Thank you so much for posting this! I heard Caroline Lavelle sing this in the San Francisco concert tour of Loreena's. It was such a treat to hear her sing!
You can also here this traditional song sung by Julie Christie in the film, Far From The Madding Crowd which can be found here on TH-cam. Its well worth watching and listening to.
Through bushes and through briars I lately took my way Oh, far to hear the small birds sing And lambs to skip and play Oh, far to hear the small birds sing And lambs to skip and play I overheard my own true love His voice did sound so clear Long time I have been waiting for The coming of my dear Long time I have been waiting for The coming of my dear Sometimes I am uneasy And troubled in my mind Sometime I think I'll go to my love And tell to him my mind Sometime I think I'll go to my love And tell to him my mind But if I should go to love My love he will say, "Nay." If I show to him my morning He'll never have me again If I show to him my morning He'll never have me again
@meandmymandola Yes, I realize that. I was merely pointing out that this version of the song is arranged and performed by Caroline Lavelle, not by Loreena McKennitt.
wasn't really a rave version, it just had a sample in it with some of the lyrics. The track was called "Young Birds" and is still one of my favorite hardcore tracks ever :)
Yes, this song it's from Caroline Lavelle. She plays the cello and he accompanies Loreena during her tours. This live version of this song it's from the concert of Los Angeles at 05/13/1998 (i'm a collecor of Loreena's concerts). The original song it's a demo and she also has sung during the Loreena McKennitt tour of 1998. P.S. : sorry for my bad english.
0TedMaul0 you're wrong I knew that song cause my gran Ma sung that song when I was little kid and cause i heard from Loreena McKennitt live in L.A in 1998.
In this area (Toronto) ravers did not tend to know a lot about English folk music. For Sub Dub, no one knew what the song was or what the lyrics were. It fell to me to figure out that Seduction's Sub Dub sampled "Bushes and Briars." Reaction to this was almost universally negative -- I guess it wasn't edgy enough. At least one DJ said he would never play it again. FWIW I never have found the actual version sampled, which has slight differences ('sport and play' not 'skip and play').
Djcondra- There is none. Enjoy the serenity of simple instruments. Electronics will only ruin such work. I appreciate rave mixes and such personally as well. But songs like this....Aren't meant for raves.
This song comes from live Rainy Night in L.A 1998. Caroline Lavelle, her cellist sing the song. this is devided into 2 part this is the first and in the second Loreena sing As I roved out one may morning.
This is an old folk song from at least as far back as 1903. It was recreated in the 1973 film Far From The Madding Crowd. All this predates the comments below.
This kind of music does it for me. I love it.
I've never heard this version. It's beautiful. She is amazing and more.

Thank you, i'm so happy , it's a song i've never heard: it's wonderful! thank you again!
This is arguably one of the best versions of Bushes and Briars. It’s just such a pity that this particular recording is so poor.
Her voice is so beautiful...would love to see her live.
This isn't by Loreena McKennitt. This is done by her cellist, Caroline Lavelle, who is also a singer and composer.
Love this version though.
I have to say I like "Bushes and Briars," though. In the original and in Seduction - Sub Dub.
So many CD covers...that I've never seen... *headdesks* And so many of them are so PRETTY!
And the song...it's amazing. Why did she never record it?

Caroline Lavelle is singing, not Loreena, but wonderful.
This is Caroline Lavelle singing, not Loreena. Beautiful, though.
That is actually Caroline Lavelle singing "Bushes And Briars". Loreena joins in with "Searching for Lambs"

I came here after 1 of episode of Victoria Tv series
Very mesmerizing song

Hi, do you know by chance if them have a cd of this songs?
0TedMaul0 you're wrong I knew that song cause my gran Ma sung that song when I was little kid and cause i heard from Loreena McKennitt live in L.A in 1998.
la que canta no es Loreena, es Caroline Lavelle, su cellista.
Nonetheless, it is quite enchanting to listen to. I like it
Agreed.

her voice is so amazing
