The Thai's simply throw the whole dam thing away and build a new ecu to do exactly what they want it to do. We need to be doing more of that here. Thanks for the great vids btw.

Just an observation. I was walking home one day from Aldies. Just before i went for a run. Away in the distance i heard the burble of a serious bike comming my way i was in a street with old 1930.s houses red sandstone you know what i mean. This blade came down the street burbling and as it was a windless sunney day in spring. I was stunned when it passed it had filled the hole street with that stale pepery foul exzaust smell. It was the first time in years iv got a little reminder just how our bikes used to be. I rember my mother in the 80.s railing at me as i left the front door open with my bmw R100.s warming up on the path. My mother said it stank the house out from the exzaust getting blown in the open door. Just an observation Stuart..

Your content was 100% the reason.
That’s very interesting. Last week europe called for the right to repair so people will be able to maintain there stuff for at least 10 years. That contradicts possible anti tamper software. Lets see how this plays out

India has implemented Bharat Stage 6, similar to Euro 6. Royal Enfield knows that, most of their customers are going to modify the bike once they purchase. RE is selling accessories and you can also buy aftermarket accessories of other manufacturers. Now in India, Honda has lauch two models to compete RE and other models are under development. But Indian customers are already complaining that Honda bikes are not easy to customize. Most of the time, you end up buying accessories from Honda Dealers. There is a limited scope of modifications in Honda
BS6 is EURO 6. Not similar they are the SAME and to let everyone know BS6 came into affect a whole year earlier than the EURO 6. We're the first in this race
@@garyt123 that was done as a political move. Yes me missed the deadline but what's also true is the fact that India is now the most polluted country in the world and as per people's request for a change, the government made a whole statement by "skipping" and now has one of the most stringent regulations. It's an illusion. As for the race it was meant to be a pun.
Totally agree with you re the environmental costs of electrification which are not being discussed. Personally, as many others have said, I think my old bikes 38yrs & 31yrs old) and older diesel car are far more environmentally friendly as they can be maintained and kept running. Modern vehicles with their EU restrictions will always have a limited lifespan because their electronics become uneconomical to repair when the engine and running gear has many more years of life. So we are stuck in this crazy world where perfectly good vehicles are scrapped and have to be replaced with all the environmental costs of that go with that. Old Land Rovers are the perfect example of something that the environmentalists think are awful and yet the overall environmental impact of them is minimal because of their ability to be kept working for decades 🤨
Interesting video We're lucky here in the UK regarding bikes and emissions. Vehicles with fewer than four wheels are exempt. People who like to customise their motorcycles will just fit an aftermarket programmable unit. Don't let the keyboard warriors get you down. One thing the pandemic has brought to light is that common sense isn't very common and if idiots could fly the sky would be permanently blacked out. Keep up the good work. Stay safe Stuart
There is too many things I want to mention but lets start something interesting! The world don't put any regulation on big container ships or cruise ships that means once they are on international waters they can burn pacura which is the lowest grade of any mineral oil! Literally liquid cancer it is! One container ship makes more pollution than the whole EU combined! We cut back the motor vehicles emission level with 95%plus since Euro 1 standard has been introduced in the 90's. Literally impossible to do more improvement without investing billions in combustion engines and even so the improvement will be 0.1to1%. How interesting ocean ships NEVER had any revision in regards of their pollution... they should start with that segment now. Another very interesting thing is the EU introduced a co2 quotation a good 20 years ago to believe this will encourage companies to chip in or switch to greener technologies... literally the whole European steel industry migrated to China where they welcomed them with open arms. The just had to reassemble their steel forgeries and show went on however there was a significant big increasement in terms of CO2 production. That happened form see shipment, because the steel had to be shipped back to Europe!!!! Literally multipled the amount of co2 production the EU forcing the steel industry out of Europe... The list is endless of stupid decisions but I wanted to highlight these two!
Keep doing it your way Stu. That’s the only way that matters at the end of the day. Keep up the great work . It’s a pleasure to view your videos no matter what the subject matter.

