      Yeah, I don't get what is so great about a 1x ... Less weight? Probably negligible compared to the weight of most people.. One less shifting lever?

      @@bmzaron713 1 less derailleur means 1 less thing to worry about, maintenance or shifting wise . Also in my opinion, it looks cleaner.

      I still find front shifter better than 1x more power and adjustments not easy to maintain though

      Harry Bounden nah if ur gonna ride proper dh then you will never get into those gears and it adds weight and it’s confusing thats why you see no front derailleur on any modern bike

    Wow...thank you. On hols in France and took my old bike in case it got stolen off the car. It would not go on the big cog on the front chainset. After watching your great video I manged to fix it (after quite some time of faffing before watching the video) All set for happy holiday cycling thank you so much.

    I still use my Trek 8000 from 1989 that has a 3x setup. I needed to adjust my front derailleur and this video made the process very easy.

    Excellent instructions. Worked like a charm! Also, my limit screws (for whatever reason) were stripped partway down the bolt, so they would adjust the limits properly. Substitute in a few Allen bolts (M5) instead of the silly Phillips screws and it works perfectly. Thanks for your tips!

    Few months ago bought a brand new bike, i intentionally went for a 2x system, so it has a 2x12. I have no regrets, and probably never will, it's just so easy to ride anywhere.

    I've watched many videos for this now... but yours was the one that allowed me to fix my 15 year old hyper abused and never adjusted front mech that had even stopped me from shifting into top as the cable was to tight... I couldn't even switch up as I had to pull on the cable so hard

    Your videos are great as always! I am rebuilding a vintage hard tail and have been looking for a video from a trusted source on how to properly install and tension a new front derailleur cable. This has been the toughest part. GMBN and Park Tool are the only sources I trust.

    Good video...would love to see examples of what some of the common problems are. like where that height measurement of cage to sprocket should be taken, or what the impact is when the cage is just slightly out of parallel. Seems like I’ll always get it shifting just right but always have just a bit of rub in only one or 2 gears. Another thing that I see a lot of is the chain rubbing the cage on just one side of the pedal stroke. Thoughts?

    Wow this is one of the best videos for bicycling/ offering ideas on gear combinations and what to look out for.. I guess everyone today uses their bikes to climb big mountains so only have a 1X but for people who live in flat areas, this is great info !!!!

    Great video. Some videos can be too complicated, especially for people with older brains, like me 😁. Virtually every time I adjust my derailleur I end up referring to TH-cam, this video explains things easily and doesn't over complicate things more than it needs to.

    I'm always in the road with my mtb. So, a 3x offer ah high gear on a flat road. This is very helpfull.

      @@dido1803 Easiest way, just grind down all the teeth on the big chainring, then tighten down the high limit screw on the front derailleur so you can't shift onto it any more. So the big chainring becomes the bash ring.

    I have a Specialized Tri-Cross I bought in 2010 with a Shimano triple front and derailer. I was going nuts trying to fix it until I saw this video. I didn't even know front derailers were being done away with.

    Just what I was looking for, wished I checked on the YT earlier, I have an early 2000's Diamondback Sorrento Sport, awesome old school MTB, bloody well near unbreakable but I was having issues with the front triple chainwheel set not shifting properly. I never thought of adjusting near the gear changing unit...will get on that tomorrow. All bike shops are closed in Sydney AU atm due to Covid shutdowns.....grrrrr

    Good video, I am bout to operate on my deraileur, at present it won't change to small or large ring. Watching this video I believe both inner and outer screws need ajusting.

    Great video, as usual, Don't suppose you could do a video on converting from a 2x to 1x and go over chain line issues and if you would need a new chain etc.

    I would suggest to do a Video of what to do If the crankarms on a sqare tapered axle are whobbeling.
    I do already know that in this case you have to tighten the BB- shell on the nds. But once I also tried to tighten the crankbolt to it's maximum.

    Do you adjust the limit screws with the cable unclamped or clamped again? I wasn't sure as you never said you clamped it back but in the video the cable is clamped back on before you adjusted the limit screws. Sorry if this is s dummy question.

    To get onto my largest sprocket I have to push the shifter a bit, what adjustment do I need? It will not shift if I just click it once like it does for the other two.

    Does rotor design compound make a difference in its stopping power? Comparing 2pot 203mm cheaper rotor to 4pot 180mm expensive rotor? Would they cancel each other out or one better then other?

    Im setting up a brand new Shimano Tiagra double. Height/anlge & Limit screws are set perfectly. Barrel run all the way in with a couple clicks out. Cable taught. Then i shift up to high and it rubs on the outer cage, so i run out the inline barrel adjuster but it maxes out to get it to stop rubbing. But it does stop rubbing…Then i check shifting again down to small ring and now thats rubbing chain to inner cage bc i tightened the cable so much im getting a false limit. Back and forth with same results. Got any advice??

    With luck I'll figure it out tomorrow. Right now, still a blur. I know. I know. It's simple....well, maybe tomorrow..Months ago, I paid a mechanic to adjust the derailleurs. But the the front one never worked.

    I have just fitted a pare of v- brake and gear lever combernaion which is a 3 / 7 . The rear gears work fine and travel through with every click but the front derailleur isn't , what is happening is I start of in the small chain wheel and click it once and it moves straight onto the latest I've tried reducing the tention and it has made no difference. Please help !!!

    I volunteer mechanic at my local bike park, I have to work with front derailleurs and find that a some are loose because of wear or stiff because they need cleaning. Just other reason why after you have followed this video you could be having problems.

    I have issues with a really tight front derailleur, is there any way i can release the tension from the spring? The shifter works fine when i disconnect the wire from the front derailleur.

      Yep! On the front derailleur, that is. On the rear derailleur, the "low" is the innermost sprocket and the "high" is the outermost sprocket. Just think "high gear = fast; low gear = slow"

    Hi, I'm looking to get a new hardtail frame and initially finding it hard to decide between the Nukeproof Scout 275 or 290, I'm 6'1" but like a bike I can throw about a bit on the trails and I quite like the occasional trials in the woodlands, so was moving more towards the 275, what are your thoughts. The other frame I was looking at is the Commencal Meta ht am. Any advice you have in these bikes or sizes would be helpful.
