Best movie I've ever seen. Probably because of the most excellent message it's sending and also the huge charisma of Christian Slater. It so strongly motivates me every time I watch it..
Happy Harry Hard-On…I was 11 and this was the first R-Rated movie I saw. Over 30 years later I still cry because Those Who Do Not Learn History are DOOMED to Repeat It. Listen to your children.
After watching ‘Pump Up the Volume’, which came out when I was in high school, I became a Leonard Cohen fan. I was blessed to see him in concert in Chicago a few years before he passed onto the next phase. I always enjoy listening to his interviews. His life journey from adolescence to poet, musician, having children, the women in his life, monk, to touring again in his later days. Such a cool guy. I could listen to LC speak about life all day.
"Everybody Knows" by Leonard Cohen is the most truthful song ever made. No one lie stated the whole length of this song. It just shows the brilliance of Leonard Cohen. May he continue to R.I.P.
When I was young, I was a scared wuss. I watched this movie, and I developed an attitude. I then graduated from worthless nerd to the greatest artistic god my highschool has ever seen. Now i'm not afraid to speek, draw or paint what I am. This movie compleatly transformed me into the military badass i am now.
Hell Yeah. Thats what good art is suppose to to for us. It transforms us. Alot of movies and music have done the same thing for me. Break on Through to the Otherside 😎 Rock On 🎶🎹🎤🍻🍄🎆
So do I. I graduated high school in 1990. Was a particular time my life, felt like such an odd ball. Seen this movie and immediately connected with Christian Slater's character. Everyone thought I was like him, the quiet intelligent one. But no one would listen to unless in incognito mode.
i watched this movie for first time when i was like 16 and i really like all about it, the characters, the story and the amazing tracks! also remember to fell in love with that girl 1:15 hahaha, good times! one of my favorite movies ever
+Natalie Garner Christian Slater WAS the 90's. You couldn't turn your head without seeing Christian Slater. By the way... (For you 20 y/o people) Watch "Heat" and "True Romance."
I don't think a lot of kids nowadays could ever appreciate the message from this movie. They don't know what a world without youtube, email, and a computer in ever home was like. Back when you had to go to extraordinary lengths to reach an audience, and when you did reach them you didn't waste it with a bunch of garbage like so many do here. Everybody take all of this stuff for granted. What do they use it for? Attention and Rickrolling people. *sigh*
It's message is something any generation can appreciate. It's the story of adults who are trapped in the system and no longer understand children and teens. The story of youthful contempt for authority and rebellion against it. The story of the leaderless masses finding a voice that unites them.
I Would love to palsy this song and movie at the highest possible volume so the world knows it, still 1 of the greasiest movies and soundtracks of all time,
This song says so much. I wish everyone world wide would just take a moment to really sit down and LISTEN to it. If they did, maybe, just maybe this could be a better world.
own it on dvd... actually own a collection of Christian Slater movies (of my own selection) where he's brilliant in them... and this one is one of them I remember watching many times in high school; and my folks hated. Talk hard!
I'm in total agreement. I've owned the CD soundtrack since '91 with a few burned CD's to save the older original. Some of these songs strike a chord with me and my distant memories.
Love the film love the sound track and love what HHH says TALK HARD! love the thought that words can change things that one voice and alter everything its truly shows life as a kid
Love Leonard Cohen ~~ HOWEVER ~~ first time I heard "EVERYBODY KNOWS" was Christian Slater's character DJing in PUMP UP THE VOLUME ..... [good edit from the movie on this video]
As someone who watched later in the 90’s as a younger child I became addicted of this classic before my time. Addicted to this day. A forever favorite. I can’t imagine what it would of been like to grow up in this time and to of had such a simpler struggle then the struggle of us born in the 90’s struggling to comprehend the bullshit of 2020. Talk hard. No matter who tries to shut you down, stand tall and keep rollin on. Brandan, signing off…
"Everybody knows that you love me baby Everybody knows that you really do Everybody knows that you've been faithful Ah, give or take a night or two Everybody knows you've been discreet But there were so many people You just had to meet Without your clothes... And everybody knows" GENIUS.
thanks to this movie i was radio pirate (legal 10mW only) and im still listen Leonard Cohen ha ha. now im ham radio, and internet radio presenter ha ha. this movie is just a icon something what we lost in cinema - epic deep mood...
Awesome! Reminder of my senior year in high school! One of my favorite movies of all times! I went to a high school that was messed up like the high school in this movie!
The best movie ever.I remember i was so sad from all shit happen in that day but then i remember about this hidden gems on my watch list and ITS THE BEST DECISION EVER.
There is some movies that print your soul for entire life. This movie is one of that i prefer. Like some movies but to only one reason, choose your way, choose your life, but never forget, freedom is the good way. See "Breakfast club" if you are never seen it. (sorry for the approximative english ;-))
Funny thing is that i started to know this song from a korean movie " midnight FM ", Leonard Cohen has a fascinating voice. Soon i try to get my hands on the movie " pump up the volume " as well. Thanks for uploading !
RIP Mr. Cohen, 2016 is really a shitty year. We lost Kilmister, Bowie, Rickman and now you... So sad. I raise a glass of wine to honor your music and you poetry. Fairwell.
En première année de collège 6 ème (en France), je suis allé voir ce film 2 fois. Christian Slater joue parfaitement le rôle. Pour moi, c'est un bon acteur. Ainsi soit il.
This movie is one of the reasons I am a broadcast engineer now. I am about to upgrade the classic rock station which means I get to plug into the transmitter and play what I want while I work. I think this song will be first in the playlist. I mean I kinda have to.
@Fadra-j55Technically I think whatever it is has to be in the station library but that's a lot. It's rare I get to drive unsupervised and most of the time people don't even know except for a lack of commercials, good music and if I am able to use the board/mics or have one recorded a legal id every hour but if I am in the mood I have a little fun with it. I may send an entire listening area to whamhalla this year too.
The movie featured Cohen's version which I loved so much that I purchased the soundtrack album just for that song (I didn't like any of the other tracks from the movie). Imagine my dissapointment when the soundtrack arrived ( I had to order it special from the U.S) and it only contained the Concrete Blonde version, which dosn't appear anywhere in the movie. So although I like some of there other track, Joey ect, I can't listen to there version of everybody knows without feeling ripped off!!!
That's what I thought! I just youtubed the Concrete Blonde version and it didn't sound anything like the one in the movie. I'm watching Exotica and just realized it's the original Leonard Cohen version in both films.
It was supposed to. When the did the test showings they used the Concrete Blonde's on half of them. They expected their frat boy test audiences to prefer the newer one but they got negative reactions to it and positive to Cohen's timeless talent. So the Cohen version got sent to theaters but they had already shipped the soundtrack out to stores with the Concrete Blonde cover on it. They decided it wasn't cost effective to fix it.