I own 6 bikes, and they are all carbureted. I bought a 2013 RE Bullet B5 with EFI, and within a month had it converted to an Amal carburetor using a kit from Hitchcocks. I also replaced the catalytic converter exhaust with a normal (and much lighter, smaller, and better looking) aftermarket exhaust. I am 62, and will not likely ever need to buy another bike, but if I do, it will be carbureted.
Life is all about choices and consequences. You choose a format for your videos and people can choose to watch them or not! Critical comments not required - easy! Thanks for the heads up on Euro 5. I think I'll be keeping my 2012 T100 and 2017 CB1100!!
It's two years on Stuart and you were spot on, I hope its OK refering anyone who has a bike effected by these euro 5 rules onto another Utuber called VFRMitch who posted a video concerning the way around the problem.(if you think it inappropriate I will delete) Mitch installs a rather complicated piece of kit called "Fuel X Lite"from TECBike Parts which has to be incorperated into the original wiring harness under the tank (without any cutting of wires). I have been relatively lucky as my bike is euro 4 but hope this might be of help to any poor buggers with newer euro 5 bikes. 👍
Interesting: my 2015 Vespa GTS300 Super (here in the States) is EURO 3, which appears to be one of the last years where performance didn't appear to take much of a hit. I always intended to hang onto this bike for a fairly long time; after listening to your discussion here, I realize I made the right move. Regarding your presentation style: I've always liked it. Absolutely no need to change it up.
Another informative video Stuart. Got my notification ok at 6am this morning. Watched a tv show this morning called Vintage Voltage, where they converted a Classic 500 from petrol to electric. Take care of yourself and stay safe.
WHOOOOPS ! I bought a Euro 5 , 2022 Triumph T-100 , But I love Triumphs, we’ll see how much pain I endure for that. Already just 500 miles in the fuel injector assembly has a constant squelch, or sucking noise ? With key on, before starting. Dealer says its normal. Myst be a new normal , never heard anything like it in my 56 years ! But it runs smooth, I love the Bonneville frame, etc
Absolutely love your videos and style of presentation of content. Something I notice when zero emissions standards are discussed, most of us assume the goal is to get us all on or in electric personal vehicles. That is a defected assumption for the goal is to take away the ability of the majority of us to even own personal vehicles except bicycles. Most vehicles when that is achieved will be used for mass transportation of goods and/ or people. You are absolutely right time to buy is today, if not sooner.
I'm considering creating a collection of preEuro5 motorcycles for personal enjoyment and posterity purposes. I love a good preamble too, provides context.
I suppose the thing that bothers me about excessive (note I write 'excessive') emissions control is that we seem to continue to expect 'Joe Average' to bear most of the cost for reducing global emissions; empirical studies have shown most on-and-near-road pollution is caused by industrial traffic (i.e. large vehicles transporting goods), and that most sulphurous gas emissions in the world are caused by container ships, lugging goods around the world. Now, obviously, we can't do away with either of those things - but why aren't we regulating them more? Going after motorcycles or cars more than we already have seems to be beating a dead horse; I won't claim cars or motorcycles are good for the environment (they aren't), but they don't pollute anywhere nearly as badly as they once did, and certainly not as much as some think they do. There are other ways to reduce our individual pollution footprints, and a hell of a lot more that the major companies can do with their own vehicles and practices.
Interesting, I believe there is a huge case going on in the USA called the ( right to repair ), and its a similar subject. I think it’s to do with manufacturers of agricultural machinery ( read green and yellow tractors), who don’t want farmers etc fixing their machines, the farmers are forced to go back to the dealership to get stuff fixed. The implications are huge.
The problem arises when no go/charge zones are introduced for engines below Euro 5 - you could easily find oneself with a bike with nowhere to go. I deliberately bought a new Euro 6 motorhome for that reason
I think you will see a booming industry refurbing older model bikes, especially as we get closer to zero emission new bikes. See we got a glimpse of what Triumph think the future is.....
