@@glennwatson3313 you are correct! Exactly what I was thinking. They should have refused to take ownership as well as noting the VIN , insisted the dealer order a new unit. If dealer refused , demand the deposit back and go elsewhere. And no it’s not hindsight. Living to middle age a certain amount of knowledge should be acquired along the way to know better to sign on the dotted line for a defective vehicle, refrigerator, television, etc.
This channel changed my plans for an RV ended up buying a school bus and in process of converting it. My budget is half what it would cost for a new RV and I'm having it converted by a custom fab shop that builds custom trailers. The owner was a retired general contractor who built custom homes so he has lot of experience with home building.
I’m sure it will be much more reliable when you are finished! Many if not most fancy RV resorts probably won’t let you in ! I don’t go to any of those anyway! Just saying.😁🇺🇸
No inspection and they signed the paperwork before the repairs were done. I feel bad but people need to really do their research and get inspections done before they sign any contracts.
Buy back for sure. Hard to believe that with as many trips back to the shop no one in management verified the repairs. Again the problem is top down. Your Incogni spot was hilarious.
Really good stuff Liz thanks for taking the time to inform the RV community, and potential new buyers as well who watch these videos! The RV industry is unlike any other quality is not assured quality is a luxury that many brands do not offer, but they’ll take your money in a heartbeat.
Maybe people just get caught up in the excitement of buying a RV ! No inspections , Don’t inspect themselves. And still take delivery! I guess it happens everywhere every day ! Thanks Liz for trying to help ! 👍😁
When the people originally from day, one went to pick the unit up, they should’ve turned around and said there’s no deal. We are not taking it. With all that damage there is no way I would’ve took it. There are plenty of fifth wheels on the market for sale.
It cracks me up that people think they can tow what is basically a small house on wheels and not expect them to gradually (or maybe not so gradually )self destruct. Last show I was at, I was appalled at the display models. They were falling apart just being on display, LOL. And the bigger they are the worse they are in general. If people can't inspect these things and see what they are buying, well then sorry about your luck. If they built these things to quality and to last many miles on the road you would need a semi truck just to haul it. Wake up people and use your heads.
I agree. People are basically hauling a garden shed down the highway. People want washers and dryers, fancy kitchen and all this technology, then act surprised when it’s falling apart. If you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on this and are surprised, then your not doing research. An idiot can go onto TH-cam and watch these videos, then see these things are a mess.
PLUS interest on the loan! If financed, it's probably 7 or 8% for 23 months of non usage on $142K is a lot of money! Can't say the exact amount without all of the numbers involved, but could be $12K-$15K in interest easily!
We had the exact situation happen to us with our Vilano. The Manufacturer (Vanleigh ) did everything right, it’s the dealer that is damaging things. Every time we picked it up there was new damage. The time in the shop and the frustration with the dealers work, we ended up just getting rid of it.
I am seeing a common pattern with many of these videos. The customer does the walk through, sees some problems, and signs the paperwork thinking the dealer will fix the problems. I have a rule that has served me well for decades. The first sign of a problem and I walk away. I make this very clear to the dealer before I show up.
As soon as I would hear about those issues from the beginning of the video I'd walk away because you can be guaranteed that attention or lack thereof, to detail will have permeated through the unit. Never sign anything when an RV has problems from the very get go. The fact the dealer calls you before checking it out first is another serious consideration.
I am entering the twilight of my working career. I have thought of buying an RV and traveling but I have seen so many bad experiences. Liz you are really an angel helping people get what they deserve out of their hard earned money. You are also cute as a button!
Liz, thank you for doing a great job as an RV buyer’s consumer advocate. This video just made me cancel proceeding with the purchase of a new Vanleigh RV. I was already aware of problems with Blue Compass and had previously chose to avoid giving them any business before seeing this video. I had been under the impression that Vanleigh was a top tier brand but I am now totally convinced that they are no longer top tier or even middle tier, especially since 2022. No one should ever have to contact executive management at any company or business before a defective product is repaired. Yes, a buy-back is in order along with financial compensation for the harm done to these innocent people. The RV industry is begging and shouting to now be placed under greater federal consumer protection rules and regulations and consumer friendly tort allowances without any arbitration requirements. I am very proud of you Liz. Keep up the noble fight! ❤
We purchased a new $170k diesel pusher years back. Took it back to the dealer twice for minor warranty repairs. I instantly realized that returning it for every tiny problem would be a time consuming, frustrating nightmare. During the remaining years of warranty I only returned it once, dealing with minor repairs myself.
This may get some negative comments, however can we stop building and purchasing RVs that are the size of a small house. These are RVs recreational vehicles. They're not meant or designed to be a luxury home. They depreciate like a rock and people keep purchasing these without third-party inspections. You signed the paperwork which was your biggest mistake.
