The interesting thing about this is at the time Rick James was known for “You & I” and
“Mary Jane” type funk. With this he went back to his Buffalo NY soul music days. He and Teena lit up the airwaves with this slow jam classic🎼🔥

My mom LOVED this song. She had this on cassette when my sister and I were kids, along with "Feel the Fire" with Stephanie Mills and Teddy Pendergrass, and two Atlantic Starr songs "Secret Lovers" and "If You're Heart Isn't in It."
This song was my introduction to both Rick James and Teena Marie. I never heard "Super Freak" until the late '90s.

Cool, this was the slow jam!!!! Remember seeing them live singing this on stage in Washington DC and they brought the house down. Rick James the king of Punk Funk slowing it down and blowing it with soul and compassion. Along with a young lady that he wrote for and helped bring out as an artist named Teena Marie who had an old school soul voice! Her vocals and his vocals showed how much they really liked and loved each other. Without a doubt in the slow jam top five You have to be old school to understand this classic. 🎤🎶🎼🎵❤️

This is a major classic! If you want an awesome duet from the 80's react to the live version of LAKESIDE killer duet "I Need You" This is one of the most underrated duets with the two lead singers (2 guys) of this group putting it down.

If you want to continue with the theme of "Duets of The 80s", you really should check out their other song together., "Happy" I actually like that one better than this. Rick James also did a GREAT song with Smokey Robinson. "Ebony Eyes." Which was a serenade to Black women.
Remember that Teena❤was sick before she recorded this. She went to the ER after this with like a 104 degree temperature. She was on fire and so is this song. 🔥