An excellent overview of the up coming Euro 5 regulations and its negative impact on those planning to customise their machines, thank you Stu. The irony being that those of us ‘customisers’ out there will stick with our older bikes; why spend premium prices for new ‘tamper proof’ bikes that give you less pleasure than the older and cheaper one you might already own!? Nonsense...
Well , all I can add to your comments are , I work within the motor trade and I have a lot of dealings with HGV which are now Euro 6 compliant , boy do we get some issues with what should be a reliable new vehicle , we`ve even heard that in some cases the cost of fixing some Euro 6 compliant trucks is so costly and time consuming , fault dependant naturally , that the vehicle ends up scrapped or used as a parts donor for others , not entirely sure on the validity of this as it`s just stuff we`ve heard from fitters who work on certain marks , what I do know is we now get breakdowns and faults that now can`t be resolved at the roadside that require the vehicle to be taken to dealers that we feel in reality should never be .
Just do your thing Uncle Stu, no need to give reasoning for 4 minutes. It is what it is. The majority of us support you and watch your content for the way it is laid out. Thank you for your hard work!
Shame folks won't listen, many of your wisest insights are revealed when you are "off piste" so to speak. We should soon find out the extent of tamper proofing. The newly announced revised Bonneville range is all Euro 5, it surely won't be long before owners try to de-cat them (I understand there are now two cats, Schrodinger saw this coming) and put noisy exhausts on. Come to think of it, has anyone heard the "Great platform for customisation" pitch from Triumph recently?
Regrettably I think you’re correct in your assumptions. I’m not a motor cycle owner watching your channel out of interest but I do own two old classic cars. One of the issues is that the lights on cars 50+ years old is that their lights are not good. One way of improving the lights to make it safer for the driver and other vehicles on the road is to use better lights. I now understand that if I put them through the MOT they will fail. So in order to get around this as they don’t need to have an MOT certificate I’ll avoid this. It’s a shame as they were being put through so I had some confidence that the car I was driving’s roadworthy. But alas the bureaucrats have snookered me again!
I've really enjoyed watching your videos about Royal Enfield bikes. Your info on them pushed me toward buying one here in Oregon USA. Hoping for a Classic like yours. I drive an electric car, but have no problem with a gas bike because of the great fuel economy.
An interesting example of "future proofing" (via recycling) is in the GSXS1000 family from Suzuki. They use a reworked (read: de-tuned) 2005 GSXR1000 motor. What was 130kw became 115kw. 12-13% power loss to give them tuning headroom. Little or no significant re-tooling for the engine hard parts so they could focus on the emissions equipment and electronics. Sort of feels like theft, but from a business perspective it was probably a dead smart approach.
I agree, it looks grim but human ingenuity is not limited to the manufacturers. Thirty years ago, those of us who were riding then, feared the influence of the German TUV regulatory body. The restrictions they imposed on German riders and by extrapolation the rest of us had multiple effects, both in benefits and limitations alike. As vehicles become increasingly sophisticated and to some bewildering, it's easy to throw ones hands in the air and say, well thats it. I'll just have to accept this car, bike, lawnmower as it's been delivered to me. There is a burgeoning body of specialist tuners and aftermarket product developers out there who can circumvent the most fiendish complications that frustrate our desire to modify, improve, de-restrict, whatever you want to call it. From re-mapping ECU's to fooling the vehicles computer into thinking the external conditions are other than what they actually are with devices like booster plugs. I'm optimistic that those that wish to stretch the envelope with their bikes will be able to do so. I'm reminded of the iconic movie Blade Runner and the scene in the night market where Deckard seeks out a specialist to identify the manufacturer of a certain microscopic component. The specialist, who could just as easily be selling wet fish at his stall whips out a microscope and using his expert knowledge delivers his verdict. This cyber punk trope brilliantly presages the age we're moving into, where geeks and entrepreneurs will facilitate for those in the know, fixes and solutions that the legislators seek to prevent us from having.