My husband have a 2017 Tiffin Motorhome that we love and have decided to keep fixing up instead of getting a new RV. We thought about trading ours in but there seems to be a huge decline in quality in the RV industry since the pandemic.
We bought an old 1996 class c rv for $10,000that we enjoyed and lived ( spent $$$ fixing up but so worth it ) for almost 8 years. Finally it was beyond repair so we bought a brand new class C 24 Freedom elite by Thor and the sticker price was $116,000. The slide broke first trip. That thing ended up in the shop most of the time we owned it. Warranty means nothing if they keep it for months to get repairs approved and wait for parts. Horrible experience! I bought a used class b conversion which is so well built it takes my breath away. The build and the simplicity which almost guarantees less to go wrong. I will never buy a factory made rv again…. Big huge lesson learned. You can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on an RV which means nothing…. it can be pure junk. Get a custom build if you are going to do it.
Always always always get an outside inspection that is not affiliated with the dealership before you sign on the dotted line. If they’re going to do a walk-through with you, you have them put the slides in you put the slides out you check the hot water you check everything, even after your inspector check it but it all has to be done before you sign on the dotted line the minute you signed the problem is yours good luck
I find it astonishing what people want in an RV "camper". They want all and more conveniences than their home. The manufacturers have seized the day on the gullable consumer. There is NO WAY that a RV can be made, that will not fail with all the crap that these people want. It is hilarious and sad of what RVing has come to. If they want a home on wheels,by a true Mobil home,😂😂😂
IMO if you are going to tow it a lot of miles, smaller and simpler is better. Also, it helps to be handy and make small repairs yourself before it becomes a big one.
Sounds like Beacon is an anchor, good for you Liz for shining the light on them. The thing has been in shop for so long I would be embarrassed if I was part of this company. For the dealer not to have some kind of QA check list to confirm things are done is pitiful. If they are submitting warranty claims to the manufacturer that are false it cannot be a good thing.
I lived in an RV for about 5 years, and it was completely broken when I was done. I had it towed away for free for parts. I feel lucky to have that much time. I will never but another one. The price to quality, let alone the absolute miserable service, will keep me away until something drastic changes this horrible industry. It is like playing the casinos in Vegas to get a well-built RV anymore. My 2 cents.
You people were too excited to go camping. You should have said NO to EVERYTHING until it was all repaired or replaced properly. You took it out knowing it was damaged. Screws backing out don’t get better when they are moving down the road.
YES Buy it Back!!! However I don’t understand how they didn’t catch any of these before they took possession the very first day they should’ve never drove it off the lot with hand scratches on the refrigerator door and other issues plus I don’t know if they didn’t get a professional inspection but they definitely should have!
First problem was buying a post-covid Tiffin. Second was taking possession without passing inspection. Third was expecting ANY dealer to fix anything. Fourth was expecting Tiffin to do anything without contacting Bob. With that said, I think Blue Compass is just jerking you around. They just don't want to fix Tiffin's shoddy workmanship.
From what I'm hearing, Bob Tiffin no longer has the power to do anything. I know that Tiffin and Blue Compass are working together to try to make this right. Thanks for watching, Thomas, and stay tuned.
Bob is still responding to complaints as of yesterday. Best to send him a letter. Given that, I once asked him to help with a Cummins dealer who had my rig for 6 months. All i wanted was a corporate contact who might help and he told me it wasn't his problem.
Liz, why don’t ppl get an inspection? If you’re not getting an inspector, then walk through the unit and make sure the dealer hooks everything up and test it all. If there’s cosmetic issues, walk away! When we did our walk thru 5 years ago, the sound bar wasn’t hooked up right and the technician fixed it as we looked at everything else. We need to be inspectors, we’ve seen enough of them.
I just went to the Louisville, Ky RV show. I felt like these dealers and manufacturers were praying on the public. There are too many normies out there handing over their 401k's. I was in front of the Grand Design booth and felt that another disaster was about to happen in somebody's life.
I am shopping around for a 5th wheel right now. I certainly won't be looking at anything Tiffin. This story is beyond doing what is right. What a nightmare for these people.
Their biggest mistake was signing the paperwork. As well not securing a third party inspection. Seriously at some point with all of these videos on your channel the onus of responsibility must fall back onto the owner.
What an absolute DIASTER and DISGRACE of what was sold as a premium 5th wheel. I recall the brand being puffed up by youtubers, but if the brand actually stood up to their product it wouldnct have been delivered in that condition to start. Wow
The amount of reporting that says the RV industry has no control of quality control, and apparently no interest in getting a handle on it, means I would never own one, ever. It's a tsunami
I nearly purchased a Beacon. We had some financial things go sideways and had to put off the purchase for a year. A year later I got back in touch with our rv salesman. He said they were discounting the Beacon fifth wheel line because they had so many problems with them. He literally told us we dodged a massive bullet by waiting a year. It’s too bad because they are absolutely beautiful RV’s and come very well equipped, but they have had a ton of problems. I wouldn’t buy anything made by Tiffin. Since changing ownership years ago, they are terrible.
