Even a white friend of mine once made fun of how Indian female singers sound so high pitch. He must've heard Lata helium balloon in an Indian restaurant trying to sound uber-feminine. Listening to this composition for the very first time. She has been one of the finest singers of that time. In fact one of the best when it comes to Punjabi folk. We still have her Punjabi Vivah Geet audio cassette and believe me, it's a pleasure to listen to her voice. Rare treasure. Another artist whom I remember from my childhood is Ataullah sahab. No one is even close to him when it comes to expressing pain.

This is how female singers are everywhere including in the US. Bollywood set a very wrong precedent with Lata trying to sound like a helium balloon. Even a white friend of mine once made fun of how Indian female singers sound so high pitch. He must've heard Lata helium balloon in an Indian restaurant trying to sound uber-feminine. Compare that to Abida Parveen, QB and so many Pakistani female singers who sing naturally instead of trying to sound like bimbos.