Best movie I've ever seen. Probably because of the most excellent message it's sending and also the huge charisma of Christian Slater. It so strongly motivates me every time I watch it..
It's sort of an unofficial sequel to Talk Radio, so you should see that, if you haven't.
For the longest time I tell people this is my favorite movie then Restoration came along,
Which movie
Happy Harry Hard-On…I was 11 and this was the first R-Rated movie I saw. Over 30 years later I still cry because Those Who Do Not Learn History are DOOMED to Repeat It. Listen to your children.
RIP Leonard Cohen!! :( I remember hearing this song when I watched Pump Up the Volume and became obsessed with this song and the movie.

And rightly so! A masterpiece

I love this song and the movie "Pump up the Volume" It brings me back memories of when was teen!!

Tatiana Díaz Yes! Exactly! Love the 90’s!
I‘m almost 40 but this movie is a major reason why i remained young.
Now we crossed the half century. Are you still young?
After watching ‘Pump Up the Volume’, which came out when I was in high school, I became a Leonard Cohen fan. I was blessed to see him in concert in Chicago a few years before he passed onto the next phase. I always enjoy listening to his interviews. His life journey from adolescence to poet, musician, having children, the women in his life, monk, to touring again in his later days. Such a cool guy. I could listen to LC speak about life all day.
Hard rock! Cool.
“Everybody knows”. Such a haunting message and a great song

When I heard this song, I fell in love with Leonard. The words of his songs are incredible.
Best use of the song is in Atom Egoyan’s movie, Exotica. Mia Kirschner strips to the song as Bruce Greenwald shows up every night to watch.
Rest in Peace Mr. Cohen. Thank you for your music. Hallelujah
Rest in Peace, Leonard!

videomolly EXACTLY!! Covers of his genius song just won't do it. The Justice League Sigrid version also don't do anything for me.
That's what I thought! I just youtubed the Concrete Blonde version and it didn't sound anything like the one in the movie. I'm watching Exotica and just realized it's the original Leonard Cohen version in both films.
The Concrete Blonde version absolutely IS in the movie. A true fan would know that.

I love so much this movie 💕 2018
It was supposed to. When the did the test showings they used the Concrete Blonde's on half of them. They expected their frat boy test audiences to prefer the newer one but they got negative reactions to it and positive to Cohen's timeless talent. So the Cohen version got sent to theaters but they had already shipped the soundtrack out to stores with the Concrete Blonde cover on it. They decided it wasn't cost effective to fix it.
So glad we are moving forward in a much more blunt and honest manner so as to not waste too much more time.
No problems with Jack Dorsey.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long-stem rose
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah, give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah, when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows
And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows
And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
Thank you for whole liriks
I love his voice( CS voice)..
This movie was my introduction to Leonard Cohen. Sadly, I got the soundtrack album and his original version of this song was not on it. I had no idea what his name was, and couldn't get his album.
(These days I'd just google the title to find that out, but of course this was pre-internet, otherwise the film would be about a podcaster, not a pirate radio DJ)
Fortunately the song was in the film, Exotica, and managed to get his name by watching the credits frame by frame on tape to get his name
I think also on the soundtrack album Fast Lane by UDS was not on it ...
great piece of music and true by the GREAT Mr Leonard Cohen
One of my best teenage movie, knowing I am a fan of L.cohen, but remember that movie as a choc in movie theater at the time ;-)
gorgeous.
Dystopic Disco.
I have loved Christian Slater.
I heard this song in Applebee's yesterday. I forgot about this song until now. PUMP UP THE VOLUME!!
"Aaaaaaand, I can smell it. I can almost taste it, the rankness in the air. It's everywhere!! It's running through that old pipeline out there and trickling up through the drains of those lovely tract homes we all live in."
