@@lesblack8996 it’s the other way around for me. Waits is the better writer. Cave I am into, but the recent albums are just pretentious rambling to Ellis’s loops, not really band efforts.
My mate's big into him, across his vocal styles, but I've never taken to it. I'm not much younger than Limmy but at least I was aware of TW before having really heard any (I've not heard much tbh). Couldn't pinpoint when I first heard of him though or how, given he wasn't exactly turning up in the TotP studio or kids' tv Saturday mornings in the 80s or whatever.
sometimes he uses his voice to create characters or just to express the song in a different way, some days he can sound like a soulful old black woman, some others he sounds like Captain Beefheart (the best description of his voice from Anthony Fantano: "the rasp of a dirty street beggar who has a chain-smoking problem and swigs rubbing alcohol to pass the time")
I'm only 30/40secs in and my first thought was.... Something to do with a street and one way 🤔, anyone else nahh. This coont obv used Craig's time machine and stole his voice
They've turned the Waits against us
You win 😂😂😂
Golden!
Is that Limmy's voice in character when he sang "WRONG WAY DOWN A ONE WAY STREET"?
Tom Waits sounds exactly like Jacqueline McCaffery
Imagine saying to Limmy "You should look into *blank*, I think you'll like it". Of course he fucking won't like it.
Gotta take a little time to get to know Tom Waits... A little time to think things over!
(MidLifeCrisis EDM starts playing)
a liddle tiem to hink hings ho-ho
I need a little time to think things over
Tom Waits for no man
@@vollsticks but that thing…
Limmy is a legend. Tom Waits is a legend. End of.
Limmy plays ignorant when he's clearly been ripping off Tom Waits' voice for his techno vocals for years
Also the voice of Jacqueline.
Yeah i suppose i always thought he knew about tom waits it's such an unexpected thing for someone so old
Now that you mention it, you're spot on
wrong way down a one way street easily could have been a tom waits song
Some interesting quotes from Limmy here
Yknow I heard he did the opening music for Limmy's show as well

I don’t get it
Shite
He has a beautiful song song called "On the Nickel" but unfortunately half way through he starts singing like Cookie Monster and ruins it
Your lack of curiosity is surprising on this wan, Limmy.
He's a wayward gem, much like you are.
Haven't heard Downtown train for years for now, stunned how his voice is identical to Limmy's cover voice 😅 Can't hear it with a straight face amymore
Techno cover of Downtown Train now, please!
Rich from a guy who used to sound like he huffed helium on the reg.

He was the 'shop keep' from Book of Eli too. 👍
Hey been in loads of films.
Well I hope that you don’t fall in love with him
His missus introduced him to the music of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits never looked back
Title looks like it's just telling me what Limmy and Tom each do.
The first time I heard of him was in the true or false questions on Shooting Stars many moons ago.
True or false?
Tom Waits?
it's a more digestible Captain Beefheart
Tom Waits is an acquired taste I think.
A bit like Nick Cave, only he's brilliant 😁
hey now, dig lazarus dig is a brilliant lp, but I get not liking his mopier stuff
@@namlesone I love Nick Cave's music including the mopey stuff. I think my comment is written badly. It's Tom Waits I couldn't get into.

wrong way, down a one way street - Tom Waits
Really cool video lim. Some interesting quotes from him.
*Wrong way... down a one-way street!*
Wrong Waits down a one Waits streee eeet.
What is the deal with the cards he often holds in front of the camera?
He sort of changed his voise after he started listening to beefheart, now beefheart is the guy to listen to wild vocal range
Heath ledger based his version of the Joker on him.
Limmy is the personification of that old Harry Enfield catchphrase, "you wouldn't let it lie"
Surely that's a Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer catchphrase.
Wrong way, down a one way straieeet.
Tom Waits was a big influence on Heath Ledgers joker.
the ultimate crossover
Wrong Waits down a one-wait street!

That’s about right I reckon. An acquired taste…takes time to adjust but when you do, it’s worth it
