After watching the entire film, while flipping through the comments I realised that this short film was made 11 years ago. Here I am in 2022, thinking for the entire time that those people were terrified of the coronavirus. That moment of realisation just baffled me. I am just thinking if some similar kinda outbreak happened 11 years ago or the writer just happened to stumble upon the idea. Whatever the case, hands down one of the greatest short film I have ever watched . Felt so relatable after being amidst such a similar situation.
If your counting back from 2022,Well I was counting back from 2022 when you saw this movie,in 2011 didn't the housing market crash, People could not pay their mortgage, and many houses forclosed.
This movie was so touching. The viewer can actually feel David's agony over being alone. Next, we can feel his overwhelming joy at having human contact. Finally, we can feel the despair he felt at the thought of losing Claire. The best scene to me is the one in which Claire is flipping through the pages of his journal. The writing started out lucid, and then it eventually turned into him keeping count of the days. That scene hurt my heart. Great job!
I'm right here with you. This is more of an abstract portrayal of someone who's dealing with a lot inside. I hope you're not dealing with this kind of struggle, if you are I wish you the very best.

I happened to live in hard area for a month my husband was army officer.... The seclusion I experienced was heart wrenching... ..the moment the boy saw intruder he said don't go.. ...nobody could live lonely for three years.. ..
The girl ruined it all. Even if he didn't share the food in the first instance he would have shared it later because he seemed to be a nice person. Together they could have gathered food and all kinds of resources, have children and lived a happy isolated life.
Dang. If the girl trusted him she could've got food, but this guy who's been alone and isolated for four years couldn't properly communicate and due to that she didn't trust him. She thought he would lock her in that basement and prevent her from her goal.

I've just recently started browsing around these short films. This was by far the best I've seen. For a 2 person cast you were able to create such a story and i was hooked from start to finish! This made me feel sympathy, hope, fear, and sadness all within 30 minutes. Dude I am at a loss for words, this really did take my breath away, looking forward to see some more of your work!
I would like to see more of this work as well, but I am not allowed to subscribe because I don't have that many subscribers compared to subscriptions. Alex, My compliments regarding your short story film Day 1000. I accidently came across the film on You tube. Wow Excellent short story ! I believe regardless of your future films this will be one of your masterpieces. The actors David Beckner & Adele Watkin did a excellent job. They portrayed the psychodynamics of the characters well. I was impressed as to how you kept the film in one location. It was powerful how you captured the deep loneliness of David. His isolation brought tears to my eyes. He displayed how loneliness can be like a cutting void. In addition the movie score was good. Thank you for a great movie !
I have to admit that this short film was really food, and captured the meaning behind being alone. it's a every well known fact that we as the human species crave the feeling of being around fellow humans, and that is because we are social creature, but when we face having to be alone we can't retain our basic human nature of being social, and there for act in ways that we normally wouldn't act. I think that you capture that perfectly in your film, and I hope that you make many more showing other emotions like lost love, falling in love, having kids etc...
The reason why the plot of this film is so appealing is that it walks the very narrow borderland that includes what is both surprising and believable. It is sad but true that we could imagine characters behaving that way in a real apocalyptic situation.
Hmmm... bit unrealistic..... why would she want to go anywhere else. There is no one left alive, ,no obvious transportation, the guy claims he has survived for four years (actually less than 3 yrs) which implies he has a good source of food and he is young, the house is nice and clean and there is water and showering facilities. Who would want to abandon all that for a miserable existence in the woods.....
She was looking for her sister, if you paid attention. She just wanted to steal some food, but she came on the day he was suppose to refill his cupboards so she was pissed and she left to find her sister.
DBZHGWgamer If you paid attention, you will realise she is actually looking for her brother and it is unlikely she would want to leave the comforts of a good home for a while because she has been living rough. So, leaving the next day is highly unlikely especially as she has been watching the guy for apparently some days in order to assess how much food he has. Logically, if she is interested in a food cache which she suspects the guy has, she would at least stick around until a full analysis is completed to ascertain what the cache consists of. Use your brains.

Are you telling me that if your little brother could be trapped at home and you have no idea wether he is dead or alive, you would stay in some random guys house just for comfort? Every day you waist could be the one day too late to save your brother.