Worst thing we did was going in the eu the o zone layer has been knakerd for many years now and it aint going to change thankfully were out of it now lets make our own rules for motorcycles keep the videos a coming stuart
Your style is spot on Stuart, don't change bud, and my shed full of old bikes is looking better and better every day, I understand old air cooled, carburetted engines. Keep up the great work mate.
These regs will keep companies like Dynojet in business. I'm sure there will be new generations of Power Commanders, et al, to work around the tech road blocks. Come to think of it, this may help the mechanical health of the engine by forcing people to actually retune their bikes when they change things like exhaust, so the engine will run properly based on their mods. (Coming from someone who has a PCV on an otherwise stock bike.)
Glad I'm not in the market for new bikes. All my five have carbs, none have ecu's and two are two stroke. Oldest bike is '78, newest '03. At 62 years old I think they should see me out.

That is why I wanted MY20 Harley Davidson so bad. I was so worried about Euro5 Harleys to be water cooled, maybe or too restrictive in ECM department. So... I talked to my wife and made a decision to buy my all time dream bike, H-D Road King. It was last year and I’m glad I did that. This is also the last one with hydraulic clutch, which I also wanted due to simpler maintenance and consistency. Very good video, Stu 👍🏻
Great advice. The forthcoming march of so-called "emissions improvements" is about to cross the line in intention from arguably "helpful or efficient" to "intrusive and punitive". Me? I'll just keep thumping around on my air cooled carburetted Bullet until the black vans show up. And do feel free to prattle on about whichever topics you like. It's why I tune in.
EU doesn’t want competition. They will tell everyone what makes them happy and enforce it. Remember the classic song, “Making plans for Nigel”? Wont be long before petrol bikes are just banned period, or will be heavily taxed.....enjoy them while you can...I am...a 26 year old bike....love it......happy riding all.
My mate bought a Ducati Streetfighter recently. He was advised by the salesman to buy the euro 4 model in stock rather than wait for the euro 5 model. This advice was mainly based around then sound of the two stock bikes, with the euro 5 model needing the Akrapovic upgrade to sound decent at £5k fitted. He bought the euro 4 bike.
Stuart, regarding climate change, and health and safety, and government bureaucrats imposing changes my experience is it's the people who have a slight disruption who complain the most without looking at any evidence. These have also affected myself from the introduction of the Safety Helmet Law (I opposed at the time) through Peter Bottomley hell-bent on introducing leg guards and on to today, day-glo etc etc. That said I also believe until viable alternatives are available these issues can't be dealt with in different ways, i.e. I can not believe carbon and toxic gas capture can't be developed for vehicles, power stations etc. I too love a bit of noise pollution, a CBX6 with 6 into 1 on full song, or the thunder of a Laverda 750SF, or the crackle from the spannies on a Kwak H2, I can't understand why the shivers down one's spine isn't loved by everyone, that said who doesn't detest the horrible noise from 2 stroke scooters or 125s with baffles removed especially in the main street. I do think the monies our government spend, and wars we get involved in would be better fought against the unnecessary destroying of the environment purely for monetary gain i.e. destruction of the rain forests and cleaning the messes we are already responsible for i.e. ocean pollution etc. I believe this is an enormous threat to us more than any Russian, or Chinese we keep getting told have it in for us. I often ask myself how it is possible near 200 mph vehicles are still allowed to be road legal and Hayabusa's etc are not fitted with engines removing the ability to exceed legal restrictions (laws). Think of a lean-burn 1000cc Ferrari F8 Spyder 0-60 in 10s and 75mph carried out on all vehicles across the planet it would probably make electric vehicles none viable. The restriction of vehicles whatever the pollution going back to the introduction of silencers will continue. It's a big subject and I have no doubt many will disagree with me (maybe yourself included). Good vis and subject, thanks. Sorry for the long comment.
