The more Peter Khatcherian videos I watch, the more I like this guy. I've been guilty of trying to get too complicated in the gym, and overthinking my routine. Peter has a great way of explaining how it's best to keep everything simple, and avoid the complicated crap.
I've been lifting for 40 years ans I can say, your channel gives the best common sense advice I've ever heard. It's like I'm listening to myself lol. I tease my son that his generation is gonna have the best rear Delta in history because they all do 25 sets of face pulse from 17 angles but skip bench , incline , pull down , Bent rows, stiff deads, squants, militaries, cg bench and bb curls
💯😂 I'm so sick of all this fancy shit going around rn and people doing wack exercises kus its more "optimal" completely ignoring the fact that they can't be loaded effectively
It's sad to see most of the kids just doing legs and glutes, face pulls, and rotator cuff exercises. It's bizarre. No one lifts heavy or optimally and they all look small.
Been lifting about 9 months now at 27, I goofed off in the gym for about 2 years at 16-17. But I found your channel a couple months back and it’s great! Simply approach’s and no bs just hard work! Thanks Peter for all your great videos, I am going to incorporate a arm day.
I’m 5’11” and 195…. I think my mirror is broke because I look nothing like that. Amazing how much body fat I’m carrying. Love your channel. I’m 2 months in and gained 10 pounds and the change is remarkable. Your advice has helped more that any other. Thanks 🙏
As a young boy training, I would use a preacher curl, and perform a drop set, aiming for 12 reps, and 3 sets. I would then go over to the cable station, and using a rope attachment, would perform cable hammer curls, also using a drop set. This combo absolutely blew up my arms.
You didn’t mention the brachialis. The biceps is the “show” muscle, but the underlying brachialis builds volume. Hammer or pinwheel curls target the brachialis.
I never really loved BB curls... until I got an arm blaster and an ez-curl bar. Completely changed the exercise for me. Maybe that's because preacher curls are one of my all time favorite exercises. I noticed you didn't mention hammer curls. I like being able to load heavy DB hammer curls without much tendon issues, it feels like it helps keep my elbows happy. These days I do mostly cables for triceps. French press and BB skullcrushers bother my elbows a little too much. I do like DB skull crushers, especially if you focus on the stretch 💪
Amazing stuff! All your videos are so well done and very useful. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Have you ever used any of these custom meal plan tools? I got one from Next Level Diet to help me add some muscle and I actually like their plans. Was just wondering if you've heard of or tried any of them yourself. Thank you!
Pete's got a sense of humor? Damn, I don't think I've ever seen this dude even crack a smile, but out of nowhere he slides Jeff Nippard on the screen. Great advice and great video!
Peter the best thing I learned from you is doing incline curl on a flat bench, which I do on a 15 degree bench, did and is doing wonders to my lagging biceps, thank you.
I use 15 degree incline bench curls both hammer-to-supinated curls, hammer curls and pronated curls for upper brachioradialis growth, and machine preacher curls for lower brachioradialis growth. Good stuff.
btw those reading my above comment, when I said brachioradialis I am refering to pronated (palms down) curls in both 15 degree incline and machine preacher curls. I go heavy as heavy as need be but don't do full rom as brachioradialis is mostly effective upto, if I remember correctly, 40 degrees of elbow flexion, so I choose a weight to do to that or a bit beyond that angle, so heavy loading in effective range of motion is equating to faster growth for my girly forearms :)) that are soon to be more manly. :))
These are some solid movements for sure, all the upper arm functions covered. I like to have at least 1 alternative for all my exercises for when a movement gets stale (still in the same movement pattern), so for example: barbell/EZbar curls, dumbbell/cable overhead extension, V-bar/rope pushdown etc. This way I can swap something out if it gets stale or I start to develop some nagging pain. Not always needed but something to think about!
Good exercise is overhead v bar triceps extension with a bench up against a cable rack. Weight set on bottom/lowest latch and seat facing away from the rack..
Best information I've come across on the TH-cam. I would expect to pay a lot of money for this sort of information. Thank you appreciate what you're doing.💪
I agree. I do most of these exercises, and to be honest, I don't even worry about loading too much, because I tend to develop pain in my elbows. At 180lbs I currently have 17.7 inch arms started a new split and my arms are gowing again: torso limbs off torso legs arms and shoulder isolation
I’ve been lifting for years now I’m 22 but after coming across ur channel I have made some adjustment and tweaks to my training that have helped me a lot 💯
I’m not a bodybuilder in any way, I’m more of a semi-fat strength enthusiast, but your content is among the best and most helpfull out there. I’ve put on loads of muscle and by virtue of that, strength by using your methods 💪🏻 The pullover was a gamechanger for me, blowing up my overhead strength and tricep size. Thank you for your great work!
I do at least 15 sets of 10 for curls with barbell and dumbbell for hammer curls then end of with cable. then another 15 sets for triceps using dip bar, barbell, skull crusher dumbbell, cable and end off with resistance band.
