Yeah beating him pre patch was total bs I could never dodge him reliably and that charge has inconsistent damage and the hitboxes are garbage. ETA: since he was moved away from the fog gate the fight was more manageable and dodging him was easier but the charge with the multiple hit and hit box nonsense is there just more tolerable yesterday I beat him in 2 tries.

I love Commander Gaius. Fighting him's a little annoying because he's a Tree Sentinel with gravity magic, but the real reason I love him is seeing everyone rage while losing to him 😂 I always absolutely floor Gaius so to me he's not so bad aside from his 5 or 6 attack combo. The boss that makes me consistently rage is Putrid Knight that you beat a while back. As well as one you'll be fighting soon following Manus Metyr questline. No though, Gaius has some of the best lore in the DLC no cap. He's an Albanauric actually so he has no legs. You can buy his armor set from Roundtable Hold all except the pants, because he has no legs. Yet in the area behind his boss rooms grace you'll find an Albanauric woman on a wolf by a destroyed house. If you kill her you get his pants, I presume that's his wife or lover. No though it's sad because his pants description says "These were made though Gaius has no legs as a cruel joke". So my poor boy has no legs and has to use his faithful Boar to be able to move around. Also Gaius is/was Messmers best friend and commander of his army, and if that wasn't cool enough either his armor or Remembrance states that both he and Messmer were older brothers to the Lion AKA Radahn. On top of them beind elder brothers to Radahn both Gaius and Radahn learned gravity magic from the same Alabaster Lord from whom Gaius was the elder disciple hence why he had more gravity magic than Radahn. Before I end this comment some tips I wanna give. To get the best lore beat of the DLC thoroughly explore the flowery area behind that statue you unlocked. When you find Shaman Village explore as much as possible. Lastly you prolly got the Crimson Seed +1 talisman this episode. That's my favorite talisman in the game, and you might wanna use it for the rest of this DLC because it boosts your healing by 30%. To explain how big that is to you: your flasks currently heal you for 810 HP with that talisman your flasks would heal for 1,150 HP PER FLASK!! For a DLC where enemies hit like trains it's so valuable. Apologies for the long comment but I hope you have a good one Square 🔥✌🏻

Why does nobody use Torrent for this fight? It's so much more fun when you're both racing back and forth, dashing just out of his hits and swiping at him every time he makes the mistake of not moving for a second.
Idk but I think it is because Torrent dies so fast and then you are stuck on the ground for several seconds while he has free time to hit you. But when I get to him I will definitely try using torrent.
@@ChaosDraguss yeah, I remember fighting him with Torrent and using the sacred black steel twin blade, which is really strong against Gaias because he’s really weak holy damage, and the gripe I had fighting him was that Torrent can die pretty easily to him. However, I was doing around 1600-2000 damage per swing against him, so I just learned how to fight with Torrent and I killed him in a couple tries later.
I tried, just like I tried tree sentinel and the basic dragon fight the same way in the base game. Hated every minute of it. Just don't find the mounted combat satisfying. Torrent is there to get me from A to B faster, and then I'm hopping off to throw down.

Rather than knowing when to dodge, you need to know when to change direction. Only move that I found really hard to avoid while mounted was the floating charge in his second phase, which is easy ignore by just using the dismount s. Oh, and please ignore that one time I dismounted mid-jump in his first phase. Meant to jump over him, accidentally held the left stick down too hard.

Torrent makes the fight harder Giaus is faster than Torrent and can brake Torrents stance with 2 hits