Morning Stu, Interesting view on the present regs, and future ones for that matter. back in the late seventies I owned a couple of bikes that developed 70/80 bhp, they were light so the power to weight ratio was very good and were on a good day capable of upwards to 130mph.....no euro emission controls then to strangle the engine. Conti pipes and 42mm carburettors...Ah! those were the days...But, motorcycles of that era and before needed constant 'fettling' and maintenance whereas motorcycles are far more reliable today. On the subject of homologation which is the main topic. Here in Spain they, the ITV (MOT) inspectors are obsessive about the machine being original. You can insure the wrath of the mechanic if you've changed the exhaust... especially a full system, a seat cowling, tail tidy etc!, even in extreme cases the 'tyres' I witnessed a guy with a Ducati Monster have his bike fail because of a seat cowl but still retaining pillion footrests..... I hurriedly removed the seat cowl off my Street Triple 675. Like most regs/legislation it creeps up on you so imperceptibly.....
As I was watching I was thinking that anyone including myself, would be better off to purchase a EURO 4 bike and then you summed up yourself the same.... brilliant 😁

You are right Stuart, Big Brother is everywhere, I'm glad that my newest bike is 27 years old. But even old bikes are threatened, the new E10 fuel is not compatible with older, carburetor bikes, after September we will need to use Super Unleaded fuel! They have got us by the short and curlys !
Can I suggest every biker to support MAG (FEMA) they try to fight all those pointless rules for motorcycles and they need our support

I need to commend you on the excellent audio and clear pronunciation. It makes it such a pleasure to watch these videos.
Do you thing,Stu. If anybody doesn't like it, there are lesser channels out there for them! You Rock!
Euro 5 = the very reason I bought a 1983 bike a few months ago... That and the fact I really wanted one. Nice video Mr Fillingham, thanks for all your work and please don't change anything. I subscribed for the ramblings, the stories, etc. I find your videos something to look forward to and relaxing, they are not frenetic but peaceful. Thanks again.
Thanks again Stuart for your straightforward and honest comments.
Your 'style' is a major factor in the long-term success of this channel and has already been commented, please don't change! Thanks for another very informative video and it will be interesting to see how tighter emission regulations impact on smaller capacity bikes.
I appreciate that!
you present every topic, motorcycle, accessory as a movie. It's quality production, *not* what most people are used to with list videos and what not giving instant gratification. thank you for the genuine videos mate, I've just bought my first motorcycle at 18, a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, because of you. Your content was 100% the reason.
Ah well done and congratulations!
I like your style of presenting videos. A gentle lead in to the subject. 👍👍 If viewers want just facts, they should try Wiki.
That’s very interesting. Last week europe called for the right to repair so people will be able to maintain there stuff for at least 10 years. That contradicts possible anti tamper software. Lets see how this plays out
There is some legal battle going on with a right to access the software ane ECUs for repair and maintenance of John Deer tractors in the USA.
Stick to your style ..that's what is endearing about you & been the reason for following you..safe rides ..love from India
Stuart, a recent subscriber and new biker here. I’d like to thank you for your extremely useful and balanced content. It’s delivered with intelligence and style. I’ve learnt a great deal already.
For me , I think that is what I like best , the stories , or abstract tidbits , they tend to draw me in , the gift of gab my friend , is a great thing , thanks , and keep em coming . Cheers .
As Gary said this was all put in place in Europe in 2007. I don't think its actually a race any biker wanted to win.
@@seauryakumar So does that mean that 2020 Interceptors were euro6 please, thank you for this information.
@@mototakahe836 RE 650 twins were developed at a latter stage of Euro 4, it was always designed to be Euro 5 compliant.
Well said Stu agree with all points highlighted
I enjoy your personal ‘procrastination’ as you call it, keep doing what you are doing.
You video flow and pace is excellent. Keep doing what you're doing
Interesting video
We're lucky here in the UK regarding bikes and emissions.

I am going to purchase whatever used motorcycle I can before they all become electric.
And if you want something air cooled, you better hurry. Just like 2 strokes, I believe this decade is the final straw for air cooled engines.