Quality content as always! The only difference in my training is with the triceps in a stretch position always feels better for me on a cable overhead extension with ropes
I'm close to 48, 6ft2, 185lbs with 18% body fat. I was 260 a year ago. I lost my weight by eating differently and its is easy and comfortable now to maintain. What I want to do now is shape and strengthen my body and that's why I'm here
Okay, great. There is also a routine from Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty Training by exercising with a Pre-exhaust system whereby you do a warm-up set of dumbbells curls, or barbell curls, then a warm-up set of Under-grip Pulldowns. Then for the work, or hard set - or maybe up to 2 work sets for advanced trainee - a work set of heavier curls, then almost immediately into an work set of heavier Undergrip pulldowns. However, the weight of the Undergrip pulldowns should be a bit less to get to at least to the 6, 7 to 10, or 12 repetition range.🏋
Hi Peter, I’ve been following you as your old style training seems to help me as being an older man, 60next month feb 26th My problem is I’m 6’6” tall weighing 126kgs only 20% fat which I’m happy with but strong arms and no matter what I try 17 and a half inches But I do have similar arms to an orangutan 🦧 lol I’m also natural as at 60 I ain’t gonna be competing lol But will try these I’ve set myself a goal first of all of a 20kg plate either side on an EZ bar for skull crushers I’m currently four reps with 15kgs either side I’d just like 19” arms like you lol All the best keep up the excellent videos All the best Big Sean (UK)👍🏻
How to fix forearm splints I get from barbell curl? Ez bar doesn't help. I also don't have a weak forearms - I can deadlift 200kg pronated - no hookgrip
Two note: 1. Training the brachiales is really important so I think you should have hammer curls instead of spider curls or even hammer curls done in an incline like a spider curl would probably be better as a final exercise. 2. The triceps overhead extension with the dumbell aka the power bomb isn't a very good movement compared to other alternatives. For example katana extensions or just the same movement with a rope on a cable machine would be better cause of better alignment with the fibers. Still the rest is pure fax
Appreciate your videos! I have been out of training for 8 months due to injury, im starting my journey over from scratch and your content helps me alot to keep it simple but effective, thanks!
Hello, I respect your perspectives and have learned so much. I’m just curious as to why hammer type curls aren’t necessary to also tackle the biceps? Thank you in advance.
Hammer curls have a neutral grip which emphasizes brachialis rather than bicep. And no brachialis isn't a part of bicep, it's a desperate muscle in the upper arm, however don't skip hammer curls, cuz they target brachialis and it helps to give thickness and peak to bicep. U can try this yourself take your hand and flex bicep with elbow at 90 degrees twisting pinky In Direction of thumb, then turn your wrist opposite to the direction u did ewrlier, while doijg this look at ur bicep muscke u would see it angaged max when hand is fully supinated meaning palms towards sjy
Depends on genetics. Some dudes have big bulbous veiny arms from doing construction work or farming, without doing a single curl or extension in their lives.
Respected Sir , i would really appreciate , could you please make videos like this for other body parts as well. this is so amazing , no nonsen*e workout. No confusions.
I'm surprised that bilateral cable crusifix curls wasn't on the list. Full stretch and contraction, and decent final halfrep. Only strict curls possible. My favourite.
Just watched Ryan humiston's video on the incline curls where he used an EMG device to measure muscle activation and he found out that incline curls are the worst when it comes to hitting the long head of the biceps
I can see that. Whenever I do incline curls I never get the best pump, but I do get the best stretch for the longhead biceps. I think it's one of the best exercises for the stretch of the biceps, not the contraction/peak.
Ryan is like the king of bullshit on yt so Id take anything he says with a grain of salt. I use heavy spider curls and incline db curls and my biceps are one of my strongest and biggest muscles, I do a lot of pulling too though, weighted pull ups and heavy supinated rows, so theres that too. Try it, see if it works for you, if you feel the muscle contracting. If it does, do it. Thats the only way youll know.
Hey man, im new to the channel but i always and only follow old school bodybuiling. Really good job from you. Is there any poor guy from that era i can follow. Im from a poor place and when i get money i always buy protein powder and tuna.
In another video Peter said that he would first do a Peak Contraction exercise to direct bloodflow to the arms, warm up the joints etc. and THEN move on to a heavy load exercise which made a lot of sense to me. Now he says to Heavy Load first and then Peak Contraction LAST? Somewhat confused but I believe peak contraction first and then heavy load is still better
What do you think of doing triceps first before biceps? In my experience if I work biceps first, they get so pumped that they sometimes interfere with the full stretch of working triceps.
Hi Pete , what’s your view on the skullcrusher dropping behind head to give better stretch and possibly more weight? I’m sure a lot will be momentum and some lat involvement. Or you think the traditional is superior? Thanks great info as always

What are your opinion about dips and close grip chins for arms? Seems like people I know that do both regularly have well developed arms.
I personally prefer chin ups to barbell curls because barbell curls incorporate unnecessary front delt stress when I do them.