Obviously a buy back and some compensation for their troubles. You really have to thoroughly inspect nowadays before you even drive off with your camper. Its sad how bad the industry has become.
Yep. A thorough inspection would have helped. I know my videos are making a difference in amping up the pressure on the RV industry. Thanks for watching.
I don't get RV camping. I love back country tent camping. Pulling a fifth wheel from one concrete slab to another. I don't get it. Sounds incredibly boring, no experience with nature, no piece and quiet, no solitude, just an RV park full of loud obnoxious strangers, pulling around a $100,000 piece of junk....buy yourself a tent, a backpack and a good pair of hiking boots and head for mountains!
They should have got a ppi before planning trips and made sure all issues was resolved. Most that’s on this channel spent more time planning trips before they even laid eyes on on the campers than doing the proper steps of purchasing.
Wow! After hearing this story, RV employees are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to brains. People, stop buying them! The more of you that go on Liz Amazing to share your story the more you are beginning to look foolish. You saved my rear from buying one.
i think Tiffen should buy back the rv, give them every penny they paid and the dealer should compensate the buyer s cost in all the gas they had to spend going back and fourth to the dealer.... that would be the Ethical thing to do!!!
I wish I never bought my 5th wheel. I bought a keystone cougar in 2022 and I have been having nothing but issues with the auto leveling system, solar system, battery charging, the glass front of the microwave falling off, a bunch of screws everywhere and issues with one of the AC’s. Oh and I got it from camping world. It’s not the easiest process and dealers/manufacturers know this. I can’t wait to pay enough of it to get rid of it.
Buy back PLUS compensation for the frustration and costs involved! Hey RV Industry...a satisfied customer will tell someone they are happy if asked...an unsatisfied customer will tell EVERYONE they meet about the bad product and service!!!
I was told when looking for an RV, buy a used one from someone that bought it new and has repaired/replaced all the manufacturer problems and made it better than new. Especially if the seller is an old codger that takes care of his stuff! LOL
They should buy it back. Their whole situation is totally unacceptable. The dealer should not have accepted it with the damage it had when it arrived. A car dealer expects a new vehicle to arrive in sellable condition, and there is no way that trailer should have been sold to anyone in the condition it arrived in.
The more complex and expensive these vehicles are, the more there is to go wrong. So these companies and dealers need to invest in more quality control! The industry is getting a horrible reputation. Thank you for educating the consumers AND the corporations!

Tiffen owns Vanleigh motor homes, and Tiffen is owned by Thor.
Correct. I hope to have an update soon; I know talks are in progress. Thanks for being here, David!
Lesson to be learned: DO NOT buy anything by Thor, or it's associated companies!
Tiffen QC left Red Bay the day Thor came to town.
@ Hard to do considering just how many brands they own.
Yep Thor is a cost cutting specialist. They turn everything into dodo.
I wouldn't have signed any paperwork in the first place with there being damage from things not being bolted down from the factory.
Most important RV station on YT
100%
Always always always get an outside inspection that is not affiliated with the dealership before you sign on the dotted line. If they’re going to do a walk-through with you, you have them put the slides in you put the slides out you check the hot water you check everything, even after your inspector check it but it all has to be done before you sign on the dotted line the minute you signed the problem is yours good luck
A buy back yes but before you take it off the lott inspection like your life depends on it
Liz is the best!
Luxury Items come with Luxury Expenses (Including Attorney Fees for when you're forced to Sue)
I always think while watching these, "Those RV owners are a lot more patient than I, and I think I'm a pretty patient person."
My 2 cents.
Wow, you just insulted shady Mafia owned casinos!
@@Timbrock1000lol😂
You people were too excited to go camping. You should have said NO to EVERYTHING until it was all repaired or replaced properly. You took it out knowing it was damaged. Screws backing out don’t get better when they are moving down the road.
I am at a loss to understand how there are no Regulations or Governing Bodies concerning RV manufacturers in the US?

I agree! They sign when they should walk away!
Liz maybe you should partner with blue ox inspection...if they will have you 😂
YES Buy it Back!!! However I don’t understand how they didn’t catch any of these before they took possession the very first day they should’ve never drove it off the lot with hand scratches on the refrigerator door and other issues plus I don’t know if they didn’t get a professional inspection but they definitely should have!
Things are getting much better when you are getting involved.
Dang! If the dealer gave the RV to them they'd still have negative equity in the thing! 😮
Why would anyone take delivery before everything was fixed?
Because the issues were cosmetic and they wanted to continue with their camping plans.