Well. I think I'm kicking my 1951 bike restoration proyect into high gear...
@@-few-fernando11 Hope it will run on E10 petrol!
It's two years on Stuart and you were spot on, I hope its OK refering anyone who has a bike effected by these euro 5 rules onto another Utuber called VFRMitch who posted a video concerning the way around the problem.(if you think it inappropriate I will delete)
Mitch installs a rather complicated piece of kit called "Fuel X Lite"from TECBike Parts which has to be incorperated into the original wiring harness under the tank (without any cutting of wires).
Thanks for a bit more insight as to what's happening
As far as i’m concerned, I like the style of your videos as it figures out your freedom of mind so please keep on!
They should regulate those damn private jets instead.
I have watched several of your videos, have enjoyed each, and wanted to thank you for the information you provide.
Excellent information Stuart, thanks.
Very interesting video this week, something to think about.Your style of presentation is excellent, please continue.
Don't change your style Stu, I really enjoy the relaxed delivery and lack of rush, its a part of what makes your videos enjoyable
Sounds like what John Deere has done with their tractors. Keeping the owner from being able to work on their tractor.
It's all spot on mate. Love it. Thank you...
Ive heard some very similar stories!
You just carry on doing it your way....one of the best channels on TH-cam!
Brilliant, thanks for the information, we should lobby the UK government against Euro 5 etc.
Your vids are great. If your not getting haters your not making an impact. Take it as a back handed compliment.
I enjoy your style and watch even though I don't even own British bikes. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks for the info Stu. Infuriating.
Your style is spot on Stuart, don't change bud, and my shed full of old bikes is looking better and better every day, I understand old air cooled, carburetted engines. Keep up the great work mate.
Well said as always Stuart, "nil illegitimi carborundum"
Excellent video. Thank you.
Well said Stuart, cheers matey.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what you do Stuart, there will always be people who knock everything. Keep up the good work chief.👍
EU doesn’t want competition. They will tell everyone what makes them happy and enforce it. Remember the classic song, “Making plans for Nigel”? My mate bought a Ducati Streetfighter recently. He was advised by the salesman to buy the euro 4 model in stock rather than wait for the euro 5 model. This advice was mainly based around then sound of the two stock bikes, with the euro 5 model needing the Akrapovic upgrade to sound decent at £5k fitted.
He bought the euro 4 bike.
Here, here! I object too to the blumin’ eurocrats dictating to any of us what we do with our bikes. Thanks for the video, Stu!
dont change stuart,we like your individual style.its spot on for me.
I think you raise some interesting comments there!
That's Big brother at his worst eh!

I agree with everything you said. Don't get me started on electric power or the EU.

No radiator on my W800 Street or on the Harley big twin before it, and I like it that way. I'll enjoy it all while I can. I'm glad that Enfields are still air cooled.
A few days ago I unsubscribed from all the 10 a penny you tube Moto vloggers that were begging for views. Uncle Stu made the grade and stayed on my subscribe list. Keep up the good work .👍
How you operate the throttle controls the emissions to an order of magnitude greater than some software manipulation of air fuel ratios at particular point on the fuelling map.
Personally I like a bit of a 'shaggy dog story' at the start of the video. I particularly remember the on where you and your mate went to collect a bike at a former undertakers business and found the, long dead, owner had 'preserved' the bike. Cue lightning flash and clap of thunder! Lol.
Thanks for the information on Euro 5, with which I concur. I'm picking up, at long last, my brand new Interceptor next Thursday. Manufactured last year, thank goodness.
Carry on what you are doing Stuart. Always amazes me that people complain about stuff on tv or youtube or whatever. There is a little thing I like to call the OFF button. This means that you don't have to watch if you don't like it. It really is that simple.
You are right Stuart, Big Brother is everywhere, I'm glad that my newest bike is 27 years old.
But even old bikes are threatened, the new E10 fuel is not compatible with older, carburetor bikes, after September we will need to use Super Unleaded fuel!