So, she could spare the time to make her observation for a number of days even though her "little brother could be trapped at home", but was too impatient to fully analyse the situation once contact had been made? Illogical. The cupboards being empty cannot mean no food until the question has been asked "do you have any more food?" This question was never asked. Bearing in mind, the guy has survived alone with no obvious outside resupplies, this implies he has food stores. Also, he mentions that he has survived alone for about 4yrs. Do you think you could fit 4 yrs of food supplies into those cupboards? The implication here is that the food store is elsewhere (under the house). Again, "use your brain."
***** He could have stored some food in the rooms. She doesn't know. She was in a dire situation, do you think she took the time to think things out? She made assumptions. They may have been incorrect assumptions, but she still made them. You find it easy to think through, sitting comftrbley in a chair typing this out, your not in her situation.

yes. she said he had been taking food from the cabinets every day for a week. She had only been watching him for a week. She took the first opportunity of him leaving the house to rob him. That happened to be the first time he left the house, to go to the stash all week
The sad part I find in this movie is because of covid we all can now imagine a world like the one in this movie. A world where one person is so happy to see another person they have a reason to see tomorrow. A person that is trying to find their family having to shot another person because they think their life is in danger. This movie did in 30 min what a lot of Hollywood movies fail to do in two hours. The moral of the story is, even when we live in despair and in need of others, we still put our selfish agendas first instead of working together toward our survival. This is a true of human relationship with Mother Earth.
Well, perhaps after years and several miles away there might be others? And incest wasn't that unusual in previous millennia (most kings and queens for instance were siblings = Cleopatra and her husband before Cesar). Also there would be other combination like niece with uncle, or 3nd degree cousins, which is also even today usual in many cultures. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting human population growth in any means, but why kill each other than you can create a new (better?) beginning?

I was watching an interview for Surviver and they were talking about how they stop being from having sex with each other while on the show and they said that when they don't have enough food, their sex drive just shuts down because it would waste energy and consume more food which they have limited of, maybe that's what happened
You could foreshadow what was going to happen but it was so good!! The portrait of loneliness and PTSD from abandonment (in a way) HAD ME BALLING in the beginning
Clear case of "Shoot first and ask questions later" and it turned out just as bad. Awesome short story, and I like that it depicts the truth of what it would be like if humanity ever got to this point. Well done, thanks it was a pleasure to watch!

This truly shows the tragic vulnerabilities we all have, how untrustworthy we are & how sadly this disgusting world plays out daily for people. Great job with the loneliness, I felt that once in prison… just any contact was a true ache in my soul.

This really shows how important it is for us to have contact with others; living alone goes against human nature. And of course he was an emotional wreck. She has hope--her brother. I've seen this, my brother isolated himself in a small caravan with no electric in Austin, Texas. My parents finally went and found him, brought him home. He didn't talk much. Slowly he got back to being "a person". He turned out fine, started a recycling setup, applied for his V.A. pension and we got him back. Can't say that for everyone. Some people go past the point and never come back in their head. 😢
Dan Beckner did an exceptional job portraying a man who has been driven mad by grief and loneliness. It was only after the movie was over that I remembered he's acting - that's how fitting all of his decisions were. At the end, when Claire slams the door, Dan's reaction showed perfectly how unhinged David has become. Everything after that was unnecessary, in my opinion; the full tragedy of David's situation was evident on Dan's face.
This was so sad but at the same time you can’t expect someone to hear you out after you knock them over the head with a shovel then carry them to a locked door under your house.
I mean he did tell her that he still had food, she never saw him go into his secret stash? He was there when she was approaching his house. She never wondered what he was doing under his house? Did she really think he could fit 4 years worth of food in a cupboard?
I loved that movie! I loved the comments! So colorful! From the movie, I would add that we have plenty of what we need, food, water, shelter. We still need to learn to communicate between us, trust each other, share our resources from the start, and then we will thrive!
Movie tier level acting and cinematography. The fact that the story was able to add so many possible scenarios right up to the point where Claire discovers the journal it could've gone plenty of different ways. But the suspense after she finds the journal overpowers every other emotions other than a sense of despair when he's outside for the first time with no mask. Now that's some serious tension and release.
I didnt know that this is an old film, well that makes me depressed. I can't imagine the pain that the guy was going through, and seeing his reaction outside his house and just getting killed because of a woman. I loved the film, not going to forget about it.
Excellent film, good acting and camerawork. I did not care for her character at all, though. She lied and spied on him, just wanting to rob him and then ended up killing him. Very enraging to see such a bad person get away with all these things - but such is life.
We never would have trusted her never. 1000 days and those who are left are so desperate. Being alone is something you just get have to used to. He was desperate for company lurking at her bedroom door like a perv. He was weak & selfish eating her food when he had a ton of his own locked up.
Look at this lesson in the unfairness of life and magnify it ten million times and you have trump and his imbecility apparently untouchable by justice or morality.