Sounds like you got yourself a lemon
Liz, why don’t ppl get an inspection? If you’re not getting an inspector, then walk through the unit and make sure the dealer hooks everything up and test it all. If there’s cosmetic issues, walk away! When we did our walk thru 5 years ago, the sound bar wasn’t hooked up right and the technician fixed it as we looked at everything else. We need to be inspectors, we’ve seen enough of them.
Evidently, the word isn’t out yet about needing to get an inspection on new. Please help by sharing this video. Thanks for watching!
Needs to be a full buy back !
Liz, your work is really important. Thank you for everything you do.
Thank you so much for your support, I know these videos are making a difference!
Save your money. Stay at a Hilton.
It's not just Tiffin. You're buying something that moves down rough roads, expect things to vibrate.
Expect issues if you buy ! They still are having frame issues! 😬
Tiffin stopped making 5th wheels.
Their biggest mistake was signing the paperwork. As well not securing a third party inspection. Seriously at some point with all of these videos on your channel the onus of responsibility must fall back onto the owner.
They are due a buyback!
Thank you, Jeffrey! Have a great weekend and stay tuned.
Buyback and Expenses!!!
Take the buy back and find a different camper / trailer / rv to purchase.
What an absolute DIASTER and DISGRACE of what was sold as a premium 5th wheel.
I recall the brand being puffed up by youtubers, but if the brand actually stood up to their product it wouldnct have been delivered in that condition to start.
Wow
I sure hope Tiffin and/or Blue Compass steps up to make things right. I know talks are in progress so stay tuned. And thanks for watching.
I'll never buy a traditional RV - I'd rather get something from Oliver or similar.
Yep, a small independent RV maker is the way to go. Always do a lot of research AND get an inspection. Thanks for watching!
The amount of reporting that says the RV industry has no control of quality control, and apparently no interest in getting a handle on it, means I would never own one, ever. It's a tsunami
The RV business is not the only one haveing these CS and QC issues. Just look at Boeing.
I have always interested in a RV, but the horror stories are crazy.
Buy back without a doubt it's a lemon 🍋 what a frustrating experience
Buyback and compensation on top of that
I nearly purchased a Beacon.
Wow. Thank you for sharing this, and for watching.
Obviously the dealer didn’t do a PDI before the customers were told to come get it.
@ I think they are 🩷💫
I don't get RV camping.
I always camp out at a Hilton Hotel! Great camping there!
Do the buy back
They should have got a ppi before planning trips and made sure all issues was resolved.
Every state needs to crack down on this BS. It needs to be regulated the same as the auto industry.
Yep. The RV industry is like the wild west, they can do what they want. Thanks for watching.
They should get the buyback!
Just don't lie to the next person you sell it to just to get rid of it. It's not fair to anyone to have to deal with all that.
The entire executive team should be forced to live in that hunk of junk for a month.
That's a great idea! Thanks for your comment!
One last comment. Can you please stop saying you're going camping. You're towing a tenement on wheels that's not camping
Yeah !! Thank you! You’re exactly correct! Glamping is probably a better word. 😁🇺🇸👍
Total buy back and the dealer should compensate them for all expenses...
Definitely a buyback unless they're willing extend their warranty for another year to cover everything that would be a great customer service for them
I guess the rule is never buy a new one. When buying an old one higher two different inspectors to make sure.
Buy back PLUS compensation for the frustration and costs involved!
Hey RV Industry...a satisfied customer will tell someone they are happy if asked...an unsatisfied customer will tell EVERYONE they meet about the bad product and service!!!
I hope they get a buyback, but I also hope that a national lemon law is begun.
I'm so sorry to see a number of excellent channels like yours having to take money from scam companies like VPN and other services.
Incogni is not VPN. They are a personal data removal service. I'm very happy with them. Check them out!
simple buy back, and on the double
I was told when looking for an RV, buy a used one from someone that bought it new and has repaired/replaced all the manufacturer problems and made it better than new. Especially if the seller is an old codger that takes care of his stuff! LOL
They should buy it back. Their whole situation is totally unacceptable. The dealer should not have accepted it with the damage it had when it arrived. A car dealer expects a new vehicle to arrive in sellable condition, and there is no way that trailer should have been sold to anyone in the condition it arrived in.
Liz - This is NOT a disguised negative comment directed at you, I'm just honestly curious if anyone ever gets a good and trouble-free RV anymore?
Yes, a buy back is reasonable and prudent for both the dealer and manufacturer.😮
Thank you for this, Stuart! Please share this video to help get the word out.
15 months😢, how is that possible.
The more complex and expensive these vehicles are, the more there is to go wrong. So these companies and dealers need to invest in more quality control! The industry is getting a horrible reputation. Thank you for educating the consumers AND the corporations!
Thor is responsible for the buy back ASAP
I hope to have an update soon. Thanks for watching and stay tuned.
Liz you are wonderful.
Aww, thanks so much. I'm glad you're here!
