth the money in the long run, Toyota Lexus has reliability, but they don’t have lifetime horsepower, with high mileage, Japanese motor becomes an old donkey 🐴that cannot keep up with high speed traffic.

    I just hate bmws for their horrible mechanical design, and they just don’t suit me. I have a Toyota Corolla and it has never given me an issue, but it is a plain car. For the weekends I would go with a 5.0 or a Challenger Hemi.

    I have yet to see a Bmw with high mileage without having problems with their components at low or high mileage cause i bought a 2018 Bmw 4 series my brother couldn’t turn on because when he did all the lights came on and and turned off they had too towed the vehicle and what was the cause a faulty low fuel pressure pump and computer modules just remember that Toyota are the best selling vehicles just to let you know not Bmw i disagree with you they are quiet and Lexus are better than Bmw in many ways.

    I am a BMW tech of 16 years. If I make videos on how to actually diagnose problems with bmws and step by step how to fix them will people be interested to view them? Or are people more interested in listening to this hack waffle on about BS?

      The channel is popular because it demystifies BMW ownership for the DIY guy. There is need for detailed step by step videos, but you have to make it somewhat interesting too. I like Eric of the South Main Auto Repair LLC for that kind of video, but he doesn't do German cars. Watch Eric, then produce step by step videos like that for German cars. Eric is especially adapt a fixing electrical gremlins. Otherwise, this channel is excellent too.