Wow..this film is an psychological roller coaster! It took me on an ever-changing emotional thrill ride. Two individuals, each with very different needs, reacting to a crisis in completely different ways. I’d say I would love to see it play out a little further, but it’s totally complete- nothing more could be added. I was really drawn into this story. A tragic misunderstanding.

She figured out , when she read the journal , this guys' mind was fried . She didn't want to be controlled by a nut case that would "never let her go". Everyone always gets hung up on the weaponry used as props in these short films... which are almost always made on extremely low budgets, sometimes by school kids who are merely trying to learn about the filmmaking process. Get over it... they are just props.

After watching many dozens of post apocolyptic movies it would seem the most consistent things with the stories are the sheer stupidity of people and lack of trust people have in other humans! It makes the possibility of people surviving any catastrophy seemingly impossible. Good movie though very well made and acted!
That was great. There were a few technical issues, as mentioned already, but beyond that, this was an excellent work. The acting was superb; the music, fitting; the story, compelling; the cinematography, nearly professional; and above all, their humanity was captured brilliantly. It's sad, but the ending isn't anything we can't imagine happening. But it is the artist's job to portray it nonetheless, and this you did well.
It would still be better to keep it all down in the basement and just keep bringing some up every week or so like he was doing. The reason being you never know when random people are going to roll up on you and try to rob you for what you've got.
DJ, good point! Counter point, that lock wouldn't be hard to pick or break. Someone watching from the woods would be likely to pick it at night and make off with his whole stash, too.

So, she could spare the time to make her observation for a number of days even though her "little brother could be trapped at home", but was too impatient to fully analyse the situation once contact had been made? Illogical. The cupboards being empty cannot mean no food until the question has been asked "do you have any more food?" This question was never asked. Bearing in mind, the guy has survived alone with no obvious outside resupplies, this implies he has food stores. Also, he mentions that he has survived alone for about 4yrs. Do you think you could fit 4 yrs of food supplies into those cupboards? The implication here is that the food store is elsewhere (under the house). Again, "use your brain."
***** He could have stored some food in the rooms. She doesn't know. She was in a dire situation, do you think she took the time to think things out? She made assumptions. They may have been incorrect assumptions, but she still made them. You find it easy to think through, sitting comftrbley in a chair typing this out, your not in her situation.
Why does this not have more attention? Amazing film, thought provoking and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If only she'd have let him open the cellar.

yes. she said he had been taking food from the cabinets every day for a week. She had only been watching him for a week. She took the first opportunity of him leaving the house to rob him. That happened to be the first time he left the house, to go to the stash all week
The sad part I find in this movie is because of covid we all can now imagine a world like the one in this movie. A world where one person is so happy to see another person they have a reason to see tomorrow. A person that is trying to find their family having to shot another person because they think their life is in danger. This movie did in 30 min what a lot of Hollywood movies fail to do in two hours. Congratulations on a good movie

The moral of the story is, even when we live in despair and in need of others, we still put our selfish agendas first instead of working together toward our survival. This is a true of human relationship with Mother Earth.

Well, perhaps after years and several miles away there might be others? And incest wasn't that unusual in previous millennia (most kings and queens for instance were siblings = Cleopatra and her husband before Cesar). Also there would be other combination like niece with uncle, or 3nd degree cousins, which is also even today usual in many cultures. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting human population growth in any means, but why kill each other than you can create a new (better?) beginning?

I dont know man mayby they didn't want to burden of a new born. Surviving in that world already seemed difficult enough without having to carry a baby around. Claire was already worried about food, if she had a baby she'd be feeding two which could possibly kill her

I was watching an interview for Surviver and they were talking about how they stop being from having sex with each other while on the show and they said that when they don't have enough food, their sex drive just shuts down because it would waste energy and consume more food which they have limited of, maybe that's what happened

This really shows how important it is for us to have contact with others; living alone goes against human nature. And of course he was an emotional wreck. She has hope--her brother. I've seen this, my brother isolated himself in a small caravan with no electric in Austin, Texas. My parents finally went and found him, brought him home. He didn't talk much. Slowly he got back to being "a person". He turned out fine, started a recycling setup, applied for his V.A. pension and we got him back. Can't say that for everyone. Some people go past the point and never come back in their head. 😢

Dan Beckner did an exceptional job portraying a man who has been driven mad by grief and loneliness. It was only after the movie was over that I remembered he's acting - that's how fitting all of his decisions were. At the end, when Claire slams the door, Dan's reaction showed perfectly how unhinged David has become. Everything after that was unnecessary, in my opinion; the full tragedy of David's situation was evident on Dan's face.
This was so sad but at the same time you can’t expect someone to hear you out after you knock them over the head with a shovel then carry them to a locked door under your house.

Movie tier level acting and cinematography. The fact that the story was able to add so many possible scenarios right up to the point where Claire discovers the journal it could've gone plenty of different ways. But the suspense after she finds the journal overpowers every other emotions other than a sense of despair when he's outside for the first time with no mask. Now that's some serious tension and release.
I didnt know that this is an old film, well that makes me depressed. I can't imagine the pain that the guy was going through, and seeing his reaction outside his house and just getting killed because of a woman. I loved the film, not going to forget about it.
Excellent film, good acting and camerawork. I did not care for her character at all, though. She lied and spied on him, just wanting to rob him and then ended up killing him. Very enraging to see such a bad person get away with all these things - but such is life.
We never would have trusted her never. 1000 days and those who are left are so desperate. Being alone is something you just get have to used to. He was desperate for company lurking at her bedroom door like a perv.

Wow..this film is an psychological roller coaster! It took me on an ever-changing emotional thrill ride. Two individuals, each with very different needs, reacting to a crisis in completely different ways. I’d say I would love to see it play out a little further, but it’s totally complete- nothing more could be added. I was really drawn into this story. A tragic misunderstanding.

She figured out , when she read the journal , this guys' mind was fried . She didn't want to be controlled by a nut case that would "never let her go". To say he came on a little too strong is a massive understatement. The shovel incident was just an appetizer for what was to come . CooCoo Cocoa puffs! Good instincts Claire ! Good film!

Everyone always gets hung up on the weaponry used as props in these short films... which are almost always made on extremely low budgets, sometimes by school kids who are merely trying to learn about the filmmaking process.
Get over it... they are just props.

After watching many dozens of post apocolyptic movies it would seem the most consistent things with the stories are the sheer stupidity of people and lack of trust people have in other humans! It makes the possibility of people surviving any catastrophy seemingly impossible. Good movie though very well made and acted!
For the majority of people... surviving a true catastrophe actually WOULD be impossible.
That was great. There were a few technical issues, as mentioned already, but beyond that, this was an excellent work. The acting was superb; the music, fitting; the story, compelling; the cinematography, nearly professional; and above all, their humanity was captured brilliantly. It's sad, but the ending isn't anything we can't imagine happening. But it is the artist's job to portray it nonetheless, and this you did well.

It would still be better to keep it all down in the basement and just keep bringing some up every week or so like he was doing. The reason being you never know when random people are going to roll up on you and try to rob you for what you've got.

Good one, tho sad. In her shoes, I would've stayed, especially since he seemed nice and there was comfort. If he had no food, asked what his plans were. Find together. Eventually, see if he would help her find her brother or sister. But then it would not have had the ending intended,
